6444 Tasting Notes
I made this iced after having it hot and I think this is how I prefer it. It has the same flavors as the hot version and ultimately I feel those flavors lend themselves best to a colder drink. Nonetheless, like all the other Fall blends this year, I am still not sold so the rest of my sample is going to a friend as my relationship with this tea has run its course.
I don’t reach for this ever but when I do, it is always perfection. Today I am having it iced and it is certainly making for a refreshing drink. The cantaloupe flavor is spot on and incredibly true to the fruit while the notes of cream add just a little more depth to the cup. So good. So very good.
Today has been a tea-filled morning but most of it has been things I have been considering selling in order to hone in my cupboard. Consequently, nothing has been all that amazing, though most haven’t been bad. Thus, I decided to break out this tea which I bought a few months back because I loved it and have yet to open the package. Well, I changed that today and I am happy I did because it’s still delicious. Tangy rhubarb, sweet strawberry, tasty pastry notes from the bunny grahams, and nice creamy custard. All present and all awesome.
So this smells like bubblegum both dry and brewed. Weird…very weird. Though now that I have tried it cold brewed and hot, I can say I definitely prefer it hot. It is still sweet but a different sort of sweetness than the cold brew. It tastes like those caramel apple lollipops except one that has been soaked in vanilla for a few days to make it that much sweeter. Ultimately, it’s not something I will be restocking once I finish my sample but that’s okay because I have a lot of teas anyways.
I do really enjoy this tea, I just never reach for it. I really should though because this is sweet and delicious. Rich fruitiness from the blueberries and yet a candy-like quality from the mallow blossoms. Also, I am always shocked that this has pu’erh because I don’t taste it at all and thank goodness for that.
I purchased this in my last Butiki order to split with Cavocorax but just prior to it’s arrival, a package from Roswell Strange arrived with a sample of this tea. Now I am working on the sample from my tea twin and though it’s not bad, it’s not what I was expecting either. Based on some reviews, I expected rich and decadent caramel and though there is notes of that in the cup, it is not the sweet treat I hoped for. Still at least now I have satisfied my curiosity.
My tea twin Roswell Strange sent me this and I decided to cold brew half the sample and hot brew the other.
I took the cold brew with me when I went out with my mother and as she became super thirsty, she decided to take a sip and all I saw was her pucker and not look impressed. However, she doesn’t drink tea so that might have had something to do with it given this tea is not that bad. Cold, it is mostly like a watered down apple juice with a touch of cream and a hint of hibby tartness.
As a hot brew, I can see this taking milk very well. The cream element comes out a bit more than in the cold brew but something about the combination of flavors is coming off a bit chalky. When I first tried it hot, it made me think of clay and that is just not something I want to be reminded of when I sip on my tea. Though, with that said, it really isn’t that bad of a tea, just not something I would need to have around.
So I have had this tea many times now and though I enjoy it, I am quickly losing interest. The cinnamon is there and it is nicely balanced but I miss the icing and pastry elements I used to detect so easily. Now, I find I am picking up more on the honeybush component than I used to and that makes me sad. I don’t have much left though so I will try to enjoy what I have (or perhaps swap/sell the remaining 15g) and then that will be the end of that.
