drank Cacao by Tisano

CHOCOLATE OVERLOAD

This tisane is made of cacao shell, making for dark chocolate strong tea. It reinfuses well too. It is pretty strong, potent dark chocolate on its own. I find it does magic adding some to my other teas. I’ve even added it to grandpa style and gongfu teas – Milk oolong + Tisano chocolate tea is amazeballz.

drank Cinnamon Cookie Puer by Lupicia

Sip down! Seriously, I drank this entire 50g trying to figure out the best way to steep it and never found it. I tried even cutting it with chocolate teas and vanilla beans.

I’ll just deduct this tea sucks. It’s got a bitter burnt coffee vibe, mineraly, yet not very cinnamon or cookie like. It was fishy the first 25g too. Hard pass.

drank Oriental Beauty by Tillerman Tea
1271 tasting notes

This is the Summer 2016 Oriental Beauty.

This OB tastes very competition style. It is sweet, light, and very floral. The floral and oxidation buzzes together to a peachy like flavor. Later infusions get woodsy, sweet orange, and a bit dry in texture. I got 8 infusions.

Not much info on this tea besides it being a 7 colored leaf green. I got this in the Hawaii collection set from Lupicia in Honolulu.

Admittedly, this tea is old. The leaf is pretty with a mix of cornflowers, red flowers, rose petals, and yellow curly things. Steeping, it smells like licorice. The flavor is a big mix of floral, sharp grassy sencha, sugary candy, and mystery fruit. Papaya?

drank Red Peony by Floating Leaves Tea
1271 tasting notes

Well I owned a total of 10oz of this tea. It is good!

It is a ruby 18 processed into a bai mu dan white. It is pretty bombproof, malty, and heavy, yet juicy melon, floral, and honey sweet like a white tea. I find it shines best in an aged white seasoned clay pot or grandpa style. Grandpa style tends to make the refreshing notes of ruby 18 pop a bit more.

drank 2016 Tuhao as F*ck by white2tea
1271 tasting notes

This review is from drinking a cake sample. This puer is a fragrance bomb. It is bright, citrus, sweet, amber, grassy, vegetal at first, then a sweet mineral, pavement, buttery, vegetal finish.

I feel this be a good puer, in its current young state, for an oolong drinker. It’s got that fragrance that you just don’t get in many puer, but what oolongs tend to have.

In comparison to the same priced 2016 We Go High, Tuhao is more approachable as it is less bitter. It is totally for an oolong drinker and a great tea to try if you are new to shengs that are expensive or hate bitterness. You more pro, want epic tea drunk, and got that young sheng gut for bitter – We Go High is a better match for $149 cake.

Great texture on this jing mai sheng – I got nice creamy feels. The flavor notes are sweet vegetal, cream, buttery, wet stones mineral, tobacco, and raisin with a floral fragrance. I also boiled this sheng, so you likely can get sweeter if you played with it. Just a light amount of bitterness, but overall easy to drink and flexible to steep.

Yea I definitely would like to try a sample off a big cake to compare with the little coins. The coins certainly seemed a bit more chopped to me.

drank 2016 B_ D_ by white2tea

This little cake is bitttttttter and dry! Underleaf it a bit and flash steep it for awhile. It is a complex tea – wet stones, vegetal, leafy with a heavy pudding texture and big aftertaste fragrance. Drank BD after a month of rest, will need to revisit in a year or two.

drank 2016 We Go High by white2tea

This tea will get you rekt.

The flavor is potent, even in early steeps. Strong vegetal flavor and a good amount of bitterness (think young bulang) and dryness. There is some floral, stone fruit, and buttery flavors. Boiling temperature got some excellent thick texture.

But really, unless you like bitter sheng, you are drinking this to get completely blasted and forget all your worries.

Oh…I should have added that sample to the cart. Luckily, I have a Mangfei with similar affects reserved for those darker days.

This is the same as their house 2010 Bingdao Shou 200g cake, but in a smaller and cheaper waffle brick form.

Really good shou – super clean, sweet, date, dark chocolate, walnut, mineral, all with a really heavy thick texture. This shou still has a bit of green in the leaf too! However, this is a pretty expensive shou, it was $26 CND for this 75gram waffle brick.

I was raised on floral oolongs and green teas, mostly “beauty” teas. Early on as a kid, I can guzzle an entire pot of tea (or two) at a Chinese or Japanese restaurant.
These days I like adventurous and interesting tea blends. I’m fearless in trying new teas! I’m into oolong, pu’erh, white, green, black, guayusa, mate and herbals. I’m not into red rooibos but I keep buying it anyway.

The tea brand that got me started into loose leaf teas was DAVIDsTea. I used to live in Vancouver Canada and had access to their shop, however that is now limited since I moved to southern California.

However, the perks of living in the US is ultra cheap, fast shipping! Since then, my tea stash insanely expanded.

Other stuff I’m into that sneaks into my tea notes: Brazilian jiu-jitsu, metal music, drawing, painting, cooking, photography and nail polish.

BTW, my Steepster cupboard is not even close to accurate and I track my teas on a spreadsheet. Last update 573 Teas – August 2015.
