Jasmine Pearl

Green Tea by Octavia Tea

100% organic green tea (tin)

One of the finest teas in the world, Jasmine Pearl is perfumed with the intoxicating fragrance of fresh jasmine and hand-rolled into pearls that bloom in your cup. Jasmine tea is said to lower cholesterol, ease anxiety and promote well being.

Jasmine Pearl is one of the world’s finest delicacies and most prized teas. Octavia Tea’s Jasmine Pearl is made by infusing hand-rolled tealeaves with fresh jasmine flowers. It takes nearly 2,000 hand-plucked tealeaves to fill a single tin. After harvesting, the tealeaves are layered with more than 10 times their weight in jasmine flowers, which bloom in the cool night air and leave behind their intoxicating fragrance. It takes more than 10 pounds of flowers to make 1 pound of Jasmine Pearl tea. Although the jasmine flowers are removed from the final product, the sweet, soothing scent remains—absorbed in the leaves themselves.

DRY these “little balls” smell like jasmine AND Citrus for some reason…I am picking up citrus…hum…

Once wet or even after infusion it’s all about the Jasmine, folks, scent-wise. The taste is very crisp and clean and sweet…not bitter-jasmine but sweet-jasmine! This is VERY good! Of course…I tried something a little different! I used to try between 6 and 10 “balls” but this time I used about 15 or 16 and it’s wonderful! YUM!

These are excellent pearls, I am very impressed by the fact that I poured the pearls out into my hand to examine them and there were very few broken and/or crushed tea leaf particles amongst the very uniform sized and shaped pearls. Quite often when I come across a jasmine pearl the leaves have some “leaf debris” … broken bits and pieces of leaf that end up sifting their way through the lid of the gaiwan and ending up in my strainer. (I strain the tea “twice” – once through the lid, which I then pour through a strainer, so I do not end up with these errant bits in my cup)

And the flavor is divine! A good balance of flavor – the tea tastes light and a touch buttery while the jasmine is sweet. No sharp or artificial jasmine notes. Nice.

Doing a bit of mixing…this plus an earl grey black tea.

The last of this tasty sample. Grandpa-style in a bowl. Delicious way to drink tea.

I just tossed a few of these pearls in with a re-steeping of English Tea Store’s Angels’ Dream tea. I was hoping that the floral, green tea flavour will meld wonderfully with the blackberry and maple flavours.
Perhaps it was not a wonderful melding, but it certainly is different and tasty.

Grandpa style!
