Here's Hoping Traveling Teabox Round Five (US only) CLOSED
The box is here, and… oh my word… it’s huge! At least I know what I’ll be doing this weekend. :)
Just a quick update on the box. I’m still trying a few things, but I’ll be sending it out this week. It’s a great box!
Veronica, let me know when you send this so I can put aside 3 hours one night to go through it so it will go to Dr. Jim quickly. If you need my address just shoot me a PM.
LP: Don’t be in a hurry to send it on. The usual procedure is to try all of the teas that look interesting and then take extra of your favorites. The puerh tea box is the only one that limits how much you can take of any given tea.
DrJim: I know, I am just going to bag like 3g of each tea that sounds interesting so I can take a box of samples to work with me :)
That should be acceptable right?
(I generally use 12-20g each day of tea at work depending on the day)

You really could have spent more time with this giant box! And also feel free to finish some teas next time… the weight could probably use some teas being finished. Yowzas. No need to force me on a round six! As long as it keeps going and there are still Steepsterers interested, more rounds will happen. Also, love the puerh frisbee! :D
I tried to encourage him to hold it longer. In the last two weeks, I received a huge W2T order, plus the return of the Sheng and Shou TTB. I need to find a spot to put the S&S TTB so I can sort through this one when it comes. Don’t worry; I’ll take enough time to thoroughly enjoy it.
I also intend to try mostly flavored teas and replace with black and puerh, since I like the variety of flavored teas but buy mostly unflavored.
The box arrived today. It is as ridiculous as everyone says. I’m afraid to start poking around in it.
It came the same day as my Teavivre order, and only about a week after my W2T order and the Sheng and Shou tea box. I have boxes of tea piled all around my study!
The box is packed and ready to go. Hope to mail it tomorrow.

Finally, I used this box to help solve two issues with the Puerh TTB: 1) I’d like to let more people try puerh for the first time but that means they don’t have anything to replace the puerh they take, and 2) There are some teas that have been around the country once or twice because they pu-heads don’t need or want to try them. So, I added several miscellaneous puerh teas into this box in the hope that more people will try puerh. This was above and beyond my replacement weight, since these are “left-overs” from my pruning of the other TTB.
I have just been informed that the teabox now costs about $20 to mail, please let me know if that is a problem for anyone. To everyone remaining: PLEASE keep the teabox longer and feel free to take out slightly more teas than you add, even if that’s just a little bit. Everyone is always adding more than they take. :D
Out of curiosity, how much does it weigh now? $20 by weight and $20 by flat rate (volume)?
I should be OK since I think I’m shipping it within the state, but if it’s by weight Beelicious shipping it from CA to NY would be considerably more I think. Of course if someone has more shipping experience and knows how to ship it cheaply, please advise.
It was 6 lbs, 13 oz. I paid at the post office. Postage will also depend on the distance; this was Boston to Kentucky.
I just went on-line and there is a BIG difference between the on-line price and the post office price. I did this a few years ago, and the difference seemed to be less than 20%, which wasn’t enough to bother with. Now, it looked like about a 40% difference, which is consistent with the difference in price between what Liquid Proust paid and I paid. Live and learn.
Also, for short distances there sometimes isn’t much difference in time between the priority mail and regular parcel post.
40% what?! Why would it be such a difference?
Anyway, depending on what it looks like when it gets here, I might have to split the box into two boxes. Not sure how to do that yet. Maybe there will be a mirror list for both boxes, where Person 1 on one list is the last person on the other list, but then it becomes a problem for the middle people on the lists, also a little confusing to have two boxes.. and it would probably be MORE than $20 if you add the price of shipping for both boxes together. I don’t know.
When the box gets back to you, try sorting through it looking for stuff that is really old or not so desirable. One candidate: I didn’t even open the baggie for the tea bags (several ounces). There’s probably some other stuff like that. I keep track of the sheng and shou TTB and remove most of the stuff that was in the box the last time it went around (exception for stuff I think is really good).
If the tea bags are sealed (original packaging) you could try giving them to a local food donation center. This is problematic for open loose teas, but they might take sealed tea bags?
I definitely weed out the teabox each time it comes back. If I see something from the last round, it depends on what it is if it gets removed from the box. But if I’ve seen it in more than one round, it definitely gets removed. Don’t ask me how I remember, but I do. :D
