New Tasting Notes
Trying this without milk to see if that’s what’s killed the taste the last two times I attempted to take it to work in my travel tumbler. And it is, some. The nutty taste is warmer and has more depth but it’s still pretty thin. I remember my first two cups being much better than this has been treating me now. Boo.
Preparation
I can’t honestly say that I enjoyed this very much. The sweetness that I was expecting wasn’t there, and it tasted a bit too vegetal for my liking. I tasted way more of the white tea than the tangerine, which I hardly tasted at all. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing (especially if you like white tea like I do), but if you’re wanting a tangerine white, than I wouldn’t recommend this. On the bright side though, it doesn’t have any aftertaste because it is such a light tea.
Even though I only steeped it for just over 2 minutes, my mouth was left feeling curiously (and annoyingly) dry. I can’t think of why that would be, since I didn’t oversteep.
This is another one that I’d be willing to trade or give away if nobody takes me up on the offer.
Backlogging.
I’ve been wearing perfumes featuring quite prominent vanilla notes lately. (Reviewing perfumes is not unlike reviewing teas, weirdly enough, though I still find it easier to write multiple paragraphs about tea. ;-) The best of these makes me want to drink something with that same quality of lovely, smooth vanilla, which led me to finally trying out this tea.
sigh What a let-down. I’ve never yet found a vanilla-flavoured tea that remotely touches the places that I want it to go – a place that the perfumes seem to find with ease – and this one is probably the most disappointing of all. I really expected this to at least smell something like vanilla even if the taste wasn’t there. Nup. The vanilla was barely present in either the taste or the aroma.
The tea used for the base was a very uninspiring, second-rate green: one of those teas that you wish was overpowered by the flavouring so that you don’t have to endure the taste of the tea itself.
I’m beginning to think that the sort of vanilla tea I want just doesn’t exist. I really hope I’m wrong, because I still have a bunch of vanilla-based perfume samples to get through and they keep making my mouth water!

re: reviewing perfumes
I used to review BPAL perfumes on the company’s forum and always found it difficult to go more than a few sentences. :-p Tea’s definitely easier to write about!
I like the Vanilla flavor that Lupicia does – like french vanilla ice cream <3 What sort of vanilla flavor are you looking for?
My usual issue with vanilla teas is that they just don’t taste vanilla enough. A vanilla note in a perfume permeates the whole thing, but a vanilla note in a tea usually gets lost. I went through a period of trying various vanilla teas, but this is the first I’ve had in quite a while. I haven’t tried Lupicia’s Vanilla, but, knowing them, they’d probably get the flavour balance right if anyone can. Thanks for the suggestion – I will check it out!
Maybe you should drink your perfume instead, haha!
Most vanilla teas are sickening, with plenty of artificial vanilla flavor in them.
Vanilla needs sugar to work on the palate, maybe you should try that.
Was in the mood for something Japanese tonight, and this was sitting there still unopened, so… I got out my kyusu and got to it.
This is really a pretty good sencha. The first steeping is delicate, and the colour is closer to eau de nil than I usually expect even with a Japanese green. The packet’s claim that it tastes like sweet potato is… hmmn, fanciful is probably the kindest way of putting it. But it is sweet, and, of course vegetal/grassy.
I left the second steeping a fraction longer, for just over a minute, and allowed a little astringency to creep in, just to add a little more depth to the flavour.
Yeah, really not bad. I’ll be having this one again.
Preparation
The smell of this one, both of the leaves and tea itself is heavenly. Beats all the other ones like 10 times…
Hope it tastes good too. First black tea i’m trying. I’m doing the second steep while waiting for the first one to chill.
Color of the tea is closest to rooibos i guess. Bit lighter and maybe slightly less red. Its not 100% clear.
Smells mostly like vanilla and strawberry.
Second steep didn’t get quite as dark. I will see later if it picked up all the flavors of the first one. But in general i don’t mind when it doesn’t taste the same. It can still taste good even if its different.
The tea is way milder than id expect it for a black tea. But i like that. Been saving black teas for last with a reason. Not sure if my cold has influence on my tasting. Have that in mind…
Tastes like it smells – vanilla and strawberry. It has only a bit of black tea sourness instead of sweetness behind it. But its not strong at all. Not sure id guess its black tea by the taste. Color + taste maybe.
Anyways it smells very good and tastes quite good too. Gonna put some honey in. Pretty sure that will make it perfect for me.
Yep tried that and it makes it a really really yummy fruit flavored tea. Good rating.
Preparation
I wasn’t sure if I’d like this tea because ginger and lemon can both be very strong flavors and sometimes I just can’t handle them. This one is mellow with that nice zing that ginger adds to the back of your throat. It has just enough flavor for me to wake me up but doesn’t get to be too much halfway through the cup. I used really hot water on this because I thought it was black tea (woops). Didn’t seem to hurt it much though. Yummy!
Preparation
brewed for 8 min. Smells like banana with a hint of chocolate. The taste is not as strong as the scent. The rooibos does not completely overpower the choc/banana, but it is definitely there – I know I’m drinking rooibos. Overall I like these flavors, so I prefer it to plain rooibos.
It’s a good solid quality enjoyable offering from 52teas, but it didn’t make me go “wow!” For my tastes, their pina colada honeybush is much better, and the malted chocomate is more impressive.
Preparation
I was definitely in the mood for a black tea this morning, so I thought I’d give this one a go!
Like others have said before, it really does taste like cookies! But it also still tastes like black tea. :P I really like it!!
It does have a little bit of bitterness to it, and I think next time I’ll try steeping for less time. But it’s not too much, and it adds a bit of an interesting kick.
It’s the perfect tea for this morning! :)
Preparation
Nice light Earl Grey. The leaves smell absolutely wonderful, brews up to a nice deep amber. The taste is light, I usually prefer a “harsher” Earl Grey in the morning, but as an anytime tea this is quite good. Might benefit from a longer steep time, may try that next.
Preparation
Very nice tea. I tasted it straight before I “doctored it up”. There was no trace of bitterness, just a little touch of a malty flavor on the middle of my tongues. A very mild tea, it still stood up well to vanilla coffee creamer (I’m out of soy creamer right not) and some sweetener. IMO this is a good staple tea, and I really wish my grocery store had it on the shelves!! I picked up a tin at the tea shop in EPCOT yesterday, since we were there for a day of fun, and I know that I like the bagged version of this tea.
I would like to say I enjoyed this cup of tea, but I never got a chance. I made the tea and set it on my table to slightly cool while I took dinner out of the oven. My cat thought this would be a good time to knock the entire mug onto the carpet. sigh I love this tea and I will just have to make more.
Up at 1am! This schedule thing is not correcting itself, but…
This is still a good morning. I’m jamming out to Passion Pit, I’ve got an idea for a book, and a pre-‘breakfast’ cup of this that seems to have turned into something slightly sweeter on the tip of the tongue than I expected, but not so sweet that it’s the coconut pouchong, which sounded like a bit too much…more a nutty sweet that seems just right for whetting the appetite and helping me feel better disposed toward the idea of cooking eggs and bacon after all.
PS: I don’t think my cats like the Passion Pit. They do not seem to like it when I dance in the kitchen. They especially do not like it when I pick them up to dance with me. Oh well. At least one of us is having a good morning!
