This is my first experience with matcha besides genmaicha/matcha blends. I read the directions and saw that it recommended a half teaspoon and I promptly ignored that and dumped a hefty teaspoon into my mug. That was stupid. The matcha has sifted to the bottom and I’ve been adding more and more hot water to my mug so its kinda like I’m imitating multiples steepings. I know a whisk is usually used as well as a sifter so I might think of getting those. The tea itself is quite nice despite my mistakes, its vegetal and sweet and just tastes healthy. It reminds me of the tea version of naked green machine juice but a lot less sweet.

Tried this brand for the first time today.
It smells like grass (not grassy tones but straight up GRASS and only grass)
Tastes like matcha….I like matcha so it works. Not the smoothest I’ve had but I can’t complain. Oddly enough I get a strong citrus note halfway through a sip…it stays for about a second then dissipates (not in the aftertaste). I think I like that though it’s a bit odd…

I just received three different matchas from Got Matcha as part of a deal they were offering through Kijiji. This is the first one I’ve opened and tried. I think I’m going to try it a couple more times before rating it, but I like it more than Matcha Kaze from Den’s Tea (my only other matcha experience so far).

The powder is a light green, which I’m told is a good thing (less oxidation). It froths up much easier than the Matcha Kaze, and it seems to have a brighter, crisper flavour. It’s also sweeter—more what I imagined a matcha would be like from descriptions I’d read. The powder is quite clumpy, though, so sifting is a must. I’m also liking two chashaku scoops better than one in approximately 3 to 4 ounces of water.

I’ve been having some issues with a bit of bitterness the last couple of times I’ve prepared this matcha, which is really weird because I’ve been doing everything exactly the same. When I figure out the issue, I’ll post an update.

By the way, I got a nice tea thermometer for Christmas, so now I can get more accurate temperatures. I thought I had been steeping this at about 180 F, but it turns out it’s more like 170 or 165. So much for Den’s Tea’s method of cooling in 20-degree increments by pouring the water into a cup before adding it to the tea in the bowl I use for matcha. Maybe I need thinner cups or something.

I’ve determined that 160 F is the best temperature for this tea. I like a lot of froth, and it seems to froth best at this temperature. Good stuff! :D

I’ve finally rated this tea. I love it thick and extra frothy. As I mentioned in my previous note, it’s a little clumpy, though, like there’s a bit too much moisture in it. That’s my only qualm, and I’ll likely reorder when I’m done the package, which will probably be fairly soon at the rate I’m going through it. I’m finding I’m craving matcha now.
