From Teavivre

This tea is made of one bud with one leaf from Yunnan tea trees, which after rolling are scented with fresh budding jasmine flowers. Unlike other jasmine-scented teas, this one has a special step in which the flowers themselves are added to the tea following scenting, providing a lovely decoration and adding to the ornamental value of the tea. Because of this, this particular tea is well-suited to brewing in a glass cup: the aroma of the leaves and jasmine flowers flow up from the liquid, the leaves themselves dancing within the cup while the jasmine slowly floats to the surface, and gradually becomes transparent like melting snow.

Wu Yin Yi Ti
After the tea leaves are scented with the budding jasmine flowers, these flowers are sifted out for the process to be repeated another five times, each with new flowers. Following this, the flowers with the strongest fragrance are added to the tea, with the aim of further enhancing the aroma and increasing the tea’s freshness and richness; this process is called “Wu Yin Yi Ti”.

Sipdown! (9 | 9)

So I have this gallon Ziploc bag of Teavivre samples from a previous order, and I figured it was time to start working through them. There’s two samples of each tea, so if I have one every day I’ll get a sipdown every other day. Huzzah!

This is tasty, as their jasmine teas always are. I’m not sure where this one falls in terms of price, but it’s definitely not as delicious as their jasmine pearl teas. The jasmine is nice enough, sweet and lush with a nice hint of creaminess. But I feel like the base tea isn’t giving me much? It’s sort of just slightly grassy and mineral, and there’s some astringency even though I steeped it for just two minutes.

Still a pleasant and relaxing tea this evening, it just doesn’t measure up to a lot of Teavivre’s other jasmine teas that I’ve tried in the past.

I only drink this one with food where the finer stuff doesn’t get as much chance to shine. I am partial to the Premium Jasmine Dragon Pearls, even prefer them to the more expensive downy dragon pearls.

Sipdown (843)…

A calming bit of afternoon tea & a super rare green tea moment all in one. I didn’t think this was the freshest tasting jasmine tea, though to be fair it’s a sample and I can’t honestly recall how long I’ve been sitting on it. Props for being a lot more jasmine forward though, with more of a crisp vegetal finish sort of like eating a bite of really fresh iceberg lettuce. Did get a tiny bit astringent in later steeps though, when the jasmine was beginning to wain. Neither green tea or jasmine are typical tea choices for me, but what’s that thing we’re all saying right now!?

I was having trouble choosing a tea to go with our sesame chicken and lomein tonight so I asked hubby to choose between a plain green and a jasmine. He chose jasmine, I chose THIS jasmine.

This is one of the newer jasmine teas sold by Teavivre and replaces (I think) what used to be their entry kevel jasmine.

It is excellent for just what we used it for – a great accompaniment to a meal. There are lots of jasmine flowers in this. They look rather pretty in the infuser and then swell to a soft white cloud. There is lots of jasmine fragrance and it tastes just as I expect Teavivre jasmine to taste – natural and not soapy or perfumey.

It was great with the food. The briskness is completely unnoticeable while one is eating and it simply seems to clear the palate. After the meal when we were sipping it on its own, the briskness is more noticeable but is not unpleasant. Indeed, it is often considered desirable specifically for its palate cleansing properties.

It was so good, we resteeped and got another nice pot of tea to enjoy.
