Ancient Moonlight White

White Tea by Rishi Tea

Moonlight White (Yue Guang Bai) has a unique flavor and infusion unlike any other white tea with flavors of ripe melon and sweet honeysuckle flowers. Harvested in small batches each spring. Moonlight White is a rare type of white tea made with two leaves and a bud from Yunnan’s Da Yeh tea tree varietal.

Found another excellent one! Didn’t buy enough at once! :(

Moonlight White. Mmmmmm… It’s a very nectary white tea. Subtle hints of honey and ripe yellow fruits like apricot. This one I highly recommend for the white tea obsessee!!!
And as always the best comes from Yunnan. (Unless we’re talking green teas… Japan all the way!)

Big thanks to QuiltGuppy for sending me this lovely tea!! I’d been saving it for a special occasion and I don’t know why but today felt right.
It’s very light and refreshing. I think I can taste some of the melon but I’d never be able to pinpoint that on my own. It’s a solid white tea that I look forward to having again.
One thing that puzzles me is that at one point it tasted a tad bleachy, but that quickly disappeared as the cup cooled. I know melon can give me a chemical-ish impression, as does papaya (even more so)…. so perhaps that was why? Hmm.
Anyhow, I really enjoyed this one- esp when it was hot!!

EDIT: Ohhhh my goodness, the second steep was a totally different experience!!!! not so great when hot, but deeeeelicious and delicate and round and fruity and oh oh so good when warm but not yet cool. I am bumping the rating! I wonder what the third steep holds? :)

To use a TeaEqualsBliss phrase: these leaves are flew-fee! Flooo-feeee! (Oh yes, that is fun) :D I also have to add that I generally don’t care to see the leaves as they steep. But this one? It was amazing to stick them in the fridge the night before and then look in the morning. Very leafy leaves! It must be said: LEAF JUICE!!!!!

With this tea I’ve come to the realization that I really enjoy uber-subtle iced teas. I’ve had some aggressive iced teas lately and having one yesterday and now this one today I know that for me gentle is the way to go. This is fantastic iced. Just a hint of nectary sweetness – almost melon-ey. I’ve never really had a white tea like this before. NOM! TG

Cold-brewed this overnight, and it turned out pretty well. Teas like this are why I bought a glass waterbottle; it’s delicate enough to be overwhelmed by plastic or aluminum.sweet and refreshing, though- a good tea for a summer morning.

This tea also has the most gorgeous leaves I’ve ever seen, wet or dry: green, and maroon, and sparkly from the “silver” hairs on the needles.

Sweet, real strong notes of caramel, clover honey, some fruit and light floral notes as well.

This is a good classic white tea, in that it is subtle and sweet. Personally I don’t care for hot white tea, I usually take it cold because the sweet taste usually comes through strong.

First cold brewed tea of the year. I always prefer my white tea cold rather than hot. This particular tea retains it’s sweet taste cold or hot. But cold there seems to be a sort of melon flavor, as opposed to hot which is somewhat nectar/honey flavored.

Made a pitcher and finished this off. Personally, I find white tea better iced than hot and this tea is no exception.

I like this tea – very clean white tea, pale yellow with a very light scent. Slight taste of melon, but not overpowering. I prepared this by heating my water to 175 degrees and steeping it about 4 1/2 minutes.

Pretty good tea, love the subtle taste of the melon, very complementary with white tea. Doesn’t leave one’s mouth dry!

Given a sample by a friend, this one rated very comparably to a Bai Mu Dan from my local chinatown teashop, Wing Hop Fung. Nice stuff.

Light and fragrant. This is a pretty mellow white tea.
