124 Tasting Notes

Tiramisu Rooibos from Sanctuary T
94

Yes please! Prepared with milk. Would be even tastier with sugar.

Heartburn Tea from Earth Mama Angel Baby
Morning Wellness from Earth Mama Angel Baby
Genmai Cha from Yamamotoyama
81

I picked up a looseleaf version of this from the local Japanese market. I might have brewed it too weak because I’m not getting a lot of the rice flavor that I love. Still a good green tea.

Jasmine Green Tea from Teas Etc
90

I have really never tasted a Jasmine tea I didn’t like. This one came as a free sample with my new travel tea mug from Teas etc. I tried it out in the mug and it was neat to see some of the flowers unfurl. it tasted a little bitter toward the end, because of the way the leaves remain in this particular mug after steeping, and not because of any flaw in the tea. I didn’t get any shakes or nervousness from the caffeine in this, so that makes me a happy camper.

Basil Rooibos from Cuida Te
61

I could not find this on the internet, so I hope I have the information right. I had to buy this when I saw it because I did a double take. BASIL?! In tea? Smells ok? Let’s do this!

The result is, well, I’m not sure. I love how my hands smell after I pluck the blossoms from my basil plant at home, so the aroma was very soothing for me. I think the rooibos might be throwing me off. The combined effect tastes herbal (like spice rack herbal) and dulls all flavors in my mouth, like a cigarette. OK, now the flavor seems more metallic to me, like a spoon.

Soba cha from Teaism
100

Reminds me of coffee & toasted rice. Savory & hearty.

World Peace from Teaism
90

Just tried this while on vacation in DC. All I tasted was peppermint. Good. But just peppermint.

Republic Chai from The Republic of Tea
96

Delicious. This tastes EXACTLY like the Republic RED Chai, which is one of my favorites. Very strong and peppery. I always consume this in loose leaf (maybe those who commented about weakness are using bags). I always add milk and sweetener to round it out. I’ll probably stick with the red version, because I love having a non caffeinated chai. However, its good to know I could slip a little caffeine buzz in there without any substantial flavor change. One nice thing about the black tea version is that this does not have the long pokey rooibos strands that seem to slip through the filter. Getting those suckers caught in your throat ruins the experience.

Watermelon Blackberry Black Tea from The Republic of Tea
72

Pretty good tea, borrowed from a fellow tea sipping coworker. I can’t find this online, so I wonder where she picked it up. I love the vintage all-American design of this label. The plain bag smell is not so inspiring but a brewed cup is actually quite refreshing. The dark color of the black tea is very strange in comparison to the more light watermelon flavor. I would like to experience this iced, because warm watermelon flavor is a little unfamiliar.

Orange Ginger Mint from The Republic of Tea

Strawberry Chocolate from The Republic of Tea

Just bought a whole tin of this on impulse from Whole Foods’ valentine display. I opened up the tin and let the scent waft about my car on the ride home. I was genuinely worried after reading others’ tasting notes that this might turn into a cognitive dissonance thing (hello psych degree) where I’d convince myself I like it just to avoid buyer’s remorse. But I honestly do love this. . . with TONS of sugar. Delicious candy in a cup!

Ambrosia White Plum from Zhena's Gypsy Tea
82

The first of this sampler pack that I genuinely enjoy. I accidentally let this steep for 7 minutes instead of the recommended 3-5 and it is not at all bitter. Very light, in fact. I was skeptical of the inclusion of Stevia because it seems that sweetener is a personal preference…however I think it works. Without the sweetener this might actually taste bland.

Sky Between the Branches (Gu Zhang Mao Jian) from The Republic of Tea
75

Not sure why I said it tasted like white last time. This is definitely green and has an earthy flavor. Nice, but basic. This is the last of my stash and I doubt I’ll be replacing it.

Vanilla Spice from Ashby's of London
73

Found glazed donuts waiting for everyone at work today. Hooray free donuts! I thought this would be a good time to try this vanilla spice tea sample I picked up at a cute little shop in Fredricksburg (cute B&B type small TX town). The tea bag smelled heavenly next to the warm donut and it works pretty well in liquid form too. I even gave it a little dunk, as I hear people do such things with donuts and coffee. (note do not dunk donuts in tea unless you enjoy watery donuts).

Ginger Peach Decaf from The Republic of Tea

Blackberry Sage from The Republic of Tea

For once, a fruit tea that is not overwhelmed by hibiscus. I honestly like this. “Soft” is a good descriptor for the blackberry flavor. Its not biting me with berry flavor, but its there. This was better without sweetener. After adding agave nectar, it took on a fake candle wax kind of flavor.

Orange Blossom from The Republic of Tea
Awake- Filterbag from Tazo
68

Woke up to this today. Single serving bag was provided at the Bed & Breakfast we stayed at. Don’t normally drink this much caffeine, but it was what was available. Pretty standard black tea. Gave me some ZING and then I had my standard crash 3 hours later.

Egyptian Mint from Zhena's Gypsy Tea
62

Meh. Not bad nor good. More of my Christmas gift sampler. I’m detecting a spicy note in this that I tasted in the other Zhena’s sampler. Celeryish again. My common sense tells me no one would put that in a mint tea. But it bites the sides of my tongue and lingers just like that.
