These little pellets benefit from short-term aging to make a smooth but sturdy cup to waken the senses and boost energy levels, while the palate is left with hints of chocolate and flowers.

Enjoy multiple steeps to get the most out of your leaves, or try it iced as a refreshing summer sip.

Spring 2017 harvest.

Catching up on some old notes.

I decided to give this a try since I love Golden Snail from Whispering Pines so much. The flavor sadly just doesn’t match up. Its more bitter, less of that warm feeling to it. I know, yeah, really descriptive.

Overall I’m underwhelmed.

I owned the Spring 2019 harvest of this blend and Sil was kind enough to share a sample of the Spring 2020 harvest so I am trying the two side-by-side today.

I started with the 2020 sample, which is a sipdown. It is a very smooth tea. Smooth but no malt. A bit of chocolate maybe. Also like dark rye bread. It’s nice but a bit boring.

The 2019 harvest has more smoke to it, which was certain unexpected. Smoke and a touch of pepper. It also is more brisk but not astringent. Underneath all that, I get a similar smooth dark rye/chocolate. Weird how it varies from harvest to harvest but these are definitely different.

The 2019 harvest certainly had more happening in the cup but I am not convinced that makes it better. Neither is a favourite but I think I liked the simple smoothness of the 2020 harvest. Thank you for sharing, Sil!

Finished up the last of this the other day – tiny cup left for VariaTEA to try and have.

I was super excited to receive a fresh tea sample as part of my gifted August subscription. This is definitely my favourite black tea carried by Tea Runners – the intensely rich full body and absolutely ridiculous amount of natural dark chocolate flavour just blows me away every time I brew it! Aside from the stellar fudge like flavours that dominate the session, I also tend to taste peppered in notes of malt and roasted peanuts – a perfect compliment to such a decadent brew!

this is a robust tea with no need for milk. the chocolate taste is quite strong, but it isn’t a sweet tea. the tea has a slightly astringent aftertaste. i’m drinking a mug on the last day of the decade whilst overlooking the early morning snow.
