From Simpson & Vail

When we were kids Jim came home from elementary school with some recipes his teacher had given him (perhaps for an upcoming bake sale). I’ll never forget the day our Mom made a batch of Snickerdoodle cookies. They were an instant favorite in our house! The recipe was lost for awhile and we would continually ask Mom for “those lovely cinnamon cookies”. You never saw four happier kids than when she found the recipe again.

If you are a cinnamon lover then this Rooibos blend is for you! When you open the bag, the aroma of cinnamon cookie happily greets you. The brewed cup is amber colored with the taste of fresh baked snickerdoodle cookies. The sweet cinnamon taste lingers deliciously on the tongue.

Ingredients: Organic Green Rooibos, organic cinnamon pieces, sweet blackberry leaf and snickerdoodle flavoring.

I’m really enjoying this tea! Honestly, I think I was expecting another “hot cinnamon candy” style tea, but they actually hit “Snickerdoodle” quite well! The green rooibos base is mellow and unobtrusive, allowing the flavoring of the tea to shine. The tea is very naturally sweet with a strong cinnamon flavor, really bringing out that “cinnamon sugar” flavor. There is also a slight cream cheese aroma to the dry leaf which I wasn’t expecting in the cup, but it is present and really elevates the tea for me! Granted, that does make the flavor lean a little more towards cinnamon buns than Snickerdoodle cookies, but I’m not complaining.

This is really satisfying as a plain, hot cuppa, especially as an evening sweet fix. But this morning I decided to really endulge and prepared it as a hot latte with vanilla almond milk. The sweet cinnamon flavor really works well with the creaminess of the milk, and surprisingly, the almond flavor is also quite pronounced (it tastes a bit like the almond frosting on top of a sugar cookie). The tea is quite mouth-coating as a latte but the lingering aftertaste is a pleasant cinnamon.

A treat in a cup.

Thankfully, S&V doesn’t go too much into the hot cinnamon type of flavor.

One of my absolute favorites, I’ve bought it so many times!

I enjoyed this the first few times I had it, but tonight… ick! My partner wanted a cinnamon-y tea, so I made a pot of this one. But neither of us cares for it. It’s got that stevia-like slippery-sweetness from the blackberry leaf that coats my tongue after each sip, and I’m just finding the overall flavor profile on the cloying side. It’s absolutely cookie-like, but it’s just not hitting the right notes for me tonight!

Homemade Advent Exchange Tea #9

This tea is delicious! I wouldn’t say it tastes like cookie, but the thick, sweet, creamy taste makes me think of cinnamon rice pudding. It’s an excellent dessert tea. I’m astonished at how creamy and vanilla-y this blend is. The tea is so fresh too! The cinnamon doesn’t have that fake sweetener taste that some teas get when they are heavy on the cinnamon bark. I think I just found a new favourite!

Sipdown! (9 | 225)

So I remembered liking this one a lot more than I actually do…

To be fair, the cinnamon flavor is nice, and it does have a buttery cookie quality to it. But the blackberry leaf ruins it for me, it’s very stevia-esque and there’s too much of it. It coats my tongue and makes the whole sip taste cloying. Oh well, happy that the bag is empty now.

I actually just got a big haul from Simpson & Vail, with several tins of favorites (my first time buying tins!) and also a bunch of new-to-me teas to try. Lots of fall teas! I’m setting them aside for now, because I know I’ll need to work extra hard on sipdowns this month since I’ll be on vacation for two weeks starting next Saturday…

Kelmishka Homemade Advent Day 24! This may be my favorite S&V tea. I have a whole bag of it on my shelf now, and I’m always happy to have a cup of this one! The baked cinnamon flavor is so great. It’s so desserty and cookie-like. I enjoy it sweetened at room temperature. The resteep is excellent as well.

Additional notes: I’ve been drinking many S&V essentials lately. This is another one. However blackberry leaves can taste like a snickerdoodle cookie is still a mystery, but it is a MUCH better option that sweetening it with fake sugars.
I just want to take another moment to say how much I appreciate Steepster, even just the tea resource aspect of it. Nowhere else can you type in ‘snickerdoodle’ and see snickerdoodle teas. It’s been an amazing way to crowdsource opinions on which teas I should buy or stay away from. Not to mention the community around here. I really want Steepster to stick around.

Yeah. Although it is not perfect, sometimes there are stuff which is not working, or not working properly, Steepster has unique vibe and tea database with wide variety of teas.
