From American Tea Room

This organic black tea was harvested in April 2013. The 2013 First Flush harvest was truly stellar, and our Arya Diamond SFTGFOP1 is perhaps the best example of what makes this origin and flush, as well as this particular harvest, noteworthy. Small, muted tealeaves hold a bold aroma of parmesan-dusted popcorn and a pervasive green scent of springtime. The aroma of the golden yellow brew is sweetly floral (think honeysuckles and gardenias) and accented with green notes of menthol and d’Anjou pears. Clean flavors of eucalyptus, green pear, fresh flowers and dry pine needles evoke springtime, while a syrupy mouthfeel satiates the palate. Pair this rare tea with clean, crisp foods, such as jicima slaw, Waldorf salad or sliced honeydew.

Oh this is an odd duck, and it’s growing on me. I’m really getting the ‘parmesan dusted popcorn’ umami thing now but still with a refreshing quality. It might make a great iced tea. Still probably not a reorder, but I’m happier to keep this ounce in the cabinet, and I’m bumping up the score.

This is really, really strong in flavor… A yellow taste mid-back tongue, very floral rose and pink through the middle of the mouth both tongue and roof of mouth and rolling forward to the tip of the tongue.

Sweet on the very, very tip, too, and just on the inside edges of the lips. There is some blue, like a baby blue, taste inside the mouth against the front bottom teeth.

It pushes a little too far to a perfumey edge in the scent and flavor, so that makes me a bit ambivalent on the tea… But I think the larger list of positives means I like it. But not for an everyday tea… Just once in a while.

Full, round, rolling flavor and texture.

Long, long finish that stays intense.
