NYC Coffee and Tea Festival - March 21 & 22, 2015

It’s almost festival time! Who’s going? Any interest in a Steepster meetup?
I’m a little disappointed that gift bags are only for VIP ticketholders this year…

I will be going. I didn’t get the VIP ticket but already have my ticket. I thought about a VIP ticket but knew I didn’t want to get up at 6am to be there. I think a Steepster meetup is a great idea.

I am going on Saturday.

Why would you need to get up at 6? Isn’t VIP @ 10? Last year I had VIP but didn’t make it due to sleeping in. I went on Sunday so it was a bit more chill.

I’m not going this year. I preferred it being held nearer to Grand Central. The subway/walking route from Grand Central to that center in Brooklyn looks complicated (not exaggerating).

The G is one of the worst subway lines. I plan to take the L to Bedford. The expo center is an easy walk from there. I accidentally passed it a few months ago while visiting Bellocq and Matcha Bar.

So what you’re saying is that Bellocq and Matcha Bar are nearby and this is the perfect excuse to check them out…

Indeed it is! Puerh Brooklyn also just opened up :)

Puerh Brooklyn ? I should stay away lol

I’m wondering about parking in the area? There is a store called Puerh Brooklyn? I would love to visit that.

There is on site parking but you’d better get there early if you plan to use it. I haven’t checked Puerh Brooklyn out myself yet but this is their website:

I’ll be there on Saturday. Kiwi, I’m sure you could handle the trip to Brooklyn :) It’s really not that bad.

The time threshold in which I buy my tickets has passed. I’ll be saving money anyway. And keeping my stash low. If it’s in Brooklyn next year I…might go. It’s just entering and exiting the subway twice each way and spending ten dollars on subway fare that’s kept me away.

I liked the walking!

Yeah I’m a bit worried about the impact this will have on my stash. The subway transfer should be free though!

I live in Brooklyn but getting there will be more difficult than to Manhattan with all the transfers.

I’m coming from DC and staying in a place about 2 blocks from the expo center. I went last year and it’s fun to extend my stay a bit and do some shopping and eating. I love Brooklyn, though my friend arriving at the bus station is just going to uber the 15 minutes to Greenpoint. I plan to go Saturday and I’ll be going to the VIP hr.

Those of us not nearby need a proxy who will do our buying for us :)

You got some great shots. I totally failed at taking pictures, haha. The crowds are just too overwhelming. Nice meeting you at Joe’s class!

Great pics! It was a bit hard to get pics midday Saturday due to the crowds. They moved to the Brooklyn expo because it was supposed to be bigger but it looked about the same

That looks great! Glad the link finally worked! :)

It was nice meeting you Nicole;). Thanks, taking pics really distracted me from buying more tea. I still managed but not as bad as last year .

boychik said

Thank you hapatite ;). It was crowded but I was like “excuse me,can I take a pic” ? ! Worked all the time. I had a mission of sharing pics on Steepster !

Tealizzy, don’t know what I would do without you ;). Thank you for saving my time <3

These photos are so great! I wonder if Sunday was less crowded than Saturday. When I went on Saturday (around 11:30am to 2pm), the crowds got so bad I literally couldn’t move at times – it really was a madhouse. But that’s what I get, I guess, for going on the cheap – half price general admission tix, because I had never been to this event before, and wasn’t sure about spending more money on something that may not have been that great. I definitely learned a bit about puerh tea, and made a few, small purchases – I was being careful not to be too spendy, since I’m in between gigs right now. I thought the vendors were friendly and full of information. I was surprised at the number of non-tea and non-coffee booths that were there, but all in all I thought it was fun. I wish there was more teaware/gear, and I ended up skipping all the vendors I was already familiar with, but I would do it again – I just would do the VIP hour so that I wouldn’t have to put up with as much crowding, and maybe sign up for a seminar. That would have been a much different experience. I would love to hear everyone’s take on the event, but I understand if you want to save that for a post if you have a blog. Otherwise, would love to compare notes!

Thank you Sakura Sushi. I’m cheap too. I wanted to get VIP ticket too since last year was overcrowded and exhausting experience. But I also attended Joseph Wesley seminar. So it adds up. the presentation was fantastic. I realized that I know nothing. . It’s great to see a vendor who is so knowledgable and passionate about tea. And generous sharing very expensive Jin Jun Mei. I would suggest to attend seminars if anyone planning to go next year . One disadvatage of Sunday is some sellers ran out samples and teas. If I had a choice I would do 2days. But hubby wouldn’t be happy
