From Harney & Sons

Our Irish Breakfast tea is 100% Assam, and like most traditional Irish blends, this is a great way to begin your morning. In contrast to other versions of Irish Breakfast tea, you could say ours is a little more sophisticated. It tastes great on its own or takes milk and sugar well.

Ingredients: Black tea.

Details: The Harneys have been out of Ireland for sometime, so our Irish Breakfast is an older version. This tea recalls a time when the teas came from Assam, not Africa; and were small broken leaves, not CTC pellets. So this is a simple tea that can handle milk and sugar well.
Dry Leaves: Dark brown leaves.
Liquor: A medium-dark brown liquor.
Aroma: This has some of the malty aromas found in other Assams. However, since it is a smaller tea and there are no tips, the aromas seem to be muted.
Caffeine Level: Caffeinated
Body: This has very good body. It is usually served with milk. Of course, the Irish would have it no other way.
Flavors: This is usually served with milk and sugar, so the flavors harmonize well with them. There are subtle notes of roast malt.
Brewing Time: 4 to 5 minutes
Brewing Temp: 212° Fº

Wow, this is STRONG! I don’t usually take milk or sugar in my tea, but after the first few sips, I knew I’d be making an exception. I can see why this is a morning tea – it will get you going for sure!

My first tasting note! I received my first Harney order yesterday, and was so excited I woke up at 6:30am to make this…odd, I know!
I made this in my breville one touch, and considering this very strong black tea I’ve been having(Yorkshire gold) this was a welcome start to my day. Malty, smooth and was great with milk and honey. I must not have cleaned the breville well enough last night after I made a pot of Hot Cinnamon as there was a faint taste of cinnamon, which actually worked quite well.
A great start to Saturday!

Was a little sketchy about trying another new black tea since they never seem to taste how I expect, but this one surprised me! Why it’s kinda woody still, I can definitely taste the malt. Which is one of the things I like best about black teas!
This tea is strong, and yet kinda creamy. If I end up not buying more of this, I think I’ll at least enjoy the rest of the sample I got!

I like a nice Assam in the morning. I take it with a splash of 2% milk. My main requirements is to have this strong and malty. This is not bad. I suspect I will keep looking for the “perfect” morning cup, but this can stay in the kitchen as I search. It’s a nice quality CTC leaf, the dry leaf has a great scent. I brewed this up in the One Touch and it made a nice morning cup.

Drinking this for my morning cup. I wanted a breakfast tea, but English Breakfast is a little too mellow for my tastes. This Irish Breakfast is similar to Twinings in taste, but with much nicer depth of flavor. I don’t add things to my tea, and though this one is pretty strong, I almost wish I had gotten one of their Scottish blends, which are supposedly stronger.

A favorite in the morning, with a nice amount of CTC Assam in it to give it a hardy boost of flavour and body.

At Au Bon Pain right now and decided to get this. Good tea. It’s not something I would go out of my way to purchase on its own at the supermarket, but I wouldn’t mind getting a cup if I’m in ABP again.
