Red Mellow Bush Rooibos

Rooibos Tea by Numi Organic Tea

Grown in the high desert regions of the Cederberg Mountains, the shoots of Rooibos have been hand gathered by South Africans for generations. It is prepared like a traditional tea, undergoing meticulous drying (oxidation) and cutting. Organic Red Mellow Bush has an earthy vanilla taste and pleasing orange color with hints of autumn straw. With an anti-oxidant level comparable to green tea, Rooibos has no caffeine, is rich in minerals, very low in tannin, and is relaxing to the nerves. No wonder they call it the miracle tea. Discover the wonders of Rooibos!

I received a sample bag from Numi for being a bit of a fan. There’s really not much to report about it other than the fact that it’s rooibos. But – as far as rooibos goes – it is a good one, even for a bagged variety. I tried to steep it for only six minutes, but I forgot I had it there. So…fifteen minutes later, it still tasted good. Nut-sweet, kinda light. Needs something more, but what can you ask of the poor li’l legume?

Without additional flavoring or blending, I don’t think there’s anything anybody can do to plain ol’ rooibos to improve or degrade it … it is what it is. Pleasant and rooty.

1 bag for 250mL, bare.

Watching tea or tisane steep in my dear old clear glass mug is great pleasure for me. Red rooibos is especially pretty to watch.

The initial scent of Numi’s Red Mellow Bush is that nuttiness some red rooibos has — and sunshine. I mean that exceptionally clean scent of sunshine — laundry dried on a clothesline, conifers in summer, sparkling rocks … that sunshine. No mint and no wood. The taste is a little dull, but i think that’s due to the relatively stingy teabag portion and not the leaves themselves. Rooibos needs a good 5 minutes to start developing its flavour, in my experience. I rarely take my rooibos leaves out of the cup before finishing the tisane.

Like Numi’s Bushmen’s Brew Honeybush, this is very competent. It’s a red rooibos I wouldn’t hesitate to give a first-time sipper. A good example of good rooibos.

I have spiced rooibos, cranberry rooibos, pumpkin cream rooibos… this one little teabag is the ONLY plain rooibos currently in my possession.

This seems like a decent quality, plain rooibos. Not earth-shattering, but certainly not bad. Does have natural hints of vanilla and orange (it’s all rooibos – no additives). It is naturally slightly sweet, but I think a touch of honey or agave would really give it dimension. I had it hot and cold and liked it both ways. Would consider buying, but I prefer Stash’s Red/White Fusion.

I’d been wanting to try a plain rooibos so I could have a frame of reference when evaluating rooibos blends. This is actually pretty tasty on its own. Sweet, with honey and vanilla notes, and a tea-like flavor that is smooth and slightly toasty. I would probably pick a tea over this on most occasions for the flavor, but could see being in the mood for rooibos on its own every once in a while, or substituting it for tea to avoid caffeine if I’m overloaded (the couple of decaf teas I’ve tried haven’t been very good; I don’t like decaf coffee either).

I have been wanting to try this tea since I have made the switch from coffee. I blended this tea with fresh mint and found it very interesting. I agree it has a sweet flavor, however, a touch of honey makes it just wonderful.

I LOVE this tea! It is my favorite so far. I always drink a cup before I go to bed and it relaxes me to the max. I make it with a little bit of honey and the combined flavors create such a delicious and soothing taste. It always makes me feel so calm and want to sleep. It reminds me of a sweet black tea with strong flavors but its not and its decaffeinated so drink it to calm your nerves. I recommend it to anyone!

I love rooibos. This one is delicious. A smooth silky flavor.

I’m drinking this tea as I type and I’m liking the mellowness. I have a feeling that I’ll prefer it with some vanilla soy milk, due to the fact that the vanilla flavor is very, very faint…it’s more of a straw"ish" note in my opinion, which I don’t mind. All in all I’m gonna drink this throughout the week and see whether I grow to adore it.

Meh. Normally I love rooibos, but I find this one utterly nondescript. Where is your flavour, Red Mellow Bush? Also, LOL @ the name, because I never matured past the age of 12.

Well, as soon as I poured the water on this one I knew there had to be some vanilla flavoring in there, because for whatever reason, teas with vanilla always seem to stink during brewing. At least to me. However, they usually taste pretty darn good, and this was no exception. I liked this tea as well as I’ve liked other red teas. Quite nice when you want an herbal with a little more flavor.

Received a box of this as a gift — I normally can’t stand the rooty flavor of rooibos, but this one was quite tolerable with a dollop of honey. It may be too weak for an actual rooibos fan, though.

I need to buy some more of this! I have specific rooibos cravings because the flavor is so unique. It’s not too sweet, so it’s a great break from all the fruity teas I have in my stash.

This was the first rooibos I tried. I really like it and so do my co-workers now.

It was good and very mellow on the flavor, good for a once in awhile. I’ll give it a thumbs up.

I think I’ll stick to loose rooibos… this one tastes too much like cardboard to me.

Blended this iced with Rishi Blueberry Rooibos, Adagio Pi Lo Chun, Mighty Leaf Organic Spring Jasmine, Numi Rooibos. I definitely added this to use up the last bag I had since it doesn’t taste good alone IMO.

Consistently one of my favorites. I found it in an NYC hotel room a few years ago and have enjoyed it ever since.

I was on the verge of ‘neutral’ rating on this one but it’s a tad better than neutral so I gave it a thumbs up but barely. Not that it’s bad just not wonderful. It does remind me a little bit of the African Autumn by Harney & Sons tho…or reminiscent of. The pre-steep aroma had me thinking I wouldn’t care for it…it smelled to sweet for me but it mellowed quite a bit after steeping. The color is a nice reddish brown. The taste is a little sweet and a little Rooibos but on the light side…almost like it’s missing something or needs to be stronger. I did over steep so it’s not that I didn’t give it enough time…got this in a sample pack so I don’t think I will be buying large quantities of it anytime soon.

I steeped for 6 minutes. It’s not a very strong rooibos. It doesn’t have the rich flavor that so many do.

Earthy vanilla flavor. No sugar (I don’t really like the taste in this kind of thing). I might have steeped it a bit long, but it tastes good.
