Dew the right thing

In Vietnam, melons are a sign of good luck. In Chinese medicine, they’re said to help cool the body down. Around here, we think they’re just about the tastiest fruit around – especially when you pair them with fresh, delicate white tea. With fruity hints of pineapple and mango, this melon-packed blend is refreshing, juicy and naturally sweet. The best part? This tea was named by our customers! Is there anything they can’t dew?

Day 15 of the 2015 Advent Calendar. Almost through it before the 2016 one! I am a huge fan of fruity white teas because I love to have them iced for my morning classes.

The dry leaf smell is nice, although I’m definitely getting more of a perfume smell than anything like honeydew or white tea. The tea itself I brewed iced, and I think that the flavor is pretty spot-on. It’s very bright and refreshing with a wonderful honeydew flavor. I am hoping that David’s brings this one back for next summer because I really want to get more of it sometime!

The candied fruits are pretty tasty. Unfortunately, they drown out the tea base when it’s all steeped up.

With a cute name like this, how can you not like this tea right off the bat??

This tea smells very sweet and fruity, and has lots of dried fruit: apple, pineapple, melon, and mango pieces. There’s also white tea leaves and rose petals as well.

Once brewed it has a delicious, sweet taste. Definitely fruity with a hint of florals as well. Oddly enough I could taste a watermelon aftertaste that reminded me of Juicy Fruit gum. This didn’t bother me as I love anything watermelon related.

I found this tea to be deliciously sweet but not too sweet. I found it just fine on its own and didn’t feel the need to add in any sugar or honey.

A really lovely honeydew flavor. A soft tea that’s nice to drink. (Still catching up on my 24 days of tea reviews, lol.)

This tea is better then the last tea I reviewed just a minute ago, but highly doubt I will be getting this one again either.

I don’t know…maybe I will change my mind…not in a good mood at the moment.

Really nice, gentle tea with a natural melon flavor. Pretty touchy and oversteeped easily.

This is a great tea whether hot, or iced. I really love honeydew/melon teas. This particular tea has a good honeydew flavour, It has somewhat of a bitter taste to it, but I just add a little agave or sugar to it. I’m not much into white teas, but this was a fave. I’m sad it’s being discontinued.

Bubblegum flavour. I’m detecting some kind of artificial sweetner taste which I noticed is included in the melon pieces used in this blend

Day 15/24 of 24 Days of Tea!

As mentioned before, I am not huge on white teas, but I actually enjoyed this one. Cute name, no artificial flavourings, and I really do taste MELON in this tea (despite there being other fruits!). As mentioned before, So often when teas market themselves as whatever type of fruit it really tastes like apple or other cheaper fruits. I was impressed that this indeed does taste like honeydew melon.

(Dunno if I would purchase it though since it’s nearly $12/50g, but I will have no problem using up the sample!).

I miss the Honeydew Mate! That was practically the same taste (to me, at least), and much cheaper. Granted, this is a white tea, which is sort of different from a mate, but still. :P

I hear you! Not that I’m a big white tea drinker, but if I were to drink white tea, it would be straight or maybe jasmine flavoured. Why spend $10+ for an expensive tea just to mostly get fruity flavours which is usually low cost?

Advent calendar [15/24]

I was super excited to find another flavoured white in my possession this morning. I’m starting to really like these. I must admit I sampled some of the dried pineapple out of the tin. Very nice!

I got out my new cast iron cups and my trusty old cast iron tea pot. It’s nice not having to sip out of the glass bowls we usually use for mise en place before we cook. That’s kind of where my excitement ended. This tea had a beautiful start in the mouth. It was very delicate and floral. The end of the sip was where I had an issue. All of a sudden, that lovely floral sip turned into a mouthful of sweet sugary syrup. The good news is that this endnote of sweetness disappeared after a half hour. When I drank it in my car, it was definitely gone.

I may try some different steeping and temperature parameters. Perhaps I’m just going to prefer a less flavoured white.
