Puerh Beginners TTB On its Way!

The box is nearly ready to go. I hope to ship early next week. Here is the list of the participants(in order):
Blodeuyn KY
Equusfell  OH
Just John MO
mtchyg  MI
Flyawaybirdie CA (dropped out on 3/29)
Michelle TX
Brian  GA
rosebudmelissa  MD
Haveteawilltravel NY
KiwiDelight NY
Dr Jim MA

The rules are similar to previous TTBs, except for #1, which is important. The thinking behind rule #1 is to ensure that a reasonable amount of puerh lasts for the entire box.

1. Take as much of each tea as you want with the following restrictions:
A. Up to 40 grams of puerh can be replaced with non-puerh tea.
B. Any amount of puerh can be replaced with equal quantity of puerh
C. Any amount of non-puerh can be replaced with equal weight of non-puerh (so it is OK to swap green for black, etc. without limit)
D. Any quantity of non-puerh can be replaced by an equal weight of puerh.
2. NO FLAVORED TEAS
3. Replace what you take in equal quantities by weight. Please try to add where you bought the tea. Don’t put more than about 1 oz of any one tea in the box. You don’t need a lot of variety; we get that by having a lot of people on the list. Adding only one or 2 teas is OK as long as the weight is the same. Try to maintain the quality level as well.
4. Please post your additions plus any teas that you finished off to this topic, so others can track the contents.
5. Try to send the box on to the next person within a week to ten days. PM them for their address when you receive the box.
6. When you receive the box: PM the next person on the list to ensure they are ready. You can get their address in advance, but please don’t skip this step. Boxes have gone missing due to summer vacation, moves, etc.
7. Please follow everyone on the list. It will make it easier to coordinate changes.
8. Try to wrap the teas well. There’s been a lot of discussion about packing for TTBs elsewhere on Steepster, and the consensus is that thin baggies don’t seal well enough. Heavier gauge ziplock seems okay but the consensus is that foil is best. I have added a second layer of packaging to separate shou from sheng plus small packages for smokey sheng. Also use separate bags for black and green/oolong
9. Mail via 2nd-day mail and get a tracking number. In general, a single-rate box is NOT the best option. However, for trips of more than about 700 miles, it might be. Please replace the box if it’s getting beaten up.
10. When you mail the box, PM me and the person you are sending it to with the tracking number. Also post to the thread the fact that the box has been mailed, along with a list of what you’ve added and what you tried. Mention if you took the last sample.

Sorry for all the small print. I will post again when I send out the box.
Dr. Jim

I’m very interested! No real suggestions, the rules seem more than reasonable.

DR Jim I have some Dayi shou I can contribute to the box. Let me know if you need a bit of inventory to make it possible.

Dr Jim said

mrmopar: Thanks. Let me see how much shou is in the returning box. I think I’ll want to take you up on your offer, assuming there is enough interest to make it go.

Will do.

Depending on the time frame, I might be donating material toward this.
For now, my comment is this: Highly suggest being picky about who you allow in on this as there is a risk of ‘something’ happening.

I can donate if needed. I’d love to lighten my load of puerh and pick up some hidden gems of oolong/green/etc. from other people :)

Maybe I can put you in the middle of the list? I plan to start the box as 100% puerh and let the other parts grow. You can re-invigorate the puerh selection.

sounds great! I really like this idea

Which TTB was it last year that just “got lost”?

Here’s one that I was involved in:
http://steepster.com/discuss/5742-closed-travelling-tea-box-c-round-2?page=12

A more common occurrence is what is happening in the sheng Olympiad: People sign up and then a month later they’ve disappeared from Steepster. This is why I usually look for long-term participation.

I’m interested. Still very new to Puerh and have a teeny tiny stash. Lots of other tea I can add/swap tho! I’d suggest enforcement of making sure there are steeping guidelines for each Puerh, for those of us who need all the help we can get.

I am interested. I am a pretty low risk/safe bet on not dropping out. I’m addicted to both tea and Steepster. I have a small stash of puerh (a little loose, a couple cakes) to add/contribute/trade and a lot of other types of tea to throw in as well. I’ve never done a TTB so I’d need to know all the details and whatnot about how it works.

I would love to be a part of this if you would take me. I have tried a lot of puerh but am just now starting to seriously delve into/collect it. I would probably stock up on a few of my favorite teas to include when it became my turn.

I’d be interested, but I have a baby coming in mid-April and won’t be drinking much caffeinated tea until then. I may not be on Steepster much in late April or early May (newborns keep you busy!). So if I can be near the end of the list, I’d join this round. If not, I’ll wait till the next round.
