Plum Deluxe Hanukkah Sampler (caffeine-free) – Night 1
Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate! With the website acting up, I don’t think it makes sense to create new entries for teas that are sampler/advent/countdown one-offs, so I’m just going to put those all under Random Steepings.
I got both versions of PD’s Hanukkah sampler this year, with and without caffeine. So I figure I’ll do the herbals at night and caffeinated during the day. They’re not numbered, more like a regular sampler/variety pack. I’m going to try to avoid looking, though! The herbal I pulled out tonight is called “Eight Nights Herbal.” The name is cute but I’m not really sure what makes this blend Hannukah-y other than the name. The ingredients are basically rooibos, apple pieces, lemongrass, cherries, plums, and blue mallow. Mostly I’m getting “apple rooibos” from this, with a gentle lingering citrus note from the lemongrass. Tasty! Just doesn’t really match the name.

Happy Hanukkah! Are there certain flavours you think would be more reminiscent for this tea? I’m interested to learn more. :)
Thanks! I think the pinnacle of Hanukkah blends is still Butiki’s Latkes & Applesauce and Potato Pancakes & Applesauce. She really did something amazing with the potato in those blends – a touch of salt bringing out the savory potato notes and a touch of sweetener leaning it more towards the sweet applesauce flavor. Truly the only way it could have been better is if it was kosher. DavidsTea’s Jelly Donut, while neither kosher nor explicitly labeled as a Hanukkah tea, is actually a great holiday flavor because sufganiyot (fried jelly donuts) are a big holiday food. Special shoutout to The Tea Spot for having a bunch of kosher-certified blends – none that are necessarily holiday themed but I appreciate the sheer variety!
I’m not even slightly surprised that a Butiki blend would be the best haha! Thanks for sharing, this is super neat. I honestly wouldn’t have even considered teas being kosher, that’s so great that a company has kosher-certified options!
We have a Jewish bakery a few hours away where we pick up vegan donuts and they have sufganiyot this time of year. If we make a trip soon, I’ll have to see if they make them vegan to try them!

Ooh, sounds delightful! They probably do have vegan options, since kosher sufganiyot are often made parve (i.e. without meat or dairy ingredients). Let us know if they have them!
