From Tealux

This organic Tencho Mimoto is another Tealux North America exclusive, available in very limited quantities and rarely found outside of Japan.

Handpicked Tencha is comprised of the ‘Mimoto’ parts of the leaf, being the heavier elements such as stems, heavily veined leaves and the mid ribs. These Mimoto parts are sifted out of the main harvest at the production stage, with the remaining lighter areas of the leaves ground into Macha tea. Mimoto tea is very nutritious and rich in theanine, producing a dark, rich loose leaf tea which is often the drink of choice for the growers themselves!

Organic Tencha Mimoto green leaf tea is produced at the only organic specialist Tencha plantation in Kyoto, Japan. Due to the high standards of production and the time investment required in handpicking and cultivation by skilled and experienced tea farmers, the yield of Tencha Mimoto remains small, and this tea is very rare and highly sought after, both in Japan and abroad.

Producing a very bright grassy yellow-green colour which is perfectly clear, the stimulating aroma and incomparably smooth, sweet and clean flavor palette of this tea is unmatched in both taste and aroma. Tencha is an easy tea to brew, performing well at a wide range of temperatures. As a very lightweight tea, you will need to add approximately twice as large a volume of leaves to your pot as you would for most other teas, to produce the perfect flavor strength. Definitely a must-try for all genuine green tea enthusiasts.

We’re going to pretend that the next words off my finger tips are not words typed by me. I.Love.This. Green. tea. yeah that’s right. this is a sipdown and i’m a little sad. The teafairy sent this one my way and i have to say i made it today and started sipping on it, not expecting to really enjoy this. And then suddenly, i was at the bottom of my cup and re-steeping a second cup. Yeah. That’s right. I found a green i really like. It doesn’t have that usual “green, vegetal” taste to it. I can believe it when they say this is a rare tea because the flavour was uniquely interesting. The sad part? It was so delicious i just kind of gulped my way through this and didn’t take very good notes on it, beyond loving it. So it’ll go on to my shopping list for a future tealux order with their black tea that i love…and we’ll give them another shot :) thank you teafairy!

love tencha too, yum!

Ysaurella

if you liked this green, I need to consider it ! as you I am not a very green person

Dexter

WOW!!! That is awesome that you found a green that you like. Best thing about swapping and letting others choose tea for you. They might pick something that you wouldn’t have chosen for yourself that turns out to be a winner.

Sil

Ysaurella – if i order some in the future, i’ll pass some along to you. saves you having to order it heh

Dexter – agreed! and that’s why i love swaps. teafairy also sent along a bunch of oolongs for me to try so it should be a fun time :)

Ysaurella

ah Oolongs are wonderful, you’ll have fun for sure as TheTeaFairy’s tastes are really very good !

keychange

I need to try some of this also!!

OMGsrsly

I’m gonna have to try this one too. :)

Sil

haha ok but if you guys don’t love it…don’t blame me! :)

TheTeaFairy

OMG, triple, quadruple YAY!!!!! Isn’t it pretty and usual to look at also? Such a nice deep green…so happy I have included it :-)
Guys, I would gladly send some to you if I had enough left, but the rest goes to another swap I have going on.
Ysaurella, I have other stuff I want to share with you, will be contacting you soon when time is right if you’re interested :-)

Sil

it DOES have a great colour to it as well :)

OMGsrsly

If I don’t like it, I can just make ochazuke with it!

Unfortunately, I didn’t rate this tea before, but luckily, it’s still rather good! The leaves are strangely fluffy, like… dried pork fluff stuff? They’re all ground up, so despite the recommendation on the package to use extra leaf as it’s a fluffy tea, I went with less leaf than normal (3/4 tsp for 8 oz) because I was worried it would be potent like a Japanese gyokuro. I was wrong. It’s so smooth, I clearly could have used more leaf, and will next time, though it was certainly flavourful even with a reduced amount of leaf. The flavour was a bit mariney and sweet, somewhat vegetal. Still tasted fresh, and not like an old green tea, which it is (I’d estimate 4-5 years in my possession).

Anyways, I should have tried this sooner. It’s yummy.

They make matcha by grounding this tea…Funny that I absolutely love it but can’t appreciate a good matcha.

The leaves resemble green party confetti. The little flakes are so light, you need at least 3 tsp to make a flavourful cup. It’s worth brewing in a glass vessel, looks like a shaken magic crystal snowball!

It’s too expensive to make it an everyday green, too bad cause I could drink it a lot more often. I only buy it once in a while and try to drink it quickly cause the fresher the better.

I like that it’s so forgiving for a green tea, not finicky at all. It never goes bitter, it’s pretty neutral, the taste is not overly grassy or vegetal and it’s probably one of sweetest greens I have had.

A green for the non green lover (even Sil and Dexter liked it!!)

It seems hard to find, out of the vendors I purchase from, only a few carry it.

Well I’m all out now…It was a great afternoon tea.

i like tencha more than matcha usually too! you’re not alone. (:

We all know that I don’t normally drink straight green tea. If asked I would say that I like Chinese green better than Japanese green – but that’s more of an impression than actual comparisons. In truth I don’t think I’ve tried enough of either to REALLY know.
TheTeaFairy sent me a sample of this one. She sent me quite a few outside my comfort zone, and as always will at least give it a try.
This is not like any other Japanese green that I’ve tried. This is really neutral – nothing jumping out as offensive or over powering, on the other hand it’s not weak or watery. I have no idea what this is other than a pleasant light cup of tea. I went through 3 three cups pretty much before I knew what had happened. I don’t think I would keep this in my cupboard, but wouldn’t turn down a cup or two of it in the future.
Thanks TheTeaFairy for expanding my experiences, and perhaps chip away at my preconceived notions….

Courtney

Interesting. The strong green teas are definitely not for me. Maybe something neutral would be a better starting point for straight greens.

Sil

I really liked this one from tea fairy as well….and I don’t like greens mostly

TheTeaFairy

Yay! I was really hopping you’d like this one! it’s a beautiful little tea, so unusual looking as well, dont you think?
