I’ve been on a huge coconut kick the last couple of years. Coconut milk, coconut water, coconut oil, coconut flakes, coconut sugar, and of course, coconut teas! It was a no-brainer for me to order coconut matcha.

I honestly was a bit worried when I smelled the dry matcha, as it doesn’t smell like coconut to me. I think more of the true matcha smell comes through. It’s not a bad smell, just not exactly what I was expecting.

I shouldn’t have been afraid. I’ve had it a few times now, blended up with some vanilla almond milk. I keep meaning to try it straight up with water, but I love it so much with the almond milk I keep choosing to go that route. I love the froth the blender creates. Much better than my hand-whisking produces. It has a really nice, almost creamy coconut flavour to it.

I got mine at http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/coconut-matcha.html, and took advantage of the buy 5, get 2 free deal, which was awesome. I got the classic grade of matcha with the robust flavouring. I’m glad I got the stronger flavouring, as I think the taste would have been too mild for me otherwise. The hardest decision now is deciding which one to drink in the morning.

Oops, I accidentally bought some teas from Amoda. (All are caffeine free, though, so they don’t count right?)

That means I really have to finish off some more caffinated teas and noncaffinated teas now. I had one sample of this left and it was definitely a good morning to do so.

Creamy, floral notes (like jade oolong type floral), the soy milk really rounds everything out. The coconut flavour is very strong, but I think that makes it ideal for a latte.

This stuff smells like heaven!! from the box yet again.
I often think and even say I don’t like coconut but then I smell a pure sweet young coconut scent and remember that I do adore some coconut. Happy sighs.
It’s very creamy on it’s own. Just the way I love it! :D
I’m not sure what level of flavouring this is but I do wish it was a bit less. I can’t really taste the matcha.

Also, it looks like I am the first person to review this in almost a year?!

Roswell Strange

Technically my last note for this one was two months ago :P

Oh! haha I only briefly perused the notes. Looks like I forgot to expand the further notes sections.

Hmm did steepster eat my review? I did a blog post about this matcha http://oolongowl.com/coconut-matcha-red-leaf-tea-oolong-owl-tea-review/ and don’t see my post or cupboard action. Maybe I forgot? Anyways, check my blog review for straight up review of this matcha.

Today I did something amazing with this stuff – I did a smoothie with coconut matcha, Taro drink mix and soymilk. SOOO GOOOD! Better than the Taro Coconut bubble teas at the Boba shop. Now, if Taro mix was cheaper I could have this all the time!

Coconut Matcha Soda and Macaroni and Cheese for breakfast! It may seem like a simple meal, but it’s the best I’ve cooked for myself since last Wednesday when I got sick – and certainly the most fun I’ve had with my matcha…

Somewhat sadly this finishes off the Coconut Matcha from Courtney; thankfully I still have a full 30g bag of it sealed in the freezer – but now I’m probably going to wind up opening that a little sooner rather than later.

As a matcha soda; this is ok! It’s pretty refreshing and feels like some kind of tropical spritzer type thing I could be having while on vacation. Downsides are that it’s a bit more vegetal than I’m accustomed for with this particular matcha, and not as creamy. For those reasons, I prefer this in milk: but I will enjoy the rest of the soda I’ve whipped up too.

Side Note: I’m so pissed at my mailman right now! I checked the mail at 10:00AM today for my Red Bubble T-Shirt order and the mail hadn’t been delivered yet. I checked again at 11:00AM and the mail had shown up but the stupid mail guy had just left me of those pick up slips which means I have to go rescue my stuff from postal jail.

It’s a huge piss off though because the postal jail they send my stuff to is not closely located to my home despite having THREE other post offices within a closer range (ugh!), and I have a standing agreement with my post guy that if he gets stuff for me and no one answers to just leave it in the boot room, which is unlocked (because the door to my area of the house locks and so does the door to my landlord’s area of the house). So, either my postal dude is being a dick or it wasn’t him today…

Plus, NO ONE KNOCKED!

Even more frustrating: there’s an $18 charge to go pick up my stuff. Why!? Don’t tell me it had inadequate postage: I bought it online – those bitches should know their shit. I just want my fucking t-shirts.

keychange

That is indeed supremely frustrating. uggh!

Lala

I wonder if there are tariffs or duty charged to get it. There shouldn’t be any additional postage as if would have been returned to sender if there wasn’t enough. Unless the company sent it COD

Roswell Strange

I’m trying to figure out when I can actually go pick it up… I don’t have a day off until next Tuesday! And post office is closed by the time I’m off work.

Lala

They do 3 attempted deliveries. I am not sure how often apart, I think every two days. But if you have to pay a fee for it, they probably won’t leave it.

This is my favorite flavor of matcha I have tried so far. As an existing fan of coconut drinks, it was a no brainer to give this a try. I have tried it cold with half milk/half water, warm with half milk/half water, and warm with strictly water. I enjoy it each way, but cold with half milk/half water is by far the best. It makes for a refreshing afternoon drink. I have heard of others using coconut milk in place of regular milk, which is my next option. As you can tell, I LOVE THIS TEA. The flavor isn’t overbearing, and it isn’t strong enough to be a turn-off. It has a nice hint of coconut that actually seems to build in intensity the more sips that are taken. It’s not too overbearing and not too subtle, just a happy medium of coconut flavor. The only very minor complaint I have is that the recommended size of ½ teaspoon seems to be too small for my liking so I bump it up to a full teaspoon for my 8oz mug. This is strictly my preference, but may be too strong for other drinkers as I like a fuller bodied cup of tea. I am still working on my first small bag, but will definitely be buying another bigger bag next time around.

Got my red leaf order in the mail last week and was super excited to get their coconut matcha! I am a huge coconut fan and love all things coconut and have just started getting into the world of matcha, so I was waiting anxiously to receive this. One thing I have noticed with some coconut flavored teas and other food items is that they taste very artificial, and that is not the case with this matcha at all. It has a very natural coconut flavoring to it. The flavoring could also be described as a fresh coconut flavor as opposed to toasted coconut flavor. I really enjoy it and will definitely be reordering when this is gone. I don’t have a matcha whisk so I just poured this into a shaker bottle with some coconut milk and shook it up and I had a frothy, creamy, coconut matcha shake! This matcha was definitely high quality and can be found here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/coconut-matcha.html I am already planning my next order. This was also a nice option to have for a cold tea and really easy to make, instead of everything you have to go through for iced tea. There are so many different flavors I am excited to try!

I thought I had mixed Cheesecake with milk and popped it in the fridge, but it turned out it was Coconut. That was a lovely surprise. I actually added just a wee touch of sugar because I find it helps the coconut in cold milk.

Hopefully this will give me the kick I need to finish off studying for my exam on Monday.

VariaTEA

Good luck on Monday!! I have a final on Wednesday and a midterm Thursday but I may be procrastinating by watching Dawson’s Creek. What a ridiculous show. I should be reading too but do not want!

Courtney

Haha it’s so hard at this time of term. I have that exam Monday, then 3 presentations and the papers that go with them all that have to be done before I leave early Thursday. GAH.

VariaTEA

I know that feeling. You will get through it and then you will be rewarded so YAY!

Courtney

Yes! And you will also survive hehe. My finals don’t start until April 14. They go from the first to the last day of the exam period. Of course. :P

VariaTEA

I like how I have a final the day before a midterm. The course also has a paper though so I think the prof is being nice and helping us get something out of the way.

Courtney

That is nice :) Yeah this exam Monday is a midterm. When courses fit in two midterms sometimes I have finals overlapping too.

VariaTEA

I hear you. The midterm Thursday is my second in the course as well. My actual exam period doesn’t start until after the first two weeks in April and it goes until the very last day of the month, though for the first time in forever, I am finishing early (which is good because I need time to move out of my apartment).

EveInOrbit

Tea makes reading coursework more bearable… especially the getting up breaks to make the tea. ;-) Good luck to you and VariaTEA on exams!

Jennkay

Good luck on all your exams, presentations, papers, etc!

Courtney

Thanks ladies! I’m sure we all understand haha.
