Sipdown

October Sipdown Challenge – a fall spiced tea

Ten years ago I said this puerh smelled almost exclusively of dirt. That’s not a bad thing – I love the smell of freshly plowed fields and even the crawlspace beneath the house. For some reason I said I would be making cold steeped tea but I think I actually had two pouches of this and somehow this one was never consumed.

A neighbor had given me a ziploc bag of unknown(to me) spices and origin a while back and said it was for chai. I could see lots of fennel, some cinnamon chunks, some whole cloves, a few tiny bits of ginger…but no tea. Super! I can add it to whatever I like!

Since our last two mornings have been cool, I was in the mood for a fall spice tea anyway and added some of those spices to this puerh, making a big pot yesterday with multiple steeps, and again this morning.

Ashman enjoyed it and I did as well. There is a little tingle on my tongue but not an unpleasant heat. It is warming and feels comforting and it really dressed up this last bit of this puerh.

The baggie has 1304 written on it. She remembers buying it from a local health food store. This chai spice blend would be something nice to have around in fall for cool (or cold) mornings so I may restock when this bag is gone.

Bio

I am a music teacher, tutor, and former homeschool mom (25 years!) who started drinking loose leaf tea about fifteen years ago! My daughters and I have tea every day, and we are frequently joined by my students or friends for “tea time.” Now my hubby joins us, too. His tastes have evolved from Tetley with milk and sugar to mostly unadorned greens and oolongs.

We have learned so much history, geography, and culture in this journey.

My avatar is a mole in a teacup! Long story…
