DavidsTEA Matcha Advent Calendar 2020 – Day 20

Morning matcha earlier today – this one smelled yummy right out of the package! Very fresh mango scent! I pictured mango and matcha going well together, so was looking forward to it.

Prepared in the usual method, 175 degree water, whisk, top up with hot water, drink. It lived up to my expectations :) very tropical, sunny matcha flavor pairing nicely with the faint grassiness of the matcha. The little bit of bitterness from the matcha also fit right in here, as it was like eating the piece of mango near the pit! Very natural tasting, not too much artificial sweetness, very enjoyable!

2020 Advent Calendar from The Tea Girl – Day 19

So I am ACTUALLY drinking this tea today, right this moment, as I missed having it within my caffeine window yesterday. I was so pumped up by the DECADENT chocolate smell, I have been looking forward to it!

Now, I always get a bit nervous when there is pu-erh in tea blends. I like good quality pu-erh on it’s own, but in blends it can get a bit fishy. So I did approach this a bit more cautiously when I saw the ingredients. I steeped for 2 and a half mins with boiling water, and wow it still smells very chocolatey!

As for the flavor, wow. This is awesome. I am not normally a huge fan of chocolate teas, as they always have a weird artificial note for me, but I don’t know if it’s the base teas or the flavoring used, this is SO GOOD. The Yunnan base is very present with that sweet potato and sugary aftertaste, and the chocolate flavoring just melds right in there. It’s like eating a dark chocolate with some sugar. This is tasty and totally satisfying my sweet tooth!! Very impressed! One of the best chocolate teas I’ve had in a long time (that is straight chocolate, not mint chocolate, etc.)

DavidsTEA Matcha Advent Calendar 2020 – Day 19

Backlog from yesterday – so I’m in a tea chat with some tea people on Instagram for this Advent calendar, and everyone has been hyping this one up soo much, so when I saw it come up I was like YAY!! I get to try this floral bombshell!

Well, for me, it did not disappoint! I do enjoy floral teas, and this one has that sweetness that DT puts in their cherry blossom teas that makes it perfection!! I loved their cherry blossom tea from a while back (which of course is not available anymore sadface), and this brought me back to that one! Sweet, floral, and delicious! This was another I did not want to finish my cup of as it was SO GOOD I WANTED IT TO LAST FOREVER! I also see it’s no longer available on the website :( ah well at least I have 1-2 cups left!!

Prepared the usual way, 175 degree water, whisk, top up with hot water, enjoy. Yummy and good Saturday morning treat!

You’d think shops would treat advents as samples which then people would want to visit the website and order the teas. So they would try extra hard to keep the advent teas in stock. I guess not. haha.

mrs.stenhouse12

@tea-sipper, that would definitely be a smart idea on their part! Maybe one day that will happen :)

2020 Advent Calendar from The Tea Girl – Day 18

Backlog from last Friday – so after my disaster of a morning matcha, I was excited to have this tea in the evening before bed as a sweet maple treat and to redeem my poor tea day lol. Brewing, this smelled SOO MAPLEY and YUM. I steeped for 5 minutes as per the recommendation, although my usual steeping time for rooibos is 4 minutes.

So for flavor – this was good, but it wasn’t quite hitting the mark for me, and I honestly think it’s just the wrong season for it. This was super maple, super woody, super NUTTY (like nut aftertaste that freaked me out, cuz I know there are no nuts in here), and overall quite cozy…but much better suited for autumn. I am going to make my next cup as an almond milk latte with some maple syrup I think, as that is what this tea needs – I almost found it too autumny and sweet and powerfully nutty on its own, it needs some milk to keep up with it! Tasty, but just not the right mindset for me haha! Might order a bit more next fall when I’m craving those flavors!

DavidsTEA Matcha Advent Calendar 2020 – Day 18

Backlog from this past Friday – um, so I don’t know what happened with this tea when I made it, but I do need to make it again because the first cup was disastrous LOL. It smelled funky when I opened it, honestly…like cat food? LOL. So I was like ok…..let’s try making it. So I made it in my usual way, 175 degree water, whisk, top up with hot, drink. It did not froth at all, but since it’s a coconut nectar matcha, I’m not surprised lol. But what the heck, still smelled wayyy off. So tried a sip, BLECH. Also tasted off HAHAHA. So not sure what was going on or if my taste buds were having a moment, but this got dumped. I do want to try it again, in case it was just me….but this one and I did not have a good start lol.

Will try again another day, but for now definitely not a favorite haha.

2020 Advent Calendar from The Tea Girl – Day 17

Backlog from last week – Day 17! Another sparkly tea from The Tea Girl! This one was soo pretty. I still get a bit nervous about ingesting the sparkles though haha! As for flavor, the first hit of this was hard on my stomach, although I think it was from work stress and not eating enough during the day than from the sparkles lol. I found the green tea a touch astringent in the first sips, then it mellowed out as the tea cooled and also was easier on my system. The flavor reminds me of that peppermint coconut tea DT used to have that I LOVED, it was a seasonal haha! I think ultimately I would prefer this tea with a herbal pure mint base, rather than green tea, but it was good anyways! And pretty teas always brighten my day :)

DavidsTEA Matcha Advent Calendar 2020 – Day 17

This I ate as a snack last Thursday, as it was the Peach Matcha infused milk chocolate in the tea advent calendar! It was okay…I concur with most other reviews and was hoping for it with a white chocolate for more peaches and cream flavor, but it was ok. I think I might have liked it better as a chocolate as it wasn’t as sweet as the matcha alone haha if you can believe that!! At least that’s my opinion :D I think it’s safe to say the peach matcha just isn’t really my cup of tea overall, but still fun to try!

2020 Advent Calendar from The Tea Girl – Day 16

Backlog from Wednesday – so I am a huge popcorn fan. Like, I eat at least 2-3 bowls per week, and recently discovered stove top popcorn when my air popper died, and I LOVE IT! It’s one of my favorite snacks, so naturally, when I saw this tea, I was excited! Yay for popcorn tasting tea!!

I will admit, I didn’t pay as much attention to this tea as I should have, as I had it while in a work meeting, but it was quite tasty from what I recall. Lightly sweet, definite corn notes, a hint of butter…want to try it again to see if I pick up more of it, but it was pleasant and went down quite quickly! It also didn’t make my stomach cranky, which is awesome as sometimes oolongs can really mess it up! Tasty and will gladly finish my sample!

Courtney

We’ve made popcorn on the stove for years and it’s so good! We just learned how to make caramel corn on the stove (and oven), woot!

Cameron B.

We just microwave ours in a silicon bowl.

mrs.stenhouse12

@Courtney – yay for stove top popcorn! I think it’s the oil infused with the salt that makes it AMAZING! Mmmm the caramel corn sounds good I may have to try that next, although I have much more of a salt tooth than a sweet tooth!

@Cameron B. – that works too! Anything to pop the popcorn is good for me :D I’m such a popcorn addict haha.

DavidsTEA Matcha Advent Calendar 2020 – Day 16

ANOTHER major backlog incoming…this past week at work was nuts, so did not get a chance to log my teas. Now I am off for 2 weeks, so going to catch up until today! Yay!

So this matcha – I had it back on Dec. 16, and I was excited to see it! The Wild Honey matcha the day before did not do much for me, but one whiff of this and I was sold. I love lavender teas, so calming, and the idea of a lavender, caffeine filled tea made me intrigued. And boy was it good!! I would LOVE to order more of this one, but looks like that may be tough! Very well balanced, the honey was way more natural and the lavender perfect. I did not want to finish my cup I wanted to savor it forever!! So good!

Prepared the usual way – 175 degree water, whisk, top up with hot water, enjoy. YUM!

Courtney

Yay for being off for two weeks!

mrs.stenhouse12

@Courtney – I am so ready for it! Sleep is very much in order :)

2020 Advent Calendar from The Tea Girl – Day 15

Backlog from Tuesday evening – this was a tea I enjoyed, it was very cinnamon-y with a nice apple pastry kind of flavor. My husband kind of ruined it for me lol, he said it smelled like an air freshener! I see the parallel a bit, in that there are lots of apple cinnamon air fresheners…maybe the woody rooibos added to that comparison for him? Haha I don’t know – I found it hydrating and cozy and tasty, so will definitely finish my sample! May not be a reorder since hubby finds not his “cup of tea” lol.

Profile

Bio

Hello all, I am an electrical engineer (read:NERD :D), who is a bit obsessed with tea! I discovered loose tea in 2011, DAVIDsTEA in 2012 and it took off from there. I really started drinking/enjoying tea because it was excellent to take to class in the morning and because I can’t handle coffee! (unless it’s a really good cappuccino or latte, or decent decaf haha)

I enjoy a variety of teas – current favorites being ripe and raw pu’erhs, chinese black teas and herbal/green rooibos blends. I also enjoy white, green, and oolong teas, although I tend to drink them more in the warmer months. I have also tried matcha and guayusa, but I don’t drink them too often as I am a bit sensitive to caffeine. As a result I don’t drink black teas as often as I used to, but in moderation I can still enjoy a wide variety of teas.

Oh, and I have a severe peanut allergy and try to avoid most other nuts, just to be safe. Limits my tea choices a bit, but that’s ok. However I have tried almonds and found out I can eat them, so I have been trying a few teas with them in them.
