It works very well with condensed milk (or condensed coconut milk, if you prefer) and tapioca pearls. By itself it’s somewhat lacklustre. I wouldn’t really call it ‘powder’ exactly; it’s just finely chopped leaves. It won’t dissolve in water, but can be used with any reasonably fine strainer.

I like Thai iced tea – no milk – but I’ve never gotten it for home use before. It’s really tasty.

Ok, I know I complained about this being weak last time, when I used one bag for a standard size water glass.

So I used two tonight. Let me tell you, even after ice and milk to the rim of the glass, this was still super strong. Good lord. Too strong one might say. Definitely going to have to make it in a 24 oz container or something.

But it’s exactly what I hoped it would be. Orange, opaque, and spiced in a way I’ve never been able to figure out. Tastes like the bottled stuff but fresher. Hell yes.

This is definitely my fsvorite Thai iced tea kit. Did you by chance buy yours at a World Market as well? I love how you can sweeten it to taste.

500th Tasting Note!!
I knew this wouldn’t sit unopened in my tea corner for very long.

Now, I know this is going to be full of not-so-authentic stuff, but I don’t care so much, honestly. Most of the Thai tea I’ve had growing up has been the orange powdered junk, but I love it anyway. That said, I was still kind of alarmed when I spilled a little on the floor and it was BRILLIANT orange.

The aroma before I add milk and ice is very strong. I’m getting a very potent vanilla-like smell with a hint of spices I can’t identify. Something about it smells bitter, too, but in an enticing way. It instantly brings back memories of trips to the Asian markets and Thai restaurants in the outskirts of Atlanta with my mom as a teenager.

I added two good handfuls of ice, some sweetener, and a splash of 1% milk. Even after that, it is still bright, carroty orange. Still, I fully expected it to not be strong enough since I only used one bag and a somewhat short steep time (which the instructions told me to do). I was right. While it’s not bad at all, it’s just a little weak. Next time, I’ll be going with a longer steep time. Maybe five minutes instead of three. Or just two bags instead of one.

It really does taste like what they serve in Thai and boba places. It’s very creamy, but not quite as creamy as restaurant-style because they use watered-down sweetened condensed milk. Anyway, this is something I’m going to play with until I get it the way I like it.

I’ve only had Thai Iced Tea once, and it was a magical experience. So when I saw this tea bag in the box, I knew I had to check it out. And I have to say its pretty darn close to that magical substance. I didn’t have any milk/cream/ect but I imagine it would be spot on if I did. Plus this way I can add 0cal sweetener and not feel as bad about drinking it lol.

Definitely have to look into getting more of this stuff.

Its really good with some almond milk :)

I had a thai bubble tea with milk for the first time the other day and I loved it. So when I saw this I had to pick some up for at some. I’m not really fond of the fact that they had to add the yellow coloring but I guess they wouldn’t really be able to consider it thai tea if it didn’t get that color. At least that’s what I assume.

I do love the color. Somehow it makes the tea taste better. Kinda fun to have an orange colored tea. When first steeped I couldn’t quite taste the vanilla and thai tea like I had hoped but as it’s cooled down the flavor has really come out. I’ve also added about a tsbp of almond milk and found the flavor is still quite good.

I brewed 5 bags in 6 cups of water with a half cup of natural sugar crystals. With some heavy cream, it is an almost identical replica of my favorite Thai restaurant’s brew. So lovely and perfectly balanced spice.

I almost bought some of this yesterday. Now I wish I had!

I’m drinking it with whole milk today and I would say that I have reached perfection. Go buy it. :D

wangderm is the best tea powder for making thai iced tea. it is orange in color and i brew it in my coffee pot. one/half cup per pot. i add lots of sugar and when i want a glass i add crushed ice first then the tea and on top i slowly pour half and half. it will rise to the top. this is what our local restaurant uses. so delishious.

It’s some kind of black tea, but from the taste obviously has various spices added to it too (which is good). The ingredient “tea powder” is kind of not complete. I would guess black tea, maybe cardamom, some other stuff.

This is the tea our local Thai restaurants serve. Delicious, and bright orange when you add milk, but no one seems to know what kind of tea the “tea powder” is. Anyone out there know?

I’ve been in a small town in Texas at my parents house for the summer. Unfortunately, the restaurant options here are VERY limited. I’ve been missing my favorite tiny Thai restaurant and their delicious Thai Iced Tea and was just thinking about it today. Well, I made a Traveling Tea Box on another website (www.reddit.com/r/teaexchange). I just received it back today after it going all across the US and even to the UK and Japan. I’ve been looking through it and there are SO MANY teas in there. But then I saw this little tea bag hidden behind everything else and knew I had to make it first. It makes such a crazy fun orange color while steeping. Normally I don’t like super sweet teas, but this is the kind of tea that just HAS to be super sweet. It’s very good and a close second to the version from my favorite Thai restaurant. I will definitely be looking to buy more.

I’ve been thinking about starting a box like that here, but I’m afraid of it vanishing…but because of the post office and not people here! That’s awesome it made it all the way back!

Emilie

I was worried about that too! It took a while to go from here to the UK, but other than that, it didn’t seem like there were any post office problems. We got lucky!

I received this bagged iced tea as a gift from my sister in Oregon, and I really do appreciate it. I always love getting tea gifts even though I have several buttloads of the leaf.

As the water was getting hot I read the box-’Flavor with lemon or lime (I really like lime), Thai black tea, FD & C Yellow #6, and Vanilla. Huh? Uuhh Ohh….artificial coloring, and… {Sniff Sniff} arificial flavoring. :-[

The cup color was a very pretty deep orange in my glass, but it smelled artificial. I added sugar-much more than necessary, and added a little ice. I like some sugar in my iced tea sometimes, but this was WAAY to sweet. I am still tasting artificial vanilla-BOOO & hiss!

Even the additional sweetener couldn’t hide the artificial flavoring, and may have prevented me from tasting any tea. I was going to buy real limes, but maybe I’ll save a little money and go for the lime juice in a bottle. I need something more to help this tea!

My sister is a rather short, feisty person, with a great sense of humor, but if she reads this poor review, she could kick my butt, several times over!

I don’t know why I looked up “buttload” in the wee hours of the morning.

After reading the first definition, I couldn’t stop laughing! :)) Perhaps I was slap-happy. Anyway, it sure was more entertaining than this tea!

Major boo at the artificial colouring. I’m very against that sort of thing. I’d rather drink a beverage with little to no colour than one bursting with vibrant artificialness. Flavouring I have much less problem with (unless the taste is fakey), but colouring is completely unnecessary!

Lucy

Haha buttload. It was because it was in the wee hours of the morning =)

Azzrian

ROFL I like #3 the best :)

Missy

LOL I’ve used buttload before, but I’ve never looked it up.

ScottTeaMan

Bigger than “this”….bigger than “this”…but smaller than “that”! HAHAHA…..seriously! Who thought to define it that way. I never knew…….

ScottTeaMan

#3!!! Oh, Stop the tears of laughter!

Sandy Stith

LOL on the urban dictionary!

Mélissa

Iced teas are meant to be sweetened. Litterally. They are screaming ‘’Put some agave on meeeee’‘. And I’m with you on the artificial flavorings….cringe

I have to preface this saying that I love Thai iced tea. It’s probably one of my first loves, and still my favorite iced tea. Anyway, Wangderm has come out with a great black tea to replicate the taste of the Jasmine green tea, milk and sugar in Thai iced tea. It tastes just like a good Thai iced tea, and you can even drink it hot. It’s very delicious.
