Gunpowder Green (loose leaf)

Sushi and a solid green tea on a Saturday night . Can’t really say more I mean it had a strong more consistant taste than other greens I’ve had before. It didn’t really smell too strong but it did smell good. Can’t go wrong with green tea and sushi , just a stellar combination, these japenese people are so smart.

My experience with Twinings has been that, regardless of the variety or blend, I can always count on a solid nice tasting tea at a very reasonable price. Such is the case with the Gunpowder Green tea.

This tea, when steeped at 195 degrees for three minutes, produced a color similar to apple cider. The flavor was a full green tea taste without any bitterness whatsoever.

I’m not a huge green tea fan, but I do enjoy the finer teas of this classification. I would definitely add this selection to that list. The little rolled up pre-steeped tea “pellets” (from which the “gunpowder” name originates) are fun too!

Got a New Amount of My Second Favorite Tea
Twinings Gunpowder Green.
Steeped a 6 Cup Pot To Reacquaint Myself with this Favorite.
Dry Leaves have a Great Earthy smell suggesting a pungent liquor.
A 2 Min. Steep in 205’ Water delivers the anticipated pleasure.
The liquor is a Clear Dark Green, with a Slight Earthy Smell.
The Taste delivers the Green Earth infused in the Leaves.
No wonder this is My 2nd Favorite. Guess I’ll Continue to
Keep On Steepin.

I’ve owned a tin of this tea before, but for some reason, never tried it. Fortunately, grocery stores stock it quite regularly, so it was pretty easy to get another tin.

The leaves are quite detailed and twisted, with a distinct steely cool gunpowder scent.

Steeping gives the leaves a warmer and very surprising aroma, very fine quality and greatly enjoyable to just take in.

The brew is a very deep earthy green color, with an equally earthy green tea scent.

The flavor is extremely earthy, with a nice strong toasted green tea taste and little astringency. It isn’t too strong, a nice stable straight flavor.

The strength is enough to make you aware, but overall mellow enough to keep you relaxed. Although the leaves were more interesting, the brew was more than enjoyable.

I need some energy after rushing around like a mad person making sure my house is fit for the arrival of my new sofa tomorrow. This tea looked like a good choice to do the job.

This tea does not have any sweetener for the clarity of the taste test. Also the preparation details are exactly as the boxes instructions indicate.

Colour: Dark honey colour with a slight dark red tinge
Smell: Very fresh and strong with a smell that reminds me of the end of autumn.

It’s been a while since I last drank this.
For some reason I decided this would make a good iced tea, so I cold brewed it.

To be honest, it isn’t bad.
The unsweetened brew gave a distinct green tea smell, and the distinct green tea taste.
It’s alright, but it’s just so bland, none of the wow you usually get from drinking hot greens.
But! I decided to add some sugar to it, about a teaspoon or so (beats me why I did that, though)
And the result? I have to say, the sugar really enhances the tea, but doesn’t overwhelm it.

I guess I’ll be having the rest of this tin iced, since it’s so good this way.

So the other day my friend’s and I went to the local tea house. I had chai tea to drink but bought about 2 ounces of the Gunpowder Green tea.

The Chinese name for this tea is call zhū chá which means “pearl tea or bead tea”. It derives it’s name form it’s similar appearance to gunpowder.

Tea steeped from Gunpowder has a dark golden color. To me was a toasted grassy, minty, or peppery taste. With an aftertaste lingering in the front palette, and a smokey aroma.

In reading on this tea, I found it rather interesting that Gunpowder tea is a pivotal part of making Touareg tea in Moroccan tea ritual.

Common names for this tea: chun mee, or zhu cha.

165°F/75-80°C.

I have a sore throat and was craving tea. I just bought this a few days ago and made my first pot today. I use a Cuisinart TEA-100 PerfecTemp Programmable Tea Steeper & Kettle which by the way is the best invention since sliced bread and the easiest way to make tea. I give it 5 stars.

Sorry for rambling, about the tea: I added a teaspoon of honey to my cup while I waited for the tea to finish and then poured the tea in. I cautiously tested the temperature, like most hot beverages it burnt my tongue so I added a little bit maybe 1 oz of cold tap water.

It’s delicious and perfect for a sore throat. I’m a beginner when it comes to tea and I don’t really know how to rate/describe the taste and smell. All I can say is that it smelled like green tea and tasted like green tea and honey.

Also, because my Cuisinart has a two cup minimum I always make 2 cups at a time using ~2tsps and then resteep the leaves if I want more. I usually don’t drink more than 4 cups a day.

This tea was my first in buying loose leaf tea. I saw it in the grocery store….I had a tea strainer I got as a gift but had never used. It’s a great option for gunpowder teas. It’s got that light smokiness that you would expect from a gunpowder and at a great price too and you can find it almost anywhere.

I haven’t had Gunpowder Green for quite a long time and I have no idea why I have gone so long without it.

This is good and high quality tea. Gunpowder tea is very unique and rich flavor. Smell is very pleasant. Taste is very velvety and there is no bitterness at all! Instant favorite tea I will buy more!

This stuff is delicious!

A very nice mellow green tea. It produced a golden liquor which tasted a little like apple and fresh grass. An enjoyable experience. This is also great for making Kombucha!

Just a decent tea to have when you just need to have some decent tea. Probably my favorite of Twinning’s loose-leaf tins, though I’ve yet to try the Prince of Wales Tea. Tastes like vegetables sprinkled with gunpowder.

I leave this green tea infuse a little longer.
Thus, the strength of green tea helps out nicely for lunch. I even think it helps to digest.

The second green tea I ever had. It is no longer up in the top 5, but I like it enough to use for sentiment sake.

My absolute favorite for a green tea (plain, that is). The leaves are good quality leaves, and whole too, and they unfurl after the first infusion. It has a delicious, vegetal flavor, but be wary: The instructions tell you to steep it for 5 minutes, which makes it much too bitter. Between 2 and 4 minutes seems to be where the sweet spot is. Otherwise, I really recommend this tea! It works for about 2 to 3 infusions for me.

I was affraid it was too old but it still ok.
