Citron Sonata Green Tea

Green Tea by Teavana

A composition of fresh green tea and Rooibos are instrumental in this lemon and orange citrus symphony. Sing with a heavenly aria of tea with every sip! Excellent hot or iced, this tea is an excellent source of antioxidants and Vitamin C.

Health Benefits of Citron Sonata Green Tea

This green tea is very high in antioxidants, including EGCG. The added fruits and Rooibos offer vitamins and minerals, particularly Vitamin C, and may help reduce allergies. Studies show green tea may help to boost the immune system, inhibit certain cancers, regulate blood sugar, lower cholesterol, sooth the stomach and digestive system, and promote healthy skin, teeth and bones. This tea contains 5-10% of the caffeine in a cup of coffee.

How to Prepare

Use 1 teaspoon of tea per 8oz of water. Heat water to 175 degrees and steep for up to 2 minutes.

Ingredients: Green tea, Rooibos tea, candied Papaya bits, apple pieces, carrot bits, raisins, lemongrass, lemon bits, orange peels and orange blossoms.

Made a big pitcher of this iced last night using a concentrated hot brew and adding 1/2 water/ice cubes to make up the rest of the mix. I really am enjoying this iced. May have to purchase again next summer, as I have enough teas I enjoy iced to last a year. I was worried that this tea lost flavor, as I had a cup hot last night and it wasn’t very flavorful. It really is shining through with bright citrus flavor (orange/lemongrassy) in this iced blend. Added a bit of sweetner for the iced blend. It’s making a great post workout drink!

Experience buying from Teavana http://steepster.com/places/2895-teavana-st-louis-missouri

Date of Purchase/Age of Leaf: Purchased at their 2010 end of year sale at a discount, and brewed up during all of 2011.

Appearance and aroma of dry leaf: Lots of little colorful bits of fruit and flavorings; strong citrus aroma.

Brewing guidelines: Glass Bodum pot with metal infuser/plunger. Stevia added.

……….2nd: 175; 1.5’
……….3rd: 180; 2’
……….4th: 185; 2.5’

Aroma of tea liquor: Citrus-y!

Flavor of tea liquor: light and citrus-y.

Appearance and aroma of wet leaf: Since this is a blended tea, I never really looked that closely at the base tea in it.

Blends well with: I have blended this with many an unflavored green tea with much success.

Value: They don’t sell this anymore, but I think it was about $3.50/oz, and we got some for 50% off, then later more at 75% off. It is worth it at either discounted price.

Overall: I like just about everything about this tea: its appearance, its aroma, its flavor. Interestingly enough after about 9 months (even while doing my best to safeguard the tea from heat, light and moisture by keeping it in one of their tins), the tea liquor started to have a kind of stale taste to it (maybe a better description is, it started to taste, flat). After brewing it at least once on its own when I first bought it, I used it frequently to flavor many of my other unflavored green teas. This is a tea I consider to be amongst the better flavored green teas.

This was in a tea swap I got from my Tea Group in town, from someone who isn’t fond of fruity teas. I have to say, though, that it definitely found a a good home with me this morning during breakfast. This one was smelled lovely at the first breath in, citrus and beautiful. I love the green and citrus flavor of this, and I back up my roommates vote that this should be stocked forever in my house.

Keep trying this one but it just doesn’t seem to be growing on me. I’ve tried steeping with a few other teas with improves it somewhat. I can’t even put my finger on why I’m not liking this.

I have mixed feelings on this one. I love the aroma of the tea but the taste is off-putting. I think the tea is stale or something, because even if I brew it at 2 mins, the strong taste of smoky lemongrass comes through. There’s not a lot of citrus flavor. I’m tempted to try again, but not from Teavana. Can anyone recommend another brand to try?

My first tea and maybe my favorite. This has turned into my afternoon blend about an hour after lunch. Nice and relaxing. Tip Top Tea.

Rockin the Sonata again this afternoon. I noticed as I get to the bottom of my current supply of Citron Sonata, that the leaves are getting much smaller, almost particle like. It seems like maybe the tea at the bottom was damaged by the leaves piled on top of it all this time. Anyone else see this? Am I off my rocker?

Went with the Citron Sonata and Youthberry blend this afternoon…but ICED. It was my first iced tea adventure and I wasn’t impressed. The ice watered down the tea and it didn’t have nearly the flavor that the hot version did. Very likely I need to steep longer when doing iced tea, but still I feel I would be loosing flavor.

2 tsp Citron Sonata with 1 tsp Youtberry & Wild Orange Blossom

Starting a new blend with Youthberry…my final assessment….Youthberry works with anything. This however is my favorite blend so far!!! The liquor is a great light orange color and the taste? Amazing. I have always been a fan of Citron Sonata straight up, but it had a slightly tart after taste. The Youthberry smooths that right out!

Give this a shot.

Easily my favorite green tea. Very earthy, with a nice citrus flavor. Great summer tea, haven’t tried it iced yet, but I’m sure it’s delicious.

Got this tea as a recommendation from a friend when I said “I like fruit teas”.

Not exactly what I was expecting, honestly. I tend to drift more towards a white or black than a green. Nice smell, a bit tart for my tastes. This is pretty excellent if you have a cold, though. Makes you feel overall better and relaxed.

WOW…in my early tasting days, this is hands down the BEST I’ve had.

The smell is incredible, like a fresh fruit display on the street…the taste isn’t too citrus but gives enough flavor to make you completely forget it’s a green. Yet, you totally get that wonderful, wholesome feeling that green gives you.

I can see why if you started with this, as several I know did, you’d be hooked on tea.

Mixed in some Body & Mind from Teavana and it’s getting me through to the weekend on a rainy day…pick me up indeed

This is a pleasant brew. The citrus really emerges. I had a very small sample and did not have enough to try this on ice. I agree that it might make an excellent iced tea. There’s a touch of astringency here even though I steeped it for only one minute and 30 seconds.

Not my favorite but I do enjoy it now and again. It’s a summer flavor and really great iced.

I wasn’t sure if I would like this at first sip but upon repeated sips, it has definitely grown on me. The spice aromas lend this tea to fall and cool temperatures.
