Sencha Extra Green (with Matcha)

Green Tea by Den's Tea

Blending Sencha with Matcha is very popular in Japan. In some products the blending is done to mask the low quality of the Sencha. Our blend uses premium quality Sencha and Matcha resulting in a tea that is flavorful for both the first and second cup.

Origin: Sencha: Shizuoka/Matcha: Nishio
Harvest: First Flush 2010
Species: Yabukita

Tasting Profile:
You can enjoy two flavors. Matcha’s sweetness with the first cup and Sencha’s fresh flavor with the second cup.

Leaves: 2 grams or 1 rounded teaspoon
Steep: 60 sec
2nd Cup: Water boiled ; Steep 15 sec

This came as the tea for their Lucky Gold Tea. The color is a lime green which is surprising because of the matcha. This is a sweeter version of mecha. The matcha gives it a lovely, thick mouth feel. The one thing I can’t figure out though, is if this is just premium sencha dusted w/ matcha why are the steeping parameters different from those of premium sencha? I’ve also never seen a tea that is suggested to be steeped for a shorter time for the 2nd infusion so that’ll be interesting…

Double cup using premium sencha perameters- 1 TB tea/4oz water. As this is steeping it almost looks like a layered jello salad. The leaves are laying on the bottom of my ingenuity under the cloudy liquid which is topped by light green foam.

HOLY ASTRINGENCY! This definitely has pucker power. My tongue literally folds over on itself adding to the mouth feel that the matcha gives it. This would most definitely wake you up in the morning!

I received 10g of this, as it was recently the “sample of the month”. 10g is such a big amount of tea to give away for free! It’s enough for at least 4 (4oz) cups!

Anyway, the matcha makes this tea very intense. I can see why I’m not a regular matcha drinker — not that I don’t think it’s delicious, because it is — but because as soon as I took the first few sips, I could already feel it!

The matcha adds a nice, intensity — sweetness and even marine flavors — to the already well-balanced sencha. The 2nd and third steepings were yummy too. I try to limit caffeine intake, so I’m not sure I’d buy 2oz of this, but I’d consider it, because it’s like two different teas in one and I enjoy both. (Plus, its an easy way to get to drink matcha without having to buy all the other fiddely tools)

This was so flavorful. I was really excited when I saw the matcha mixed in there. I love whole green tea leaves mixed with matcha. This was a nice bright green brew. Delicious with a hint of astringency at the end of my cup. Very good overall!

I finished this up today. It was a good tea! I love the matcha in here and the bright green brew! Very colorful and very much like spring. It is a bit astringent, even with my shorter steep time. Overall, a good green tea. Not my favorite though. The only other matcha green blend that I’ve tried and absolutely love is genmaicha with extra matcha.

This was my first authentic green tea. I liked it and am enjoying each cup a little more. I’ve been using too little tea for the amount of water, so I’m looking forward to my next session. Even with the amount I’ve been using, the cup has been flavorful and the 2nd steeping has been almost as good as the first. I don’t have much to compare it to yet, but it is quite mild in comparison to the astringent Mecha (http://www.denstea.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=102_116) I’ve also tried.
