This cake tea came from a private reserve. You could not get it in local market anymore!

An authentic CNNP (China National Native Produce and Animal By-products Imp. And Exp. Corp.) product made by famous Menghai Tea Factory.

The cake is made of arbor tea leaves from Yiwu mountain, and it was made in Menghai Tea Factory in 2003, considering it a truly authentic rare and unique Pu-erh tea. It went into aging in a dry storage that delivered a taste of a good aged green Pu-erh. Superior grade raw material, famous producer, you got a great tea!

This tea is already showing fine aging with a reddish liquor, over-powered by strong ‘Qi’ to make you sweaty. The taste has depth and strength with distinct odours of camphor, rich herbal notes like Chinese medicine, yet pungency after multiple brews – complex, not your average Pu-erh tea for sure. You either love it or hate it. Enjoy it now or put it away for a even more wonderful tea developed, a treasure not to be missed.

In olden days, top quality Pu-erh teas were not in great demand, Menghai Tea Factory was still a state owned company that made some legendary world-renowned products.

This was the first tea I brewed in my new yixing teapot, and I’m very glad I chose this tea for that honor.

The tea itself steeped a nice clear red-brown color with the scent of chinese medicine, golden raisins, and earth. There was also the scent of camphor in the lid of my yixing pot. The mouth-feel was very smooth and full-bodied without a hint of dryness or astringency. After two infusions flavors of anise, jujubes (chinese date not the candy), and a honey raisin-like sweetness appear on top of a nice woody, earthy bitterness.

The tea lasted went on for 10 infusions and then started to loose its strength. Overall a very good tea: good, complex flavor; full-bodied and smooth; lasting strength; and pleasant chaqi. Too bad the cake isn’t available anymore.

If I can only have a minute taste of heaven this is it! When it comes to Pu Erh. Red-Copper-Golden hue with a sweet earthiness thru and thru with a slight lingering acidity. Very rounded mouth finish. Yes…Yes…Yes…
