Sipdown! (23)

This one was from an old subscription box. From looking at past notes, my guess was April of 2019, but who knows?

I quite like it! I honestly wasn’t expecting much from this tisane, as I don’t think I’ve ever had a lime tea that I really enjoyed. But the lime flavor has such a nice amount of tartness to it – enough to make it taste somewhat authentic but not enough to make it sour. There’s also a pleasant creamy element, just like a lime pie.

I don’t really get crusty notes from the rooibos, but the lime and cream definitely taste similar to key lime pie filling, and that’s enough for me! The rooibos is also fairly restrained, which is nice since it lets the yummy flavors shine.

Will consider ordering this one, just because it’s quite different from my other favorite tisanes… :)

ETA – This isn’t on the website anymore, so I guess it was a limited time blend. Phooey.

Aww, I saw this one on the sale and thought about it, but decided against.

Cameron B.

Aww, sorry I don’t have any more to share!

Dustin

I wonder if this is the same as Lime Chiffon that several different companies have carried. That one was pretty good for a rooibos too.

Cameron B.

It looks very different, and as far as I know B&B doesn’t resell teas, they’re all blended in-house.

tea-sipper

To me, it’s VERY close to Della Terra’s Lime Chiffon but noticeably not exact.

Thanks again for the sample swap, AJ Rimmer! This was the tea that basically started the swap. I really wanted to try it. ALSO, in amazing Bird & Blend news, they have new book blends and one of them is PAN GALACTIC GARGLE BLASTER. Now if only the blend sounded appealing… but it’s mint and and black currant which is just weird. It looks like it has new gold sprinkles though! On to this tea… I love lemon meringue pie but not sure if I’ve had key lime pie? I had some lemon pie ice cream to go with this tea. (Turkey Hill… it’s pretty good!) Honestly, this one tastes like Della Terra’s Chiffon blends to me. Which is great, I love those. But there is possibly more of a lemon peel sort of flavor here that is only noticeable because that seems to be the only difference from the Della Terra Chiffon. Thankfully the rosehips don’t make an appearance in this blend, unless it was that my teaspoon didn’t have rosehips. But it was also missing that biscuity flavor I wanted to find. Both steeps tasted identical. I do like the citrus element with the slight cream. I’m very glad I was able to try it!
Steep #1 // 1 teaspoon for a full mug // 13 minutes after boiling // 2 minute steep
Steep #2 // just boiled // 3 minute steep

This is the freshest smelling lime tea I’ve ever bought. It smells just like lime zest and a little bit of crust as well. It definitely needed some sugar to bring out the flavors. I think this is the first lime tea that I’ve really enjoyed. The rooibos in there probably helps balance out the lime bitterness because this all combines into a tasty lime dessert that lingers in your mouth. I would have liked to see a bit more “pie” in there, but as a lime tea, it’s good.

tea-sipper

Ah man, I should have tried some of this!

AJRimmer

As soon as I put in my order, there were multiple things I regretted not ordering. They have so many enticing teas!

tea-sipper

I just sipped Moondrop Dreams with strawberry shortcake last night and was thinking: I could have ordered this one!

AJRimmer

That one sounds great too!

Martin Bednář

This tea is going to be discontinued :(
But I have some to swap tea-sipper :)

AJRimmer

Oh no! I’m very glad Eton Mess is sticking around, but I wanted to try Mermaid Mist, and I guess I won’t get to now. I probably should have ordered more teas!

tea-sipper

Oh, I just read the e-mail Martin! I didn’t know the other teas would be discontinued FOREVER. hmm. I liked Peach Cobbler and Eton Mess though, so I’m glad those won. (I also didn’t know two would win.) I appreciate the awesome offer of a swap, Martin, but I can’t really mail outside of the US right now. Thanks so much anyway though.

AJRimmer

Don’t worry, tea-sipper, I could definitely do a little swap so you could try the key lime. I got the 50g size, and I don’t really need that much. Just message me if you want to (:

tea-sipper

Oh okay, AJ! I also have some Mermaid Mist I could send for you to try. Though I JUST went to the post office, so it might be a while before I have another chance to go. Could we set something up in a while? Thanks :D

AJRimmer

Oh thank you, that would be perfect! For sure, no rush!

Martin Bednář

I understand, tea-sipper. It is okay, I kind of forgot that prices went up here and kinda can’t too. Maybe sometime it will happen.

tea-sipper

Yeah, US shipping prices are high even within the US. Again, I really appreciate the offer Martin. :D

Sipdown; grandpa strained after few minutes (5+).

Evening here again. More over cold one – just about 15 °C ! Autumn comes quickly apparently. Not a day for shorts and tee, as I was wearing this today. In buildings it is okay, but outside it is chilly.

I used about 4,3 grams (weighed it) of mix, and as I said, prepared grandpa. It is because I could not find any strainer and even more, the mesh is usually not so fine so rooibos came through.

Tea is what I needed! And this one (thanks gonzobot for choosing; it is really a bot ;) ) was great idea. It is nicely refreshing, though it could be more “pie” like. It is not much biscuity. But certainly I notice lime and some kind of creaminess.

Overall good evening tea. Keeping the rating.

That’s a fast cool down! I bet it feels great. My daughter who is in Poland said it has been very hot and they do not have air conditioning. The temperature is over twenty degrees cooler today and she is very relieved.

Martin Bednář

ashmanra – yup, AC is not very common here (for families). Moreover it would be awful on that old buildings we live in :D
