78 Tasting Notes

Mango Black, Organic from Praise Tea Company
78

MMM this is good! This tea smells just like it says… mango and black tea! That is what you smell and that is what you taste! When you open up the package, you smell the black tea more than mango but you can still smell the mango.

After the brew the mango is a bit more faint smelling. So when I took my first sip I was surprised by how much I could taste it! It is so good the black tea is smooth and the mango hits you more on the side and back of the mouth. It is really good and I can’t wait to try this iced. I think it would make a great summertime tea.

If you like mango and you want a good black tea this is one you should try.

Earl Grey Russian from The Tea Table
78

Haven’t had much tea this weekend… I was away so when I got back I decided that I wanted to try a new tea and this was it! Upon opening the package it smelled like Christmas to me. I remember one time making an ornament that was an orange and had little cloves stuck in it and then dusted with cinnamon, everyone brought in a different citrus fruit and the room smelled just like this, lots of citrus and cloves yum!

The first sip of this surprised me, I was not sure if I would like this because it sounded kind of boring… nothing to out there. But wow I really liked it, it was very sweet with hints of citrus and I can taste the bergamot as well. This is really good… I I sipped it down pretty quick. When this has cooled it all most tastes like thinned out citrus honey… it is that sweet! I think that this just might be on my re-buy list! Yummy!

Buttered Rum (organic) from DAVIDsTEA
90

Yummy Yummy Yummy! That is all I can say about this tea. I was suppose to get this with my first package of Davids tea but they accidentally sent me a different mix of teas soooo they let me keep that one and then sent me the resolutions kit which has this delicious tea in it. The smell is so yummy! It smells like lifesavers butter rum flavor. I loved those ones. It is buttery, sweet and caramelized coconut.

The liquor was just the perfect color a nice rich dark amber, I truly love that color! The smell is still strong and I can’t wait to sip it. After my first sip I was like ok… this is good, not as powerful as the smell but still really really good.

It is smooth and well rounded, you can taste the sweetness and a touch of the toasted coconut, the base is a great black tea which you can taste and I don’t know how they do it but you can taste the rum and the butter… yum, yum, yum how can you not like that! I am pretty sure that this is going to have to be on the re-buy list!

Garden of Eden from Praise Tea Company

Wow I love love love the smell of this tea, it just screams summer to me. I get peachy mango-ness love from this bag of tea! It is pretty too it bits and pieces of other colors and it sort of looks like there are pieces of confetti!

After the brew the tea was a light orange – amber color, with still a nice strong spicy peach smell. First taste yum, this is a mellow fruity black tea with a bit of astringency at the end. All of the fruit melds together and it is difficult to taste them individually but the main notes to me were peach and mango just as in the smell. The black tea is a nice background for this tea and I know that I am going to love this tea in the summer!

Super Chocolate (organic) from DAVIDsTEA
67

So the name of this tea of course got me, I had to try it! This is my first time having a bit of green rooibos, plus I don’t drink very much green tea because I just haven’t gotten into it yet. The smell was not what I was expecting at all it was sort of fruity but almost in the over-ripened stage. There was also a hint of cinnamon but I did not smell chocolate at all!

The liquor was a pale almost golden orange color really pretty and the brewed leaves were really interesting because it had the rooibos leaves and then the green tea leaves and it was really pretty.

The smell of the tea was still the same if not a bit stronger… I was not sure if I could actually drink it… the smell was very off putting to me. But because the name had chocolate in it I had to at least try it. The first sip was very sweet, much sweeter than i thought it would be. There was a fruity/vegetal taste and then there was the sweetness of cinnamon. But where is the chocolate?

After letting it cool, it is still very sweet with some fruitiness… i can’t really place the smell or the taste. There is some creaminess which I think is the chocolate as well a bit of the sweetness is from the chocolate but there is not much of a chocolate taste that I can tell… I have read that this tea varies quite a bit so maybe this pouch was more fruity than chocolaty. I don’t think that I will buy more of this though it just wasn’t quite what I wanted.

Darjeeling Makaibari Organic Second Flush from The Tea Table
74

Hmmm so this is one of my first serious teas… I am not to sure if I am meant for serious teas! I really enjoy strong fun flavors but anyways here goes this review.

The tea when I open it up smells like black tea… I don’t get very many notes off of it at all. It smells good but just like black tea. After the brewing time, the liquor was a very pale gold color, a lot lighter than I thought it would be espicially for a black tea. but it was pretty, the smell of the leaves still overall had just the simple black tea smell but a hint or two of florals notes.

The first sip I was expecting a lot since darjeeling is suppose to be the champagne of teas so I was a bit underwhelmed. To me it tasted like…. black tea. A bit sweet and it had a bit of astringency to it at the end. After it had cooled, I could taste the floral notes that were a bit sweet, almost fruity. The end of the taste would be a hint of nuttiness or fullness, but it was just a the tiniest bit of nuttiness. I really wanted a bit more nuttiness I think. Anyways it was a good tea just was not overwhelmed by how wonderful it was!

Belgian Chocolate Rooibos from The Tea Table
75

Still on the hunt for a good chocolate tea… This tea smells just like cocoa, with a hint of the woodsy rooibos. There are bits of cocoa bean and some really pretty yellow flower strands.

After the brew, the liquor is of course the nice deep red of a rooibos. It smells mainly like rooibos now, with a hint of chocolate. By the smell, I don’t think that this tea will solve the chocolate hunt.

The firs sip…mmmmm it is pretty creamy and almost minty, with a slight hint of chocolate at the end. The rooibos smells strong but doesn’t taste that strong at all which is the way I prefer it. After a few more sips yup there is a bit of chocolate but the main flavor for me is the end notes that is minty and leaves my mouth refreshed.

After it cools there is a bit more chocolate flavor, so if that is what you are looking for let it cool a bit! This for me is a nice tea, I enjoy the blend but it doesn’t solve my craving for chocolate.
Bourbon Vanilla from Praise Tea Company
71

I love the smell of teas! They are all so different! This one to me smells like vanilla with a hint of citrus or orange to me. I don’t really smell the bourbon. But I could definitely smell the vanilla which I love!

After the brew, the smell is more black tea than anything else. It is a pretty dark amber color that I love! First sip, hmmmm tastes mainly like ….black tea :) but there is a slight sweetness at the end. After a few more sips yep that is about all I taste so I decide to let it cool a bit.

Now I can taste the vanilla and a hint of bourbon, and the flavors meld very nicely. This is a very subtle tea that has a bit of astringency at the end. It is good but not sure if it will be on my re-buy list.

Hot Buttered Banana Bread from 52teas
87

Mmmm this smells so delish! It is a bit lighter on the banana than Monkey Fart and you can smell the butter as well as walnuts! Yummy!

After the steep, all I can really smell is the bananas maybe a hint of walnut but that could be because I just want to smell that, the whole house smells like bananas :)
It is a pretty light amber color for a black tea.

The first sip, I was confused, the smell is so strong but the taste not so much?!?! The first sip is a pretty mellow black tea with hints of bananas. I take another sip and sure enough you can taste the banana and it is juicy, as well as hints of something else, I think it is the butter or walnuts, whatever it is it tastes good!

This is a really mellow tea, the flavors blend together really nicely and you can taste the tea which sometimes gets lost in the flavors but not this one! After letting it cool a bit the flavors are more prominent and I really, really really like it. I think that I really enjoy a bananas in my tea, maybe Frank could do a banana creme pie flavor!

Pina Colada Honeybush from 52teas
92

Holy toledoes Frank does this smell good! I can smell the rum, the pinapple and the coconut and when you look in the bag you see huge chunks of pinapple and slices of cocnut. It is so beautiful. I feel as if I am on a island watching the waves lapping against the shore!

I wanted to drink this iced so a doubled the amount and brewed it up. It is a pretty light golden color, reminds me of ginger ale.

First sip, yes, yes, yes this is soooo good! It is smooth and kind of creamy you can taste the rum flavor and the coconut and at the end a nice hint and tang of the pinapple. This is so good! You have to try this.

On another note Frank if you are reading this, I love your packaging and pictures the one thing though that I really like is when you have the instructions on the package! This one doesn’t and I noticed some others that don’t so I have to then look on another package… it’s just sort of an inconvience, but I wouldn’t change anything else!

Love Tea #7 from DAVIDsTEA
74

I really really love the smell of this tea. When you open it up it smells just like strawberries dipped in chocolate, yum, yum, yum! There is a slight hint of floral but really the strawberry and chocolate stand out.

After steeping the color of the liquor is lighter than I thought, it is still a nice amber color but on the lighter side.

First taste was not what I expected… all I could taste was the black tea… I really really wanted to taste the strawberries and chocolate but all I tasted was the black tea. Not that this is a bad thing just not what I was expecting.

After it cooled a bit I could taste just a hint of chocolate and strawberries and I could really smell the florals in it but I could not taste the floral notes at all. I am going to have to brew this a couple of times and see if can’t get the strawberries and chocolate to pop more.

Chocolate Puerh from Numi Organic Tea
42

Last sample from SimplyJenW… so much fun to trade with others! She threw this one in because she knows that I like chocolate… Well I absolutely loved the smell of this from the bag… it was a deep warm vanilla, chocolate, earthy smell. I almost wanted not to steep it because it smells so delicious.

After steeping the liquor is a really really dark amber color almost coffee color. The smell still has really earthy smell and not quite as sweet smelling now, more of a true dark real unsweetened cocoa smell with bits of cinnamon.

The first taste I was kind of disappointed… the smell is so much better than the taste to me. The earthiness comes out… I have never had a Puerh before, so not sure if this is how all of these teas taste but I feel as if this tea has to many flavors in it. You can smell the vanilla, and cinnamon, can even taste those a bit, but you also taste the unsweetened chocolate and then the earthiness… For me this mixture does not make sense.

After letting it cool a bit the flavors seem to meld a bit more and they are not so bad but I have to say that I think I won’t be buying this tea. I loved trying it though!

Champagne from DAVIDsTEA
71

What an interesting tea… I can’t really decide if I like it or not?!?! The smell that comes off of the loose leaves is a light green vegetable smell with hints of raspberry. It smells good to me, but I was expecting more of a grape smell. Plenty of whole leaves here very pretty!

After the steep, the liquor is a pale, pale, golden color, the smell is more vegetable now, with a hint of fizz? Not sure how they do that but it is interesting!

The first taste, was sweet! Much sweeter than I thought it was going to be. That is why I love tea, lots and lots of surprises! Anyways, after the first taste it left a floral taste in my mouth, and then just a touch of astringency which I definitely was not expecting that from a white tea.

After a few more sips I can taste a bit of juiciness from the berries and just a hint of grape, but mainly I get sweetness, and floral notes, with a bit of greenness. Even after finishing the cup and on the second one, I still just don’t know if I really like the mix?!?! I don’t know how many more cups I will drink. Might have to try this another day.

Glitter & Gold from DAVIDsTEA
92

This is such a beautiful tea!! When you get a scoop you get pretty little gold balls that shimmer next to the black tea. The smell is extremely cinammon! So strong that I was worried that it would be to much cinammon, but once again I was fooled.

After the steep, the liquor is a dark dark tea with beautiful shimmer and sparkle, a starry night for sure, it really is pretty, it allowed me to take a moment and admire the tea. The smell is still really strong cinnamon.

The first sip it was surprisingly smooth, and mellow. This is a tea to drink if you need comfort. The cinammon is not spicy at all, it is a sweet cinammon which I love. It is almost a vanilla cinammon flavor to me. This is really good and I love how beautiful this tea is, it would be fun to serve this to friends! This is going to be a keeper for sure.

Vanilla Oolong from DAVIDsTEA
74

Hmmm this is an interesting tea, I have not had very many oolong teas but this one is nice. The smell is vegetal with some sweetness, not sure if I really care for the smell or not. brewed it up and it is a nice light gold color.

The smell of the liquor is much stronger now, it almost smells like sweet spinach, yuck. After smelling it I was not sure if I going to like this tea at all. I hesitantly took a sip and was totally surprised.

It was sweet and definately vanilla, yum… and it was buttery, not really vegetal at all just a nice buttery sweet taste. It was very smooth and I drank this very quickly, and was sad that I was at the end of the cup. I did not get any orange at all but if you like sweetness try this, it is pretty darn good.

Creme Caramel Rooibos from DAVIDsTEA
89

I have had a such a great tea day! All of my teas were so yummy! This tea is not exception…
The smell is just like a homemade caramel with a bit of woodsy scent from the rooibos. I was not sure the caramel would flatter the taste of rooibos but boy was I wrong.

After the brewing the woodsy scent had dissipated and you could smell the warm caramel. it was a beautiful red amber color. First absolutely perfection in a cup! This is such a good dessert tea, it had a nice mouthfeel and was smooth and creamy and sweet. You can taste the rooibos but it is very subtle which is nice, sometimes the woodsy taste is to much… but this has such a smooth taste.

If you want a dessert tea that has no caffeine and you like caramel this is a tea you must try!

Peaches & Ginger from Harney & Sons
93

Finally a great peach ginger tea! I have to say thank you so much to SimplyJenW for sending me a sample of this tea. When you open up the bag, you can smell a great mix of peaches and ginger as well as black tea. Just by smelling this tea it makes me relax.

I followed Jens instructions for 1tsp per cup and steep for 3 min. It turned out perfectly. The smell after brewing was a nice warm peach with a bit of zing from the ginger, the black tea makes a nice background for the peaches and ginger to play.

The first taste was so peachy and just what I thought a ginger peach tea should taste like. The tea had a juiciness but at the same time it just a bit of astringent feeling in the mouth at the end. Really, really good!

Strawberry Pie Honeybush from 52teas
92

Wow this is one strawberry tea! Yum Yum Yum. When you open the package that is about all you can smell… the tail end of the smell is a bit of cinnamon and maybe just a hint of crust!

After steeping it the liquor was a nice warm red color, the smell had a more hints of cinnamon with strawberry. The first taste all I could taste was strawberry nice warm strawberries. It was so good, this tea doesn’t need any sweetener, it is wonderfully sweet!

The next few sips were a lot of strawberry and hints of cinnamon… I didn’t get the buttery flavor but this tea is still wonderful! I might play around with the steeping time and see if I can get the buttery taste to come out more, great job Frank!

Goji Pop from DAVIDsTEA
74

So I decided to try this tea today after my workout…iced… It smells like a strawberry lemonade with a hint of something else… not sure what that is but it smells really good.

After brewing it was a pale pinkish color really pretty! The smell was still strawberry lemonade to me… The first taste was a bit tart and tasted to me just like it smelled. But there is still that something else I would guess it is the Goji berry because I have never had it. This tea is good I don’t know if I would buy another bag but it is good and fruity! It will hit the spot on a hot day.

Forever Nuts from DAVIDsTEA
84

Ok I have to say the name got me on this one. I thought why not get it… Upon the first smell it smelled liked stuffed baked apples- you know where you put a walnut buttery, cinnamon mix inside an apple and bake it… yup that is what this smells like to me! Smells nice and warm and delicious!

After steeping it had a bit more apple smell but still smelled really nutty. The first taste did remind me of apple cider although a bit weak. Overall I enjoyed this tea I just wish it would taste more like the smell… I wanted more of the buttery and nutty flavor but all I mainly tasted was the apple. Maybe next time I will steep for a shorter amount of time.

Zing Me from DAVIDsTEA
93

Yummy, that is about all I can say for this tea. I really have been impressed with Davids Tea so far! I do have to say that I am all about flavored teas at the moment soooo most of my reviews are about flavored teas, one of these days I will start to learn how to enjoy other teas!

The tea smells like apricots and a bit of ginger before the steeping. After the steeping I can smell the tea a bit but it smells much more like apricots than anything.

The first taste of this tea tastes just as it smells, lots of apricot deliciousness with some nice juiciness at the end. It is pretty smooth and ends with just a bit of ginger at the end. I find that my tea is a bit astringent but I think that next time I lessen the brew time. This is really good and I am going to get more before they run out! Even though I really really don’t need anymore tea but this is awesome!

Fantasy Island from DAVIDsTEA
99

WOW oh WOW! This is soooooo good! So this is my second Davids Tea and this is so amazing! When you open up the package it smells like a Raspberry Twinkie (the pink one with coconut on it). I brewed it for 5 min. and it was perfect.

The smell was still like a raspberry coconut treat, and I was hoping the taste would be just as good as the smell. Boy was I not disappointed, it was wonderful and it just took me away. I had a spicy lunch and was wanting something sweet and this cured my craving. I am going to have order more of this for sure! This is great if you like dessert teas you will not be disappointed!

Cocomama Lime from DAVIDsTEA
87

Well first things first, I ordered several different teas from Davids Tea and I absolutely love the sample tins they send… it is perfect to store for on the go! Anyways I ordered some of the kit teas and the accidentally sent me the wrong one. After writing to them they responded quite promptly and told me to keep the kit and they were going to send me the other kit and some more samples…:) They were so nice talk about service!

Ok on to the tea,
I loved the smell of this tea, you can smell the lime and then a hint of coconut sweetness, can’t really smell the tea but for me that is ok! :)

Before brewing it, I decided that I mainly wanted to try this iced..so I made sure to double the amount and brewed it for 6min.. the most for this tea. Poured it over ice and took it to school with me. The tea smelled like limes and hint of tea, I lost the smell of the coconut after steeping. I had a bit left in the tea maker and sipped it. It was good but kind of strange drinking warm lime?!?! It was also a bit astringent, but I think that next time I will brew for 5 min. Thought for sure this was going to be much better iced.

When I got to school I took a sip and WOW this was so refreshing iced. I highly recommend this tea if you like limes. It is like drinking a bit of tea with a smoothness or hint of sweetness from the coconut (can’t really taste the coconut) and then the pop of lime. It is really good almost like limeaid! Yum Yum Yum

Vanilla Cream from Butiki Teas
84

Wow this is really good! I would buy more of this for sure! It’s scent is a nice warm vanilla with a touch of sweetness.
It was a great dessert tea, since it is honeybush and no caffeine, I drank it on a cold windy rainy night and it just warmed me up. The taste is a creamy vanilla (duh) that has a bit of fullness which I like. This is in my top 5 of vanilla cream for sure it is really good try it you won’t be sorry!

Profile

Bio

I have been wanting to drink tea for about a year now. I love the idea of tea but I go through times when I don’t drink any…. I know that it is good for me but sometimes I just don’t make it. I think that finding a place like this will help me remember to drink happiness! I have really only tried Teavanna teas and have a whole cupboard full of them. I recently just bought a few teas from other companies and are waiting impatiently for them! :)

I tend to like fruity teas or spicy, sweet teas. I like them to have lots and lots of flavor. I am looking the ultimate chocolate tea and the ultimate coconut tea. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This forum looks like such a friendly and warm place, I can’t wait to learn more and more about tea as well as enjoy all of the different kinds.
