From Grey's Teas

Considered to be one of the most effective natural sedatives, valerian is known to relieve the effects of anxiety and calms where there is insomnia, irritability and tension. It does not have the hangover effects of many synthetic sleep inducing medications. Infuse in hot, not boiling water.

OMG! Dry…this smells like butt. Seriously. I’m not even joking.

Post infusion…it smells like a rare flower I can’t pick my finger on and the roots of trees…and maybe a bit of root beer.

It has a mellow flavor…almost lemon verbena esque and a bit of root beer flavor.

I have to admit it’s a bit harsh getting past the dry aroma but overall the taste isn’t bad for an herbally-herbal tisane.

(I’m now unplugging my nose – virtually)
Oye!

Bonnie

Eoooouuuuu! P U!

TeaBrat

Valerian root is very smelly!

Daisy Chubb

I can only handle it in blends. Minty blends to take over the butt. Overwhelm the butt. Conquer the butt.

Missy

butt conquering lol

Hesper June

Ewwwww!!! Serve it to un-wanted Guests ;)

TeaEqualsBliss

LOL @ you all! At least I’m not the only one who thinks it smells like BUTT :)

Missy

You might just be able to leave it out so the unwanted guests just stay away…

CHAroma

I tried this once and immediately spit it out. Couldn’t get it past the gag reflex. Blech!

TeaBrat

It’s better when it’s in pill form, lol! Does help me to sleep.

Missy

I agree it’s really good for getting some nice z’s.

mpierce87

Lol- I have valerian capsules and I always think they smell like majorly stinky feet.

Janefan

Valerian is the only herb that seems to help me sleep. I saw some loose at an herb/tea shop recently, but couldn’t bring myself to buy it due to the smell! Good to know that’s normal, at least (and that it doesn’t taste as bad as it smells!). But, I’m not sure what a whole cup of it (instead of the small amount in a sleep tea blend, or herbal pill) would do to me!

Kittenna

Hahaha, I think I’ll be avoiding valerian root if that’s how it smells! Major yuck!

Ninavampi

I can’t stand Valerian Root, so gross and stinky… Now I will have to avoid it at all costs, it will immediately bring up the word BUTT in my brain… hahaha…

OrganicOswald

This stuff smells like decaying, rancid feet! Also, the stronger the odour, the higher the quality!
