From Murchie's Tea & Coffee

A mosaic of black, green and oolong teas, blended with a hint of maple to celebrate our nation’s history and diversity.

Originally launched to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017, Canada 150 Blend has become a favourite with our fans. Enjoy this tea on your own, or give the gift of a great Canadian moment!

This blend deliberately weaves together several teas from different origins into a strong, malty, sweet whole. Following our tradition of green-blacks, the addition of gunpowder and oolong enhance this tea with smoky, savoury, toasty notes. The finishing touch is a dash of maple flavouring for a gently sweet, creamy finish.

Ingredients: Black tea (Ceylon, Keemun, Assam), Green tea (Gunpowder), Oolong tea (China), natural and artificial flavour

TTB 2025
I’m not typically a fan of green and black blended tea, but this steeped twice and had a nice smooth profile. The buttery maple is the star here, and I wasn’t sure at first, but the second steep won me over. I’ll take an extra bag for later consumption. Thanks for adding it to the box!

I wasn’t a fan of black-green blends either, but Murchie’s changed my mind.

TTB. If one were to judge a tea by smell alone I’d be walking out the door.

Smells like fake caramel and slightly old maple syrup. And I don’t say that lightly because I only buy the good stuff. We have a company here called Faxon Farms that makes fantastic maple syrup. Anyway…

I’m having a hard time getting over the aroma
It hurts my stomach. The liquor color us very nice. Clear and deep rosewood. The aroma has tampered off quite a bit still a bit of the fake caramel but now with slight woody notes. The flavor is… nope. Started off okay. Dark wood noted. Then that fake caramel flavor comes out. Sorry… no. I can’t. I tried a few sips to really make sure that I wasn’t judging the tea by the aroma but I really can’t stand this flavor

That is how I felt about Adagio’s vanilla flavoring in their vanilla black tea. Why can’t they just add some vanilla seed or pulp to the tea leaves? I know it’s expensive, but some things are worth it. But this is highly personal, because I, for example, dislike the taste of real maple. I much prefer a certain HFCS-based pancake sauce over genuine maple syrup. But I would take blueberry sauce over that! Or caramelized bananas over any of them!

This blend is pretty good, I didn’t get much of anything flavor wise until I sweetened it. I found it best sweetened with milk but I don’t think I’m going to repurchase it again. This is going in the sipdown bin.

That’s so interesting, I felt like this one had a pretty strong maple flavor to it. Different strokes ha ha! :)

Sipdown! (7 | 136)

Woo, finished the last of my Murchie’s teabags! Good thing too, as I just made another order yesterday… XD

This is my favorite of their maple teas, I think because the decadent, buttery maple flavoring isn’t quite so strong. It becomes a bit much for me in some of the other blends. I don’t really taste the green tea here, there’s a mineral note that could be coming from it if it’s gunpowder? This is a blend of three teas but ends up mostly tasting like a lighter-bodied black tea to me. A touch astringent from the Ceylon, but nothing major. Sometimes a raisin-like note from the Assam pops its head out, but mostly I taste Ceylon with little hints of other notes from the other teas.

I like it, I’ll have to try it in loose leaf one of these days, when I get around to making a reorder purchase instead of feeling compelled to try new teas… :P

This blend of maple flavoured black + malty assam + mellow green tea is just so delicious. I tried it with soy milk this morning and the smooth malty base + maple + milk was devine. Try this one if you want a subtler British-style black tea. It makes a great breakfast tea or afternoon tea.
