Golden Monkey Paw

Black Tea by California Tea House

Golden Monkey Paw is a black tea made from the very young leaves and bud of new season growth. It originates from the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian Province, China. With the same careful process as White Monkey Paw green tea, the tea leaves are hand picked with an artistic process to preserve the tea leaf form and then delicately steamed and dried. The leaves are then allowed a fermentation process which brings out the beautiful black and gold colors. These perfect, prized tea leaves in our California Tea House collection resemble a monkey’s paw, hence the name.

Wow, this is much better than the previous tea I drank. It is mildly robust. I wanted the flavor to be a little more complex where maybe I could taste various layers but I instead I got a well balanced cup. Not a bad thing, I enjoyed it.

After trying their Silver Needle I had to try Golden Monkey Paw too. Now I have no doubt why it gets good reviews on here.
This is a full bodied tea, and I detect a mild malty flavor. I had this yesterday morning before work and really enjoyed it so I had another cup when I got home and I’m sure I will be finishing this bag fairly quickly.

Wow, no wonder this one does so well on steepster! I love serving this one to house guests and hearing them say “… Whoa. That’s really good! What tea is this?” Such wonderful depth and smokiness. No edge, no astringency, just dark velvety richness. I suggest buying as much of this as you can—it’s good at any time when you in pretty much any mood. Bravo, California Tea House!

Some mornings a good pure (not blended) black tea is just the right thing to start off the day!

I’ve been drinking Rooibos only lately, but I guess it was time for a change as the weather got a little cooler and my mood changed with it. I have to say, “I’m glad I did!” This tea makes a delicious cup – very full and a very slightly malty aftertaste that makes me always feel like I need another cup.

A friend of mine told me if I like premium tea and am already a fan of California Tea House then I’m really missing out if I have not tried their Golden Monkey Paw and Yunnan Golden Buds. So, like any other person who can’t turn down a good recommendation, here I am drinking my first cup of Golden Monkey Paw, and I have to tell my buddy Dave, “Dang! You are right!”
This tea is so perfectly clean, full rounded and just simply delicious. I guess I have to buy the Yunnan now.

This was an excellent cup. It has a very smooth taste with hints of earth and roses. With a bit of milk and sugar it tastes almost like hot cocoa. This one will probably make my permanent on hand list. If you like black teas, you’ll probably love this one. Highly recommended.

I’m glad I bought this tea – it is a great keemun and I am enjoying it even though I don’t love black tea normally =D

I’ve been drinking Golden Monkey Paw for about a year now and so far it’s my absolute favorite tea. I’m branching out and trying new teas, but this one has set the bar high.

The aroma smells very clean and pure right out of the bag. Its got a solid taste to it and I like drinking my black teas straight with no sweeteners, and this tea really hits the spot. It tastes really healthy. I steep no more than 2 minutes with 1 teaspoon per cup. I havent tried it iced yet, but if I do I might add a little lemon wedge.

This is unlike any other black tea I have had. It’s very complex and yet very smooth. I just had a cup at a friend’s tea party. I need to get some of my own.

Probably the best and very simple black tea I’ve ever had. I tried a second cup with cream just for fun, and it was good, but I think the first cup was best. I went back to California Tea House and they were out. I hope they get more soon!

I usually drink Oolong tea and an occassional flavored black. I tried this straight black not expecting to like it, but wow, I’m a believer! This is really good and has a full, complex flavor range for a black tea.

My first time having a golden monkey tea. It’s definitely not what I expected – very different from any other black tea I’ve had. It almost has a sort of grassy flavor to it, but it’s very sweet. Interesting. Haven’t totally made up my mind on this one yet, but I like it.

Just got this a few days ago so this is the first tasting of it. I enjoy golden teas (yunnans, assams, etc.) so this one sounded like it would fit in. It’s a golden Fujian province tea which goes through a process that renders the beautiful gold and black colors. The aroma of the leaf has a fairly strong strain of chocolate. It is picked from young new leaf and buds so it is a tender thin leaf size, but still reasonably lengthy. I brewed for 3 minutes and only added sweetener. It has a deep golden color and the aroma of which is more like a golden yunnan. The flavor for me has chocolate notes mixed with sweet potato/yam notes… it’s smooth with little astringency. It’s tasty and good tea. I enjoyed it.

I’m sipping this tea today and also had it yesterday morning. This tea is really good. Being from the Fujian province of China, It’s not a Yunnan golden tea but has similarities. It’s a golden monkey that is very smooth and delicious. The aroma of the dry leaf is as chocolatey as I’ve ever found in any natural tea. It carries through into the brew as well. The caramel and chocolate notes present along with some fruity notes and maybe some honey notes make this tea really pleasurable. I highly recommend it!
