San Lin Xi Oolong (Charcoal Roast)

Oolong Tea by Asha Tea House

A rich, complex dark roast. Hints of cacao nibs and maple syrup sweetness are balanced by slight acidity and tannins.
Charcoal Roast rounds out our line of San Lin Xi’s. Last year our partner Mr. Zhong won the prestigious first prize at the Lugu Tea Competition, for traditional dark roast “Dong Ding” style Oolong. We tasted his award winning tea and knew that we had to bring back that heavenly, smoky and rich flavor. Thankfully we were able to do it without the $3,000 a pound price tag!

The last of my San Lin Xi Oolong ends with this. It is a nice finish to a great tea. Seeing how a tea can change in the roasting process is a rare thing, from start to finish. Smooth and sweet. Not fruity like I thought it would be. The sweetness carries through nicely. A great tea.

This tea is a little of the flavored side for me, but I see it pairing very well with a smoked fish or any Asian protein dish with oyster sauce. An interesting tea for sure, but not my cuppa.
