Chocolate Chai

Chai Herbal Blend by California Tea House

Hot, spicy chocolate… need we say more? Here’s the more: cocoa kernels, natural cinnamon sticks, chicory root pieces, cardamom blooms, fresh-cut ginger root, cloves, pink peppers, and coconut preserves. Perfect with milk and sugar.

This chai smells so wonderful! I love that it’s an herbal chai so you can drink it anytime day or night, and of course I’m a fan of cocoa nibs.

At first sip, I get a rush of chocolate that mellows into a very nice, (not too strong), spicy flavor. The finish has a punch of cardamom to it that lingers in your mouth.

I quite like this tea. Unfortunately, after I had my first cup and I visited the CTH website for more information, and I found that white chocolate pieces had been added to the ingredient list for this tea. D’oh, white chocolate often has a dairy component and I can’t have the dairy in my teas. I’ve emailed CTH in the hopes that the white chocolate they use is non-dairy which isn’t common but does exist. I really hope I can have this tea again because it’s delish.

Update: I heard back from CTH and the white chocolate pieces that they have recently added to this blend ARE VEGAN!!!! \o/

When I smelled this tea I was worried that it would be a bit too much spice.
Drinking it is a nice smooth flavor. I am very happy with the taste. Little bit of sweet, little bit of spice. I was expecting more chocolate because I sensed it in the smell… but not too much chocolate here. Overall, a nice smooth cup that reminds me of Christmas!
Thank you so much, Lori!

This was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS and one of the better or perhaps best chocolate teas ever. And it is a herbal – so/w some milk and sugar this is a perfect dessert. Spicy and not too spicy. Compared to Teavanna’s Haute Chocolate, this is more “chocolate-y” w/just enough spice. A very well-rounded flavor.

After trying my first California Tea House order, I am looking forward to trying more of their blends…..

This is my favorite nite-time chai. No rooibos to dilute the flavor. Just a blend of whole spices so this is high quality. And tastes like chocolate….This is not hot spicy just a well-rounded chai flavor.

This drink is my favorite before bedtime drink. Mildly spicy but tempered by the chocolate. Perfect with milk. Decaffeinated but no rooibos. Richly flavored compared to other night-time decaf chocolate-y, spicy teas.

Had this one again this evening. First cup w/chocolate milk. And you know what? It was almost bitter from have too strong of a cocoa flavor. Second cup w/skim milk and I am sure I could taste the chocolate….Such a good herbal blend…

Hmmm- had this last night w/milk and sugar- a perfect late nite treat..

I had this tea chilled (on ice) for the first time and it’s actually really good that way. I always loved it hot, but I wanted it outside and chilled chocolate can really hit the spot I found out!

I was very excited to try this, so I was very disappointed at first sip. I find this tea, when plain, completely undrinkable. Adding some sugar helped a bit, but there is still too much of something (I think maybe cardamom?). Adding milk really tempered the punch and now it’s actually quite nice! It’s not the most chocolatey tea I’ve ever had, but it is a nice chai, overall. I look forward to trying this iced, too.
