Best Places for a Tea Experience? Tea Parties, Afternoon Tea, etc.

My boys know how much I enjoy the themed tea parties hosted by a local shop so they spoiled me for Christmas with tickets to a couple of the 2010 teas. I’m already getting anxious to go to “Tea with Jane Austen” and “A Celtic Tea Celebration” at the Bohnet House.

We touched on this a little with the tea tours post but I’d like to know about other tea experiences. I always check the local area on Yelp when I travel but it seems like this would be a good discussion topic for our group here. How about the rest of you? Any great recommendations.

(This is located in Liberty, Missouri. Thanks to denisend. Good idea to add locations to our posts)

I like our local tea shop – Royal Tea Room. It’s Victorian themed and they serve Harney and Sons (both sachet and loose). They don’t have a web page, but you can see their info and read reviews on teamap.

OMG I love that place! I had my bridal shower there. It’s one of the places I miss most in Southern MD. Great food, tea, and atmosphere. Luckily my sister-in-law fell for it too b/c of my shower and now takes my nieces there for special mother/daughter days. :)

I’ve been to Johanna May’s Fine Teas once, just for lunch- not for formal tea or anything, but the food was really good as well as (of course). That’s actually where I fell in love w/ cucumber iced tea.

I just read a great review of the afternoon tea at the Ritz-Carlton in Tyson’s Corner, VA on The Tea Scoop blog: http://theteascoop.typepad.com/the_tea_scoop/2009/12/puttin-on-the-ritz.html so now that’s on my list of tea experiences I want to try one day. I imagine that many Ritz properties host tea? Unfortunately the one closest to me (Charlotte NC) does not seem to.

Kavarna Cafe in Green Bay, WI (www.kavarna.com) has a fairly limited selection of water, but they have rose water lemonade that makes a great unsweetend green tea Arnold Palmer, great vegetiarian/vegan food (they are completely vegetarian), and they make an AMAZING bowl of Rishi matcha- that’s where I had my 1st experience.

Everyone talks about Samovar’s teas, but has anyone ever been to their lounge in San Francisco?

I was taken to Samovar in San Francisco last summer when I was down visiting friends & my girlfriend. It was expensive but it was also a fabulous experience. Wonderful tea, amazing food, and a lovely wide variety of both.

This sounds great – Mad Hatter’s Afternoon tea (it’s in London at a 5-star hotel):

I would say that there are 4 places in nyc that come to mind! (not in order of goodness as they all have their own benefits)

1) Alice’s tea cup: cute with an extensive tea list and amazing amazing to die for scones
2) Russian tea house: a little expensive but truly worth it. right next to carnegie hall and old school tea sipping at its best (european old school that is)
3) Sanctuary T: a chill and summery yet same time cozy place tucked away at the cusp of soho and chinatown
4) radiance: amazing tea and ambiance!

if you are in nyc hopefully this will help!
