Tea of the Week for December 30. 2019!

Retro Monday Reblend!

For those who have been with 52Teas for a while, you may already notice a slight change from the original here – the original Maple Cheesecake was a TieGuanYin and it was noted in the name of tea: Maple Cheesecake TieGuanYin. Well, instead of using a greener, floral TieGuanYin this time around, I used a slightly toasty, fruity Qilan Oolong. And let me tell you: I LOVE this! The warmer notes from the Qilan add so much to the maple & cheesecake notes of this blend.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I loved the original too. I loved the way the creaminess of the TieGuanYin brought out the creamy notes and textures of the cheesecake. It worked really well together. But I found myself wanting just a little something different this time around and when I received the Qilan in a recent shipment and tested it, I decided that it should be the base for the Maple Cheesecake! And I’m really glad I made that determination because this is absolutely delightful!

And – it’s organic, VEGAN, gluten-free & allergen-free!

organic ingredients: oolong tea, calendula petals & natural flavors

I had a bunch of different options from 52Teas that I could have picked for a cake tea, but I went with this one because I thought I might be close enough to finishing the sample to get in a sipdown – not quite, though. I think I still have one more cup worth left. It was still delicious though; mostly a straight forward sweet maple note on the more mineral and woody oolong base but there was some creaminess to the finish.

This is the last tea from my mystery bags. The scent of the dry leaf is super mapley, so I’m pretty excited. The flavor is pretty complex. I get the maple, plus some nice woodiness, plus a flavor that must be the cheesecake. I won’t say it tastes exactly like cheesecake, but you know, it works! I’m having it with milk, and I’m really enjoying it. The maple could be stronger, but I also like the balance of flavors it’s going for. I made a second steep, which tastes like cheesecake! Mildly maple, delicious cheesecake. This is a great tea!

Lawd a mercy, I hope they still make this tea! I got this in a tea swap – I can’t really taste the cheesecake part, but the maple and the oolong go so well together – I made a giant pot and I’ve been sipping this tea over the last two days, one small tea cup at a time – what a treat!

This was a gift from amandastory516 a while back. Gosh, it’s probably been nearly a year ago now. I can’t believe I haven’t tried it yet! The dry leaf smells delicious – very strong, sweet maple. I don’t smell or taste the cheesecake, but I’ve never experienced that flavor in any other blend either. I guess it would be tangy, tart, creamy? I don’t taste any of that here. To me, this is straight maple with a background of roasty, toasty oolong. I really enjoyed it.

2022 Sipdown 121/365!

Also oversteeped, but this tea fared ok. Lovely maple, nice oolong base, but the cheesecake was lost.

So I’m back. For today at least. I hadn’t had a proper cuppa in weeks and tonight I was like “You know what. It’s Tea Time Thursday!” So thus, here we are.

Without any sweetener, this tastes like a leafy oolong with a hint of maple. With the additional a single splenda however, it now tastes like a lovely pancake breakfast. However, on top of that maple pancake flavor is a bit of bitey-ness not present in other pancake blends. I like it a lot and I sort of wish I had more of this. It’s different.

Overall, I think this is a tasty maple blend. I wouldn’t necessarily say it tastes like cheesecake, but it isn’t a straight maple flavor either. It’s definitely tasty though. I recommend.

This tea is what I had always hoped DavidsTea’s Maple Syrup Oolong tasted like. The maple flavor is distinct without being too intense, and there’s a bit of creaminess from cheesecake flavor.
