From Lupicia

RIPE MANGO OOLONG is a refreshing high-quality Taiwanese oolong tea scented with sweet, ripe mangoes. The exquisite aroma of juicy mangoes enhances the flavor of the Taiwanese pouchong. Great as hot tea enjoyed over several steeps or as iced tea which emphasizes the exotic mango flavor.

Ingredients: Oolong tea, dried mango (mango, sugar, citric acid), orange flower, flavourings

Country of Origin: Taiwan

Instructions: 2.5-3g tea leaves per 150ml boiling water, steeped 1.5-2 minutes. Infusion: 1-2 cups

Such a beautifully-flavoured tea. Had a very enjoyable cup and multiple additional infusion of this over the past 24 hours or so.

I’m enjoying trying other Lupicia fruit-flavored oolongs! This one has a lighter flavor, perhaps a touch too light for my preferences even when overleafed, as compared to the Melon Oolong or the Kotobuki (which is my favorite of theirs). I got two good steeps out of it, though. A nice, true mango flavor. This really makes me want to pick up some of their Alphonso Mango tea now. Thanks for the sample, Ost!

Another sample from greenteafairy. I’ve been itching to try this one after loving their Melon Oolong so much, and considering mango is one of my favorite fruits. The base tea of this one looks like a pouchong, similar to their Mountain Grape Oolong. There was one little yellow flower petal in my sample. Dry scent is very sweet and fruity, and definitely of the mango persuasion.

Mm, once steeped the tea retains its sweet mango aroma, although there is a touch of floral now as well. Yum, this is a good one. The mango flavor is sweet and juicy, and the oolong base is substantial but not overpowering the flavor. There is a bit of a floral note, but I think I could probably lessen that by using more tea and a shorter steep. Overall, mango yum!

I covet this one greatly. And just saw the Lupicia has free shipping in the US. Yikes! :P

OMGsrsly

They ship to Canada as well, and IIRC it’s not too terribly expensive. I think Dexter did an order.

WHY YOU TELL ME THIS?! D:

The light, yet apparent, perfectly mango flavouring paired with the light oolong base works so well.

Yum, I want! :D

And this tea!
Ugh. I am sooo glad that I bought this one in my Lupica order! It’s absolutely amazing I tell you!!
I took it to work in my tumbler and it was perfume-y and fruity. It was just delicious!
Was very sad when I finished the tea at work too D: It made my morning wonderful! Goodness…I just really love this tea. xD

Cameron B.

Sounds like it should be higher than a 75! :P

Ost

Haha wow I didn’t even realize that I had rated this low, and clearly forgot to change the rating. I should change it right now haha! I didn’t even catch that, thanks! XD

Marzipan

Don’t make me get out of bed to do a last minute order.

Ost

Haha it would be totally worth it, Marz! But they will probably have another free shipping offer again soon. Maybe for black friday?

Zack S.

Do they do the Free Shipping offer frequently?

Marzipan

It was sold out in the tins, so fate settled it for me.

Ost

Zach S., I have no idea. But you never know!
That’s a bummer, Marzipan, better luck next time? Definitely worth the try!

Weird! I don’t recall how I felt about this tea previously, but being an oolong (and oolongs not being my thing) I’m guessing I didn’t like it. I get a very flat cardboard taste from oolongs. OMGsrsly mentioned steeping Lupica oolongs in boiling water for a short amount of time, so I’m trying it. It is making all the difference! I’m getting a very floral like mango taste. It is very light and bright and lacks any of the flatness I have experienced in oolongs. There is a more natural mango taste that lingers after the sip. This isn’t the most delicious cup in the world, but I’ve almost finished it and I’m amazed at how big of a difference the right steeping parameters can make for a tea! Thanks for the tip OMGsrsly!

:) Not a problem! Anna kept telling me to use boiling water, so I did. I just have Mango Oolong though. Not sure what the differences are!

blech. this is NOT a tea for making iced if you don’t like “oolong” taste. i thought i’d try it out since i was enjoying the mango flavouring and the sorts of reminding flavour of melon. turns out, that just makes it not so much drinkable for me, since i’m not a fan of that green oolong sort of taste. But at least this way i know lol

I was pleased to see this tea in my Happy Bag from Lupicia this year. It’s always been one that I have been curious about. I love mangos, I love oolongs, and Lupicia tends to do a good job with flavored oolongs. I think that I have actually drank this once since I got it but I never wrote a tasting note for it.

There is something about the scent of the brewed tea that is really familiar, but I can’t quite place it. This seems to be more of a pouchong (long wiry leaves) than a rolled high mountain oolong like many of their other flavored ones. The flavor on this is quite good. It’s a bit mango hi-chews, which are some of the best mango candy that I’ve ever had. That still means its a bit more candy than fresh mango, but fresh fruit is difficult to capture in a tea. Then again, maybe if I had tried a ripe mango fresh from a market in southeast Asia, maybe I would tell a different story. Still, this is very nice and the oolong does add a freshness to it. Overall I am glad I have it around.

oh no, did I miss the happy bags?

Indigobloom

This sounds interesting. I’ve never had a mango oolong blend

Dinosara

TeaBrat: this is from the happy bag that I got back in January for New Years… Just getting around to it now for most of the teas. :P

OMGsrsly

Oh, mango hi-chews are great! I actually found mango tic-tacs today, but they’re a bit… soapy.

I must have done something wrong because… I didn’t care for this very much.

The aroma of dry leaves is strong and wonderful at first but then its fruitiness dissipates and some weird plastic-bag-like notes come up. It starts to smell like something that is artificial but masks itself really good as a tropical fruit aroma.

I didn’t think much of it since it’s just dry leaf. But the flavor is very reminiscent of the way that dry leaf smelled. In fact, it is a little worse. I barely got any mango here, just some distant “echo” of it and then this plastic-bag aftertaste would kick in. I must mention here that I got this straight from Lupicia in their usual silver pouch, didn’t keep it in some ziploc on the bottom of many other teas that coud contaminate it. But I really don’t think I got a wrong batch or that anything happened to it whie I was storing it. I think it’s just me not getting this ;)

I also remember it being more bitter than you would expect from a delicate fruit-favored oolong. Especialy on the second steeping.

I seem to have an issue with their pouchong base. I remember liking Momo Supergrade that uses the same leaf as the base and while I liked Momo more than this, I still was not as elated about it like many other Steepsterites.

Oh well, I’ll keep trying it, maybe play with the steeping temperature a bit. We’ll see.

Anna

Could it be that you haven’t followed the steeping instructions? I make this at boiling/1.5-2 minutes, as the bag suggests. Most of the Lupicia-related complaints about bitterness I see come from situations where there’s a low steeping temperature…

…then again, maybe this just isn’t right for you. So sad, but it just happens.

I AM HERE FOR YOU IN THIS DIFFICULT TIME.

Kat_Maria

:D I will definitely try their steeping instructions. I just thought that one can’t go wrong steeping a Lupicia tea whatever it is they do, but maybe NOT ;) I will try 2 minutes @ boiling next time!

Anna

I look forward to reading all about it, because tea science!

(I went to my tea cupboard and told the RMO to not be sad and that everything is going to be okay.)

Sipdown!! (142)

Thank you Kat_Maria for this tasty, tasty tea. Lupicia really knows their oolongs because this is delicious! Nice mellow base coupled with a great mango flavor. Yum :)

Sil

Aaaaah you’re so going to pass me while I’m away…

VariaTEA

Haha. I packaged a lot of samples up to send off to Roswell Strange. Plus, as soon as I get home, I will have teas waiting for me which means if I want to get to 150 by the end of the month, I have to sipdown lots and lots of teas prior to returning home.

Sil

I suspect there will be teas waiting for me at home…but so far I’ve only bought 3 teas….in three days. Hahaha. Nt drinking as much tea here as I’d. Hoped but at least I’m getting a few cups in here’re and there

VariaTEA

What teas have you bought so far? Also, I am sure you will make up your tea drinking when you return home.

Sil

After dark, maple seduction and Irish breakfast from steam.
