Some days, you just need a nice, relaxing tea. You’ve had a long work week where you sat around in a circle and talked with a bunch of guys for 40 hours. I can only imagine how frazzled I would feel if they made me do much labor.

So that brings me to Yogi’s Kava tea for stress and relaxation. It suggests brewing two teabags for 7 minutes of you’re on the brink of insanity. I steeped 4 teabags for about 15 minutes. I think. I didn’t really count.

Man, this stuff tastes horrible. Because of the cinnamon and anise, at best, I would call it drinkable. I’m sure it’s there to cover the mud-like flavors of kava. It’s mouth-numbing qualities started to kick in, making it a little more tolerable. But by the end, the tea was cooling off. Memories of “bitter beer face” commercials came to mind as I cringed down the last sips.

But the tea is noticeably relaxing. A little more than sleepytime extra, the only other tea I can think of that recommends being over 18 to drink. Relaxing enough that I no longer felt like writing this review while drinking it.

If you’re both looking for the kind of flavor that makes you question if you hate yourself, but also desire mild relaxation, this is the drink for you.

Yogi just cannot leave that licorice alone!

Sad but true!

This tastes strongly of licorice root. The flavor lingers after each sip. On top of that, I might taste a little bit of cinnamon or some other spice. It doesn’t really stand out from other bagged teas, but it’s okay. It’s easy to drink and enjoyable warm or cold. I ended up with a few bags of this from a TTB, and I finished them off really quickly.

I could taste and smell mostly carob, sarsaparilla, and cinnamon and faint cardamom and hazelnut flavor but it was really thin and just weird. After the first sip, I wasn’t sure I’d continue but I finished the mug over the course of an hour. Way too sweet from the stevia. Blergh. Relaxing from the kava extract? Unsure. Verdict: gross.

I have never had a Yogi tea that wasn’t gross.

This tea had a more unexpected flavor than what I was anticipating. The licorice comes through rather strong for a very bold flavor of tea. I was expecting to taste more of the lavender but I could mostly only taste the spices. All in all it’s not my favorite tea from the Yogi line but it’s not bad.

I find stevia really gross-tasting, and while it wasn’t very noticeable for most of the cup of tea, once I got to the bottom it was overpowering. I could’ve stirred a bit better, but that would just have distributed the stevia flavor throughout, so I’m not sure that would have been better. Pretty disappointing; I’ll stick to chamomile.

I have tried different forms of Kava before with no luck so i thought i would give this a try. First off it smells horrible. It reminds me of something i can’t place but it upsets my stomach. The taste isn’t much better and leaves a funky aftertaste. I felt no relaxing effects after the first cup I would probably recommend to someone looking for relaxing tea who has never tried Kava but only if the smell didn’t put them off first.

Bought this among a bunch of other tisanes the other day to drink when I don’t want caffeine and want a large mug of something to keep warm. Tried this the other day when I wasn’t feeling great and I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. It didn’t taste the way I thought it would. I realized afterward that this has added natural flavoring, which may be why I feel meh about it. And one of those flavorings is hazelnut, and while I like hazelnuts, I am allergic to them so that may or may not be a bad thing. I clearly didn’t read the ingredients on this one before I bought it.

Inkay

I did not, thankfully. But I felt like I was about to for a few days, though I blame this on the weather, not the hazelnut flavoring.

Haveteawilltravel

ahhh, haha. I’m glad they don’t use natural flavorings, hahah.

Yogi tea seems to blend ingredients that are more medicinal than taste-focused, which I’m a fan of.

I think being able to enjoy something good for you in a soothing and delicious way is powerful.

Thus, drinking copious amounts can affect your health, as previous reviews have mentioned. The way I see it, it’s like cough drops. You CAN eat cough drops when you’re not sick – but the medical ingredients in it might throw you off kilter a slight bit, if there’s already nothing wrong with you (or if you’re sensitive to it in a specific way). That being said, I don’t think anything bad would happen if you just drank one cup of this.

If you finished the whole box in 5 days, then you might feel some effects. But none life-threatening.

As for Kava, it tastes pretty strong. It’s like licorice+cinamonny. I did not expect this, and don’t prefer it. I bought it soley because I’m stressed a lot. Personally, drinking this straight up just makes my mouth feel all spiced up, not relaxed.

However there is a trick… it tastes pretty good with milk!

The milk softens and compliments the spice, and creates a creamier (though watered-down) version of it.

After adding milk, I enjoyed this tea several times until the box was almost finished.
