44 Tasting Notes

Assam Medley from Adagio Teas
78

Bought this as a Christmas gift for JP. He made it himself with “too much tea not enough water” and thought it was far too strong.

Fast forward a week with me making at at the listed prep specs, low and behold he liked it! It has nice sweet notes and is a pretty mellow Assam.

Timolino from Teaware
81

Let me explain something. I am really clumsy. I have two delicate tumblers for when I want to feel elegant, and two stainless tumblers because I’m also a realist. This is my favourite of the two. Why?

I’ve dropped this sucker a number of times and not had to worry about it shattering or denting: it has one scratch on it roughly the size of a pinhead and I take this everywhere.

Like a lot of silicone seals, mine will try to leak if I’ve overfilled the bottle past the ring. It has kept hot tea hot for around 4-6 hours and ice tea iced for around the same time (sometimes there are even little bits of ice clinking around later).

PerfecTea by Teavana from Teaware
75

I’m just as happy with this guy, who I got as a gift several years ago, as I am with the cousins that I use at work every day.

Simple and easy to use; when it gets dirty I just soak the plastic in vinegar and hot water.

Goji Pop from DAVIDsTEA
64

Some of the batches of Goji Pop taste almost bitter when steeped for the suggested time and temperature. I know each spoonful is a little different, and it’s a favourite of quite a few of my friends. I like to have it on hand. :)

Weight To Go! from Teavana
72

The name makes me laugh with that terrible pun, but actually I quite like it.

Has a nice subtle fruit note and makes a great iced tea.

Tropicalia from DAVIDsTEA
79

Good gracious. This is higher on the “things I dislike” list than most, containing both pineapple and coconut, but it’s so good!

Very fruity, very creamy. Great iced and hot, good with honey or your choice of alcoholic mixer (mine is white tequila).

Yellow Dragon from DAVIDsTEA
73

A great tea for when you’re feeling a little bit down or sick. Peppermint helps with sinuses and chest, lemon oil and caffeine help to refresh.

Chocolate Cake from DAVIDsTEA
73

Tried this first as a latte with lightly sweetened soy. Gah. s still excellent. Add milk for richness, careful with your sweetening.

Ice Cream Cake from DAVIDsTEA
68

I’ve started noticing when you show all three Cake Teas to a customer, they hold onto one longer than the others. This one is not my favourite – it has an odd smell, but I do like the taste. It’s very smooth and rich.

Not a tea you need to sweeten.

Zingiber Ginger Coconut from Teavana
70
Gold Rush (organic) from DAVIDsTEA
90

I can’t get enough of this when it’s around.

It’s sweet, creamy and somehow NOT completely overpowering. It has a subtle smell and leaves your mouth feeling clean (somewhat more like a citrus tea).

I take mine with milk and honey. <3

Fantasy Island from DAVIDsTEA
73

Not naturally a fan of coconut, I gave this a shot after some other staff members recommended it. Delish!

It’s creamy and not too sweet, although has usual oily surface side-effect of coconut teas which can be a little strange.

Hot Lips (organic) from DAVIDsTEA
88

Thank the sweet lord this is out and now I can talk about it.

It went from strange new tea to Top 10. Easily.

If you like Cinnamon Heart, you will like this (although you’ll get less of a kick from the caffeine, as this is a green), and if you like actual cinnamon hearts OR Hot Lips (for my American viewers, they’re like cinnamon hearts except gummi and lip-shaped) you will like this.

Spicy! Good for what ails you, if you need help with chest or sinus issues.

Add a bit of agave and it’s like eating a damn candy.

Goji Pop from DAVIDsTEA
64

Along with Bear Trap, one of the best iced. Ever. Just. Ever.

All the fruits!

Green Seduction from DAVIDsTEA
66

This is a nice naturally sweet tea to start the day with.

Zingiber Ginger Coconut from Teavana
70

This was good with whiskey and honey to salve a chest cough and sore throat.

Cacao Mint Black from Teavana
73
Kanpe Tea from DAVIDsTEA
67

It’s a nice tea. I don’t mind the taste of hibiscus, and for a while was drinking straight hibiscus tea. It’s lovely iced, although I was a bit hamfisted with the agave. I couldn’t shake the cinnamon smell – each time I took a sip, it smelled intensely of cinnamon but didn’t taste spicy at all. It confused me.

I made a tumbler full of this as something to have on my bus ride into the US. I needed something without caffeine, and a couple friends had recommended it, so who was I to argue?

Some Velvet Morning from DAVIDsTEA
62

It was a fairly nice tea to detox with, especially since I can’t find any stinkin’ Detox.

Had it iced with a little agave. Not my favourite of the greens, but not unpleasant.

Pumpkin Chai from DAVIDsTEA
83

Sad to use the last of my egg nog today, happy that it was in a Pumpkin Chai latte. ♥

Mother's Little Helper + Orange Blossom (blend) from Custom - DAVIDsTEA
79

Needed something to lull me into sleep after roughly a day of consciousness and 6 hours of border-crossing Greyhound-taking stupidity.

Mother’s Little Helper, with its lovely Valerian content, is meant to help relax muscles and aid in the sleep cycle. The chamomile is meant to soothe. The Orange Blossom adds vanilla and a touch of sweetness to the overall flavour. Brews to a deep golden yellow. Tastes very strongly of orange and lemongrass, with hints of mint.

I might keep this blend in my cupboard after all.

Egyptian Chamomile (organic) from DAVIDsTEA
63

Not much to say. It’s a nice, sweet chamomile, for those who like that sort of thing.

Great added to a bath with some essential oils. Very relaxing soak.

Honeybush Vanilla + Peppermint (blend) from Teavana
76

Last night I had the worst stomachache. I was curled up in a ball and grumbling. Asking for a mint-filled suggestion (my stomach turned at the idea of ginger, which I typically like), my friend Maria suggested this blend she has.

It smells delicious, just like peppermint and vanilla, nothing else. It’s a fairly sweet tea on its own, but more importantly it’s a smooth drink. The combo of muted vanilla and peppermint settled my stomach and made for a relaxing couple of hours.

David's Organic Breakfast from DAVIDsTEA
70

Delicious blend. Plain and simple. A good way to introduce new people to a familiar taste in tea that isn’t bagged.

I can both smell and taste the Assam, which I love. :)

Profile

Bio

I’ll be upfront, I did work retail and inventory for one of the tea chains. I’ve been a lover of loose leaf for three or four years, but I’ve barely begun to learn all the nuances of the tea world.

A lover of citrus, fruit, and spice.
