From California Tea House

Big Red Robe is the artisan Oolong of California Tea House’s Oolong collection. It is the finest grade of Chinese Oolong anywhere, hand picked for perfect color modeling and complexion. If you are familiar with Oolong, once you have tried Big Red Robe, we are convinced you will recognize the difference in quality, taste and aroma to any other. Our Big Red Robe Oolong is so rich, it can be infused (or steeped) a handful of times. Like having wine from different levels of the same barrel, each new cup reveals a new layer of this tea’s complexity. Some of our customers have said they believe the 3rd round of infusion on the same leaves bring out the best flavor.

This is the woodiest oolong I have had in a long, long time. Maybe I over steeped??? I will try this again. It’s ok but I’m not convinced it’s an award winner in my book…yet…that could change, however…I will try it again. For now…it’s just OK.

Cofftea

This tea is beautiful, refined, exotic and complex, not to mention very tasty. The huge, black, wiry leaves produce an amber cup that fills the air with its smell. The aroma is woody, chocolately, fruity, and toasty. Huge dark leaves are uniform and visually striking.

This is a hearty Oolong. I am a big fan of Oolong and a friend told me about Big Red Robe. I can’t wait for my next cup. I have to say, this really has my attention. It’s delicious. I’ve never had a tea that left me feeling like I had breakfast! This is like a Brunello Montalcino. I say start your day with Big Red Robe and end your day with Brunello and you’ve had a great day!

Steeped 3 min 195 degree water no additives.
This is a steak dinner of a tea. Very dark almost black tea on the fermentation scale but it retains the toasty mellow taste of oolong.
Personally I preferred the second infusion as the flavor was as round as the first but some of the density of it was diluted.
Then again I also prefer the oolong towards the pouchong end of the scale.
It is definitely an awesome tea.

I do not drink oolong often, and then I taste an oolong like this and wonder why I don’t drink it more! This has such a smooth taste to it, it is a delightful brew.
