Day 64 of my 101 days of DAVIDsTEA challenge. Catching up on the backlog!

I had this as a cuppa in-store.

This… tasted far too much like coffee for me. I don’t mind having coffee in my tea — look at coffee pu’erh. I actually rather liked that, because it balanced the coffee in chocolate. However, this tasted more like a slightly watered down cup of coffee, which, as someone who really doesn’t like coffee as a beverage… didn’t really make me enjoy it at all.

Coffee lovers may enjoy this tea, but those of us who enjoy tea but not coffee? Well… perhaps this is one to pass on.

The scent of this tea is woodsy, in a smokey campfire kind of way. I expected the coffee and maybe the almonds to be stronger, but the whole roots and bark thing comes off very strong instead. The mate and coffee perked me up a bit, but not enough to get me to jumping monkey status – just a little more energy. It’s not a substitute for your morning cup of joe if that’s what you need to get started. Taste-wise, the woodsy base complements the almonds and mate quite well. It’s a pretty good balance of flavors, but not necessarily something I’ll crave or reach for. I can’t taste the coffee at all, but I can smell it in the tea leaves, so I assume it’s in there. Definitely steep this one the full 4-5 minutes, otherwise you’ll end up with weak, watery tea. Works for a second steep, but you’ll need 5-7 minutes.

This coffee loather couldn’t get past four large sips. That was the majority of the flavour, with hints of underlying things to try and mask the burnt taste. Definitely not the mate for me.

verdict is still out on this one- i think i got a stale batch, after reading other posts on this tea, and the rating-i’m going to hold off my rating.

Not bad, just blah, less flavorful than plain maté. Even after crushing the coffee beans, with a long brew. I tasted none of the interesting flavors advertised, just what I imagine straw would taste like. DAVIDs sure is lucky they hit the other teas I got with my first order out of the park (Razzmatazz, Saigon Chai, and Glitter & Gold) because this one is a loser.

I tried this tea quite a while ago in store…If i would have known that there were coffee beans in it, I never would have tried it. I dont drink coffee and dont really want to be drinking it in my tea…thats why I drink tea :p. I definetely wont have it again nor will I be purchasing any.

I had my reserves about this one… Mostly due to the coffee beans in it. Coffee? In my tea? Well, if I was going to jitter even the slightest then out of my pot it would go!

Thankfully, none of that happened. I had this in the morning as it had caffeine and I was very surprised that I did not hate it. It tasted very smooth, like velvet, and it wasn’t so overpowering with coffee that I had to spit it out. I actually would consider a tin of it to have on my shelf… It will do very well on nights!

I am not very keen on the overall scent of this tisane once it has been infused- it reminds me of the scent of an empty coffee filter. I do like the smell of the cloves peeking out ever so slightly, but it would be nice if they were more prevalent. There seems to be a lot of ingredients in this one. I have never enjoyed white chocolate and the one used in this combination contains an artificial colour which, to me, is not necessary. It is possible that this would affect the flavour along with some of the other white chocolate ingredients: partially hydrogenated palm kernel oil, soy lecithin and monoglycerides. The resulting flavour is that of a diluted coffee.
This tisane is nice with the addition of 2% cow’s milk. I like that it takes on a creamy texture and looses the dilute flavour. The clove taste seems to be brought out a bit more and mixes nicely with the milk flavour.

I’m not a coffee drinker but I love coffee in desserts and appreciate a good cappuccino from time to time so the scent of this one drew me in but unfortunately after brewing I didn’t like it too much, sorry.

Jumpy Monkey has been my go-to tea for staying awake for those early classes. I love the nutty, coffee like taste that’s not too over powering, and the light chocolate undertones. Perfect with a splash of milk, I find that it’s better to oversteep this, to get the full flavour effects.
