Organic Matcha Cermonial

Green Tea by LeafSpa Organic Tea

Our ceremonial Matcha is a premium quality finely-powdered green tea which is whisked during the brewing process and consumed as a frothy beverage rather than filtering out the leaves that is done in virtually all other tea preparation. The cultural activity called the Japanese tea ceremony centers on the preparation, serving, and drinking of matcha. In modern times, matcha has also come to be used to flavor and dye foods such as soba noodles and green tea ice cream. The health benefits of green tea and specifically matcha have raised significant interest in North America. Consequently, it can now be found in numerous health food products ranging from cereal to energy bars. In 2003, researchers from the University of Colorado found that the concentration of the antioxidant EGCG available from drinking matcha is up to 137 times greater than the amount of EGCG available from other commercially available green teas.

Koicha is going so well now that I’m sifting, I had to make it w/ this. To my surprise it sifts faster than my other matchas (1 min instead of 2)… but it is quite bitter… :( That makes me sad.

And my 1st yr. on steepster comes to a close. Celebrating w/ matcha OJ!

Not feeling well emotionally or physically today so I decided to pack my OJ w/ extra matcha. 1TB/8oz OJ. Not sure what brand mom bought this time, but it looks different… thicker… more opaque. It tastes different too. I don’t think it’s just cuz of the matcha. It tastes… creamier? Yes… more like a matcha dreamsicle… strange…

Mocha Matcha Latte!

1TB matcha
1TB drinking chocolate mix
8oz Fat Free Smart Balance Milk
4oz water

Needed something sweet, yet detoxifying after my AMAZING Russian meal I stumbled upon. Originally went out for a perch fry, but found that the cafe was featuring Russian items! pork and sourkraut soup, (basically a chicken dumpling soup w/ carrots and potatoes w/ sourkraut and pork in place of the chicken), Cabbage rolls (but not as good as my best friend’s mom’s), cole slaw, and a potatoe roll. It warmed my heart to have a Russian meal and think of my Russian best friend, especially since I didn’t think there was any Russian food to be had in our area.

Another Koicha attempt. I actually remembered to weigh the 1tsp of matcha I used and it weighs 1.89g… so WHY does wikipedia say 1tsp should weigh ~3.75g?! Anyway… It’s less bitter this time but that’s to be expected since it is, after all, Koicha. Kinda like the difference between dark and milk chocolate. Unfortunately it didn’t whisk very well inspite of not taking very long to be sifted.

I’ve had a rough 3 days all around… physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and even sleep wise. Last night specifically my dog got me up in the middle of the night cuz she had to go to the bathroom and I was awake early… but luckly Madison, my dog, let me lay in bed for quite awhile. At 9am my phone rings and it’s my best friend Irina. She’s never called me in the morning before so I instantly know why she’s calling. Yep, I was right! As of last night, she and her boyfriend Brock are engaged! Seeing as she loves all things organic and drinks matcha frequently (although unfortunately just for the health benefits… she hasn’t found her love for it yet), I made a full chawan of this- 16 ounces! I haven’t had a full chawan at once since I got it back in Jan. This is also the best I’ve gotten it to froth- almost EXACTLY like at the cafe I had matcha at for the 1st time. It’s a great day! Congrats Irina and Brock!

2.5tsp matcha/20oz bottle Yumberry Pomegranate SoBe Life Water. James Bond style. Wow! This is pretty good. I’m glad I’m finding more and more ways to flavor matcha so I like it cold. Although… the reason I’m drinking this is to attempt to salvage this water. Why the heck is this so sweet when there are no sweeteners listed in the ingredients? It’s still sweet even this way.

BUT BE WARNED! The combo of the water & matcha look NASTY! lol

Heartwise Matcha OJ! I need to get some green olives and vodka for a matcha screwdriver.

Wow… what a week! It was a wonderful week, but it’s nice to be able to sleep past 6:30am again. I was so busy, I didn’t even take time to make iced tea- and didn’t even have matcha every day! I had a family reunion Sat. after I came home so I didn’t take time to drink tea til yesterday afternoon. 1tsp in 1 cup of Minute Maid Heartwise OJ, James Bond style. My favorite way to have cold matcha!

I think only I would think matcha OJ goes well w/ a ham & hummus sandwhich.

Matcha serving #1 of the day: Heartwise Matcha OJ… why must something so yummy look so nasty?

Decided to make my detoxifying matcha (1TB/12oz water) in my Seattle mug w/ this today. Didn’t sift it because the bottom of my sifter was below the water line… I suppose I should have sifted it 1st then added water, but I used my mug to heat the water. Oh well. Surprisingly it’s not at all bitter this time! I guess 1tsp/4oz water is the perfect ratio, even if you don’t sift it… which is kinda sad though since that isn’t the ratio for Koicha.

I had an egg roll and rice Lean Cuisine so I went for the most obvious beverage- Koicha! 1tsp sifted and 40ml hot water added and then whisked. I need to have this at a Chado Ceremony though, it’s always just a bit chalky when I make it.

Matcha OJ this morning in spite of it being INSANELY cold and windy.

I knew after my matcha OJ on Saturday I’d only have 12oz left so I skipped it yesterday and had 12oz today as I knew I wouldn’t get to the store yesterday. Added 2tsp and shook well. I prefer a 1tsp:8oz ratio, especially with stronger matchas, but as this one is lighter, it worked well.

Matcha OJ before lunch.

I can almost feel the plant sterols melting away my cholesterol… Ok, well maybe not, maybe Matcha OJ is just that yummy=D

Matcha OJ w/ 2 vanilla Fiber One yogurts to hold me til dinner.

Added a tsp to the Raspberry V8 V-Fusion +Tea. Luckily the color wasn’t as nasty as I expected, but I really couldn’t taste the matcha either. I need a stronger tasting matcha.
