1118 Tasting Notes

Since it’s Christmas Eve I thought I’d spend the day drinking my favorite winter/holiday teas. So, of course I’m starting off with Oktoberfest. :) Truly, this is a very nice winter tea. It’s thick and heavy with notes of malt and grain. It’s fortifying and comforting at the same time. Plus, on these cold dark days it’s just the thing to get me up and moving. Oh, and it’s delicious, too.

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 15 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

If someone had never tried tea before and I could only share one tea with them I think it would be North Winds. It’s delicious and simple in the very best way. The chocolate and fruity notes settle on the tongue, and the hint of spice lingers after the sip. It’s just good. It’s a tea you can have long conversations around – conversations that might have nothing to do with tea – but the fact that you had really lovely tea stays with you after the talking has ended. I adore teas that stay in my memory that way.

I recently bought a few teas from Whispering Pines. North Winds wasn’t one of them, but it might have to be a future purchase. It sounds so comforting and delicious. :)

drank Black Dragon Pearl by Teavana
1118 tasting notes

I found out that the woman who was my son’s one to one aid at school is a tea drinker. She worked with my son for six years, and is just about the sweetest woman on the planet. She’s working with another child this year, but since I just found out about her love of tea I had to get her some for Christmas. She told me she is a Teavana fan, so I picked up some of this and one of their ceramic tumblers for her. Since I was already buying some I also picked up an ounce for myself. Because tea.

This is really nice. There’s a strong chocolate flavor along with some malt and leather. I used three pearls for my eight ounce cup, and I’ve resteeped the leaves twice. I’m pretty sure I can get at least two more steeps before the leaves are spent.

I wish I had some of Teavivre’s Dragon Pearls on hand so I could do a side by side tasting. I’ll have to do that at some point.

P.S. I’m also giving her North Winds from Whispering Pines and Earl Grey Cream from Zen Tea. Because tea.

Because tea is the best reason I’ve seen all day. :)

always so pleasant to find out people to share about tea. Funny when we discover them “just around the corner”

I discovered some tea drinkers among the 11-year-old girls in my Sunday school class yesterday. If I can figure out what to do with the bull-in-the-china-closet boys, we may need to have us a January tea party!

Whoa, this is a cup of yum! It’s smooth – almost creamy – with notes of malt, sweet potato, orange (maybe orange zest?), and cocoa. I drank the first cup plain and the resteep with cream and sugar. Both were delicious.

This one’s going on my wishlist.

Thank you, Ost for sending this my way! It’s great! :)

I liked this one too. Happy you like it!! :D

drank Moroccan Mint by Teavana
1118 tasting notes

This is a decent Moroccan Mint. The smokiness of the gunpowder green tea and the spearmint pair well together. I like that there’s no peppermint in the blend. The green tea is easier to taste with just one mint.

Preparation
190 °F / 87 °C 2 min, 30 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

Does it smell like toothpaste? I have a huge bag of spearmint, and I have to keep myself from smelling the leaves if I use it for anything.

drank Almond Sugar Cookie by Wegmans

This is a fun little tea. Lots of almond flavor, and some cookie-like notes as well. I add cream and sugar which takes this from a nice tea to a full blown treat. Happy me! :)

I adore this one – I went back to Wegmans and got a bigger baggie of it I was so into it. I know it is seasonal, so I have to force myself not to hoard like a freak. I have more than enough delicious tea haha.

gmathis

Would love to check out a Wegman’s…they aren’t nearly as far west as they should be ;)

Veronica

Wegman’s is a dangerous place. I’ve never been a fan of grocery shopping, but I love that store… and spend way too much money there.

Veronica

@Leah – I did the same thing! It may be seasonal, but I’d be just as happy drinking this in May as I am sipping it in December. :)

khamilton611

I had my mom pick this up for me last week…she complained that she had to drive from Greece to Pittsford to get it, but I think she secretly enjoyed doing it. ;)

Veronica

@khailton611 – That was sweet of her! I drive past several grocery stores to get to my Wegman’s. I probably wouldn’t shop there as often as I do, but my daughter is allergic to several foods, and Wegman’s carries a lot of foods that she can eat that other stores don’t.

The fact that the tea aisle is awesome is a draw, too. :)

I love having this tea in my cupboard. It’s so good. There are layers and layers of flavor from stone fruit to malt to tobacco to berries to molasses to floral to salted caramel. It’s a tea I enjoy being able to sip and savor because there’s so much to enjoy inside one little cup. Thankfully it resteeps well because I’ll always want another cup of this.

Another mint tea just because this one is yummy. I think I’m going to steep a second cup and take it with me while I brave the stores and finish my Christmas shopping. Hopefully the mint/vanilla combination will soothe me while I deal with all the crazies. Oy.

I woke up feeling less than stellar, so I’m having the last of my cold brew of this in the hopes that it’ll settle my stomach. It’s mighty handy having a mint tea ready and waiting in the fridge.
