Cooking TTB #8

Did I do something wrong? I didn’t taste any berry of any sort, let alone a berry of the “yum” variety. Not that this was bad, but it just didn’t taste like much other than the base tea. Considering how much you pay for the weight of the pretty-looking berries, it just doesn’t seem like something I’d buy.

Fjellrev

Ha! This is the first of theirs I ever had and basically their last. Such a fail.

Anlina

This one was not good. All I got from it was tart and butter. Ick.

From the Cooking TTB

The dry leaf is so pretty, full of green balls of oolong and red and white freeze-dried chunks of fruit. Sadly, that’s where the good ends. This just tastes like tart strawberry and butter, and not in a good way. It’s not undrinkable, but I wouldn’t bother with a second cup of it either.

ew, that sounds…rather unpleasant

Fjellrev

Totally agree! This was one of the only ones I ever bought from them and it completely turned me off the company.

Teavana is more hit or miss than other tea companies for me. Their stuff is usually either fantastic or kind of crappy, with not a lot of middle ground (and sometimes down right terrible.)

It’s been nice to get to try more of their stuff in swaps and TTBs, so that I don’t get stuck with 2oz of something I don’t like. The number of their teas that have been bleh has made me cautious about trying new stuff, but the ones that have been amazing make me keep wanting to sample more.

PTS TTB
This tea looked pretty. More oolong than you usually see in a vhunk o’ food type of Teavana blend. Decided to give it a shot since I’m on an iced fruity tea streak. This turned out very weak. Not much oolong, maybe a slight floral and grassy hint, not much berry, just a hint of something fruity, and a little tart. I might drink this iced if offered on a hot day, but that’s it.

What a disappointment. Everything about this tea seemed like a perfect fit for me. I love oolong, I love berries, what’s not to love about this tea?

Unfortunately the result is way less than the sum of its parts. For one, I’ll echo what some others have said — there is very little actual oolong tea in this blend. So that’s a big problem… The tea flavor gets pretty much completely lost in the fruits. But that shouldn’t be a huge issue if the berry mix is delicious, right?

Well, that’s problem number two. The berry mix is a bit of a mess. All I can taste is intensely tart, generic fruit flavor. There’s so many different pieces is just becomes this muddled mess of fruit flavors. Nothing stands out. It’s completely unbalanced.

Not wanting to let 2 oz of tea go waste I have tried my best to salvage this tea. Different brew setups came out slightly different, but were ultimately overrun by the tartness (which makes it a totally unrefreshing iced tea). Blending with other teas seemed a good solution but in every case the result was the same – whatever tea I mixed with this was ruined by the horrid, inescapable, generic tartness.

Tartness is a great part of the experience with so many fruits. But that’s where this tea runs into trouble – tartness is only PART of the fruit experience, but it’s the whole flavor of this blend.

I don’t drink many caffeinated teas, and this reminded me of a lot of herbal teas or white flavored teas. The “tea” flavor from the oolong was very subtle, but not unpleasant. I really liked this tea. Not my favorite, but definitely one that I will use up happily.

I made the mistake of buying this tea via smell. I got home and made it, the taste is no where near the smell. I have tried to steep it many times, following direction and not… (I like tea strong so Ill usually let it steep until I get the best taste) I can tolarate it, but wont buy it again. Possibly trying it cold will be better!

Side note: So far I haven’t had a good experience with the company in store, but I bought 10 teas with the heavenly sale online (no pressure to spend more than I wanted). If I like them I will countinue to shop online!

First off, this tea smelled horrible when I opened it. It smelled like dried fruit that was sitting in a cardboard box for a long time. Looking at it and knowing the ingredients inside, I thought this tea would not only smell good but taste good as well. The taste was only okay (better than the smell thank goodness!) The tea is okay at first but then it leaves an odd aftertaste in your mouth. I will finish this product up, and will not be purchasing it again.

This is the only Oolong tea i’ve had so i do not have that background to compare it to, but it was okay. Seemed weak but delicate. My batch needed a lil more tea, i think.

One of my favorite teas for making iced tea. Mix this with Acai Matetini and 4 teaspoons of sugar and it’s amazing.
