First Sip Thought: “Chocolate dream!”

Smell: First scent I noticed was…….ALL OF THEM! This tea is very well balanced with flavours. The vanilla, chocolate/cocoa, and mint were instant upon opening the packaging and even during steep. A sweet and tantalizing aroma to enjoy.

Taste: The tea itself looks beautiful with the chocolate pieces, cocoa beans, etc. It’s a chocolate lover’s dream! I love chocolate and I love mint. When you put those together you have the best flavour in the world….unless it’s not done right. Luckily, The Persimmon Tree nailed it with this tea. I’m someone who loves steeping mint tea into my hot chocolate because I just need that combination of goodness. I feel as if I no longer have to do that because this tea is even better than that. This tea is much more creamier, and well balanced. It’s very decadent that you really do feel like you’re indulging in some sort of dessert. If you decide to try this blend, I would suggest you give it a try as a tea latte too. Overall it is a very smooth, refreshing and quite energizing Rooibos dessert tea.

First Sip Thought: “Down to Earth.”

Smell: The smell is strong and malted. It’s probably one of my favourite fragrances I’ve smelled in a while. It’s almost like I was burning an incense. Hmmm..maybe I should use this tea for tea meditation? ;)

Taste: Before I tasted the tea, I was kind of caught off guard and distracted with the little boat they sent with the teas. Every purchase comes with a little cork sail boat made from half of a bottle cork and a paper sail like in my Instagram photo above. After it is steeped, you are left with a lovely reddish brown colour. I’ve been calling it my “down to earth” tea because of all the rich, earthy flavours I am experiencing. I kind of notice hints of sweetness coming from a caramel or honey taste. I particularly enjoyed this blend because of the surprise flavours I am left with through each sip. The flavours are slightly smokey (which I’m not too crazy about, but glad it’s not over bearing!). You can especially notice that in the after taste. It’s a great tea to try out, and you can play with the packaging. What’s not to love!

First Sip Thought: “Sweet energy booster.”

Smell: The scent at one point smelled citrus-y, either way it was instantly flavourful aroma.

Taste: After steep, it was a beautiful gold colour liquid. Surprisingly, the sips were all filled with hints of sweetness. When drinking this puerh you can immediately recognize how healthy it is and how good it feels. Good tea matters! I drank this tea straight. It’s not bitter at all, therefore it did not need any additives (ie. sugar, milk). The after taste is rather difficult to describe. Try it and you’ll understand what I mean. The closest thing I could possibly try and describe it as is black licorice. Overall, if you’re looking for a great pick me up/energy boost this is definitely a good go-to tea.

First Sip Thought: “Warm, cozy and spicy!”

Smell: The fragrant is beyond amazing. I did not expect anything less though coming from a Chai tea and after I read the ingredients. I was glad to not be disappointed. It’s a well balanced blend of each spice included.

Taste: I have not had a chai in a long time and the moment I took my first sip from this cup I was instantly hooked and started regretting not making an entire pot for myself! This Desi Masala Chai has a burst of so many spicy flavours! It’s the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. It’s a great pick me up for an early morning day as it’s bold taste surely perked me up. It’s never an overpowering taste of a certain spice which I love a lot because in the past, some chai teas for me were way too cinnamon-y. I made this tea with sugar and warmed up milk which made it even more heavenly and definitely so creamy! I would recommend this tea to anyone, especially for a cold wintery morning when you just want to stay in bed all day and not go out there. This tea is like a motivator in a cup. Go for it!

First Sip Thought: “More than just cinnamon.”

Smell: Not a huge fan of the scent because when I first opened the package I was inhaling so much cinnamon! After it was steeped, the cinnamon scent was still overpowering the rest of the spices that were included in the blend.

Taste: I won’t lie…I tried a sample of this tea simply because Oprah had it on her favourite things for 2013 and I wasn’t too disappointed with the taste as I was with the smell. The last time I had a tea from Teavana was back in the summer and it was iced so it’s been awhile since I’ve really sat down and focus on all the flavours and scents from a blend of theirs. I was worried at first that it may be a bit overwhelming with cinnamon but I found this to be quite rich with each spice and so peppy. Thus, surprise, surprise – there really is more than just cinnamon in this tea! My other disappointment however was finding out that artificial flavouring has been used. It’s kind of outrageous considering what they state their goal to live by is. I can’t say I’m too surprised as I know it has become evident in most of their teas lately but it’s definitely not something I look for in teas and especially one that is being sold as high quality for $13 for 2oz. I’m glad I only got a sample from a friend and will not be purchasing more unless the artificial flavouring is removed.

First Sip Thought: “Ahhh…awakening my senses!”

Smell: A bright, and quite peppery scent at first. As it steeped, I felt the scent becoming much soother.

Taste: Keep in mind, I have not tried other lotus teas before this one. Thus, my thoughts will be very different from anyone who has because I won’t be comparing. I dove into this tea with no thoughts in my mind so I was surprised a lot with the flavours that were appearing in my mouth. As my first sip thought state, it was definitely very strong but not in a bad way. The first sip took my mind away to a flower bed where I started trimming bushes and planting flowers of all sorts. Very floral, but very welcoming. However, the taste started to get softer with each sips and I started getting hints of maybe a vanilla grassy taste that lingered until I saw the bottom of my teacup. This may be a tea I would have an interesting relationship with. I’ve read other reviews that it was much more enjoyable cold, so I will try that next time. I will also be infusing this for a second time to get a softer, yet creamy taste from it.

First Sip Thought: “Hello Spring”

Smell: Inhale the aroma and you will be in heaven. I find the smell to be light but the marigold petals are definitely made evident.

Taste: A best seller indeed. I’ve slowly become a frequent oolong drinker and this one can easily be on my list of favourites. Like the scent, the taste is subtle with a hint of sweetness. I was very impressed that it was not bitter at all. I was a bit confused why it was called “cream” until I took a sip and noticed a lingering taste of natural vanilla. The vanilla flavour is a nice touch and compliments the citrus well. The lemon myrtle and marigold petals instantly make me think of spring time (which could come sooner rather than later!) Overall, this tea is quite delicious and I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a flavourful, yet smooth flavoured oolong tea.

First Sip Thought: “Fruitcake!”

Smell: I find it to be a dry smell at first, but such a gorgeous colour. When I say gorgeous, I really really really truly mean it.

Taste: Right from the beginning, it’s a fruity treat that I’m not quite sure how to put. I’m never too big on fruity teas but this is one I would not want to be without. The strongest flavour I get from each sip are the cranberries and raspberries. However, throughout the first steep it’s a very long lasting taste that is quite crisp. My first sip thought doesn’t necessarily mean it tastes like a fruitcake, but it was the first word out of my mouth that basically means “holy moly..fruity goodness everywhere!” Give it a try, and you will not be disappointed.

First Sip Thought: “Did I steep it enough?”

Smell: A lovely, powerful scent. The first thing that I notice is the vanilla bean hints, following the white chocolate. Also, the tea leaves were stunning. I was very happy to see that they were fuller than the usual sample packs I get.

Taste: To explain my first sip thought, this blend is creamy and smooth but light. Yet the flavour still lingered on my tongue. After it steeped, the bright yellow colour in my teacup was incredible. I would say this tea has the perfect balance of vanilla bean and white chocolate. It goes really well together. Its scent is much stronger than the actual taste but it still left me wanting to make another cup and that I did!
