1184 Tasting Notes
This is probably the tea (tisane) that initiated my love for tea. I remember going into DAVIDsTEA for the first time and the SA told me that this was one of the most popular blends. I wasn’t really sure what to do with it since I had never made loose leaf tea before. I also bought a perfect mug and spoon at the same time.
To be honest, I was sceptical. How good could this be? And how could there be a whole shop dedicated to tea? I didn’t get it. I tried this tea and was instantly in love. The rest is history…lol.
Anyway, tasting this tonight after I haven’t had this tea for 4 YEARS (can that be correct??) brought back those memories for me.
This tisane isn’t quite up to the 100 rating that I had originally gave it. It is good, and I still enjoy the apple pie crust taste with the slightly sweet almond and tartness feom the apples/beets. I forgot that it was pink and brewed it up in my green perfect mug, silly me. Now I don’t even get to enjoy the pink colour!
Flavors: Almond, Apple
Preparation
I really enjoyed this one today. Honey oat bread comes to mind when I drink this tea. Stone fruit was also a fairly prominent note. I didn’t really get the salted caramel notes. The eucalyptus showed up for me more in the second and third steeps.
Resteeped at 5&8 minutes per the websites’ recommendations.
Why does it default to 1tsp when you enter in 1.5?
Flavors: Bread, Honey, Stonefruit
Preparation
Not too bad. I find nutty to be the most prominent note tonight. I am not crazy for banana in tea but it’s ok for an evening caffeine free cuppa. I remembered from experience to use a tea bag so it doesn’t make a mess.
I am keeping my previous rating the same.
Preparation
We are celebrating Christmas today with the in laws today, so we shared a pot of this tea. I have always enjoyed this tea and I really enjoy mint teas during the holidays. It is fairly sweet and a little artificial, but hey so are candy canes! That is what this tea is going for isn’t it? The black was fairly lost in all the flavouring which is pretty typical for DAVIDsTEA. I prefer straight teas or natural flavourings these days but I still like to have sweet treats as well.
I am also lowering the rating from 95 to reflect my evolving tastes.
Preparation
Wow, this tea! It is a very comforting cuppa. The vanilla is very smooth and pure. I get a sweetness that lingers, which is a likeness toward the cherry notes. The cocoa notes develop slowly and almost “roll” onto my tongue.
I feel like this tea has a lot of layers.
Resteeped for 5 and 8 minutes per the website recommendations. The third steep was starting to lose that wonderful vanilla, but it was still delicious
Flavors: Cherry, Cocoa, Vanilla
Preparation
This is a very good for me to ease into the world of pu’erh. I am still developing a taste for the earthiness and fermentation. The cocoa nib adds body and depth to this tea without overwhelming the pu’erh taste. I don’t know much yet about this kind of tea, but to me, the base would likely be a little sweet on its own.
I resteeped this for 5 and 10 minutes per the websites recommendations and both steeps were just as delicious.
Preparation
I had never tried a yellow tea before, so I thought I would give it a whirl. I am not usually the biggest fan of straight green tea, but I am developing a liking for it. This is similar to green tea without the bitterness that green tea can have sometimes. It is still fairly vegetal, buttery, and nutty.
I resteeped for 1,1.5,2 minutes. The vegetal notes seemed to turn creamier throughout the resteeps.
Preparation
This is a bonus tea for me. It accidentally arrived in my package instead of the pina colada honeybush. I emailed Anne right away and she said she would mail me the pina colada and I could keep this one! So thank you 52teas for the excellent customer service!
So anyway this tea— I find it to more of a vanilla black than “donut”, but there are some subtle “baked goods” notes. I think I would have to add some sweetener for it to really pop out as a donut to me. But what the heck, I really enjoy vanilla so this tea is just fine for me! The base is really nice too.
Preparation
Thank you for the sample Garret. I probably would not have picked this out for myself. So thank you for expanding my horizons! The world of unflavoured pu’erh is still pretty new to me but I am starting to see why it’s such a big hit. After drinking it, I almost feel a little detoxed (if that’s a word!). I ate too many Christmas cookies yesterday. I feel like unflavoured pu’erh is a bit of an acquired taste at first. But then, once you get into it, it can be enjoyable. But maybe that’s just me and my sweet tooth talking.
Anyway, this tea was very dark brewed up. I wasn’t sure what parameters to use so I just winged it. I gave a quick 10 second rinse to start off. It is earthy with slightly sweet cherry notes. I am not sure what other notes there was because I was too tired to pay attention. I will hold off on a numerical rating until next time, when I will pay more attention to the tasting notes.
I steeped this all day, I am not even sure how many times…6 for sure. This tea holds up excellent to steep all day and could have steeped many more times after I was done with it.
