Goodmorning Steepsterites, and merry christmas to those of you who celebrate.

This year I got a tea-related present. A set of a mug, a small box of biscuits, a small tin with five teabags of green tea and a tea measuring spoon. I can’t wait until I get home on sunday so I can try it out. (If I can figure out what brand it’s supposed to be)

Anyway, this is a backlog from last night after the present opening was over. Over here in Denmark we are so backwards and impatient that we open our presents on the 24th in the evening. My parents have a sampler pack and one was just picked at random.

Nothing special really. Lipton’s lemony tasting Earl Grey with some jasmine, I think, thrown in. I can’t check, but it tasted like jasmine to me, so that’s what I think it was. Drinkable although somewhat perfumed.

I think a lot of people here are starting to open presents on Christmas Eve, too. We usually do one each, but save the rest for the morning. I think I’d personally feel too deflated if I woke up in the morning without any surprises to be doled out. Color me conditioned.

Ha, so we’re not really backwards, we’re ahead of our time! :D
We have dinner first (traditionally roast duck, goose, turkey or pork roast), then we put the presents under the tree and sing christmas songs while walking several miles around it (we call it ‘dancing’ but it really isn’t) and getting a good look at all the decorations on it and such. After that we unwrap presents, one at a time, and then we have our evening coffee (or tea) and people start to go home. Some people save the dessert for after all the gift unwrapping. Children get all excited for getting their presents in the evening and then they get all frustrated again, because they typically have to wait until the next day to play with most of it, so I suppose you could technically say that we don’t really get anything until the next day. :)

I received some of this loose tea from a lovely friend who swears by this tea as being the best Earl Grey tea available. Now that is a very big claim to stand up to so tonight I shall be the judge.

Colour: Reddy brown
Smell: Sweet jasmine (or if not jasmine then something very similar)

As well as smelling like jasmine it also tastes like jasmine which is a twist on your average Earl Grey. It seems to be jasmine instead of bergamot so it has a floral and slightly bitter taste, almost citrus bitter (similar to lemon rind). I don’t think this is really classed as an Earl Grey under my classifications (due to lack of sweetness) but it is a nice jasmine tea, nice not spectacular.

I will try this again soon and see if my score changes at all but I think overall it’s just an average cup of tea which sometimes is all that I really want.

I don’t… hate this tea, in fact I drink it when I go and visit my mum, so it has a fairly happy association for me. Still, it’s always given me the impression of tasting kind of… fuzzy. If it weren’t for the weird, fuzzy taste, it’d be any other cup of Lipton EG, but with it, it’s a bit like rubbing your lips against peach fuzz. I realise this is a strange association to have with a tea, but it’s true!

Good, but only in very small doses. This is not an every day tea, in my opinion. This is the tea you keep in the back of your cupboard and drink when you’ve run out of nearly everything else.

Persian Earl Grey. 3 words chosen randomly from a dictionary, strung together in seemingly no rhythm nor reason. When I think of Persian I think of a cat roaming around in the sand. When I think of Earl I think of the man who moved into my neighborhood last year, knocking on my door informing me that he is in fact a sexual predator. Grey, an indecisive color. You’re either black or white. Choose one. However, when blended together a sort of harmony arises. Gone with the indecision. Gone with the fear of being sexually assaulted. Gone with the smell of a sweaty cat. Instead, a nice consensual rainbow of sweet aroma arises in an otherwise normal tea mug. When you drink this tea you feel like Cyrpus the Great ruling the once great empire of Persia. you feel like a lion, king of the jungle, shaking the ground with its mighty roar. You feel as though all color has become brighter, clearer, and more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Just kidding. This tea is just ok. 5/10

A classic and one of my go-to’s whenever I’m in the mood for a cup! You can’t go wrong with this Earl Grey.
