Many Adagio teas have way too much cinnamon, but this one isn’t too bad. It isn’t a terrible novelty tea, but the Chocolate Latte alone is better. This first cup must not have any ginger, because I do not taste it at all.

Latte Sipdown (345)

Thank you Cameron B for sharing this tea. I am loving all the fun additions this wicked collection has. The confetti sprinkles are delightful but that’s about all this tea has going for it.

When I saw Chocolate Chai, I immediately thought latte. When this tea was steeping, I immediately thought dirt…because that is sort of what this smelled like.

As a latte, it is not horrendous and dirt-like as I thought but it is certainly weird. Similar to Cameron B, I am getting a lot of ginger but not in a good way. I like the flavor of crystalized ginger or that ginger burn but this is earthy ginger and it is almost like someone used ginger root but forgot to peel it and there was still dirt on the peel. So, I guess it is earthy and gingery and it is wasn’t a latte, I think I may not have been able to get through the mug. I think the milk tones everything down a bit.

It was definitely fun to try though so thanks again, Cameron B!

Wicked Teas!

Well, I saw these when they released but wasn’t going to pick them up, because honestly I’ve just been a bit annoyed at Adagio lately with all the discussion post link insertion and bumping, and have been hesitant to patronize them because of that. But! Then a friend of mine did an unboxing video on Instagram, and it pushed me over the edge. The packaging is just so stinking cute this year, with a witchy potion bottle theme. Love the black background and the art style! Plus they have reformulated almost all of them since I last tried them a few years ago. They used to all be sort of samey, one or two-flavor black teas with some sort of sprinkles. Now they are all more varied blends it seems like, though still mostly black teas for some reason. I feel like they should throw a green or white blend in there somewhere for variety…

Anyway! This is a mix of chocolate chai with cinnamon and chocolate truffle black teas. It smells very cinnamon-heavy and there are a lot of bark pieces as well. I am getting a lot of cinnamon in the flavor as well. Definitely a cinnamon candy sort of flavoring, but it’s not as powerful as something like Hot Cinnamon Spice. I think the earthier ginger is working nicely to curb the sweetness a bit. Not really noticing the chocolate much, though I do smell it in the aroma. Maybe a tiny bit at the end of the sip.

It’s not amazing or anything, but serviceable. I’m not the biggest fan of Adagio’s black tea base, and I feel like the cinnamon chips and ginger here are accentuating its astringency a bit. It’s not pucker-inducing, but definitely quite a drying finish.
