From Teaopia

Genmaicha is the Japanese name for Green Tea and is also commonly referred to as the popcorn tea. Sencha is mixed with wholemeal rice, which has been fire roasted where it often ‘pops’ not unlike popcorn which is how it received its alternate name. Genmaicha has a sweet, nutty and a slight popcorn flavour which is known to aid in digestion. Due to the fact that it is naturally low in caffeine, this light Green Tea can be consumed at night without the risk of disturbing sleep.

The first tea that hasn’t made me puke since I came down with Norwalk.

…Yay?

Seriously. I essentially got the weekend off, and I COULDN’T DRINK TEA.

I ran out of this tea and went back to Teaopia for more, but this batch doesn’t seem as good. It’s almost like it’s a bit old and has lost flavour, but I know my local Teaopia restocks frequently. It’s better if I use about double the leaf that I normally use, but then it’s too much caffeine for me. (Nothing worse than loving tea and being caffeine sensitive!) I’m rethinking buying it again after it’s gone. It might be time to order from Den’s Tea again instead.

This tea is amazing! Especially if a plain sencha is a bit too strong for you. The popped rice makes the flavour very smooth.

One of my favourite teas. I love the smoky flavour.
