139 Tasting Notes
I wanted something special today. Chose this one, and it’s one of the best oolongs that I have had—if not the best.
I steeped it a little lighter this time. It’s a bit fruity and nutty with roasted vegetables at the forefront. I think this is the first dong ding that I have had.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!:)
Made this strange blend for my sister yesterday. I put in LPT’s Laoshan Chocolate Genmaicha, WP’s Elder Grove, and a little of YS’s Mojiang Imperial Golden Bud black tea. Last night it was fair, and I had quite a bit left over so I stuck it in the fridge. I’m drinking it cold this morning and it’s actually really good. Tastes like a cinnamony chocolate with a bit of the elderberry coming through. I bet it’s tons of fun being a professional tea blender. I will be content for now as an amateur. :P
Flavors: Chocolate, Cinnamon
Has anyone else had this lately? I acquired 20 grams of this in a swap (thanks curlygc!), and this is tasting a lot different than when I last had it even 3-4 months ago. I am using more leaf and finally got a gaiwan, which I’m using for this session.
It tastes much more medicinal, bitter, mentholy, and green versus the light hay taste. Can sheng change that much in a few months? I’m very much a beginner when it comes to drinking pu-erh.
Yeah it can, the difference in humidity can make a change, also people rest tea for a week or so after travel.
I don’t know much about how this directly affects flavours, apart from my dry room reduces storage funk taste, but also I think it flattens some sheng after about 6 months. I’m getting a pumidor sometime
Thanks for the info! My skills could definitely affect the taste—I don’t follow exact parameters. A pumidor sounds awesome!:)
Enjoying these pearls a lot right now. It’s been a few months since I had any jasmine teas. I remember the first experience with jasmine pearls that I had was a sampler pack I got from Mandala. It was magical watching the pearls open up, and today I’m trying to appreciate that beauty.
I bought a pound of really potent Numi jasmine green tea about a year ago, but it has lost its scent, so it smells like a weird green. I’ll try it sometime though.
These pearls have lost a lot of the scent too, which I actually prefer right now, as the jasmine can be overpowering. Overall, really enjoyable right now.
Finishing this off. Sad to see it go, but excited to see what other awesome creations Andrew comes up with. This one has really “hit the spot” every time that I’ve had it.
I steeped this longer to get more of the coffee in there. Thankfully the Jin Xuan didn’t become bitter with the longer steeps. Nice roasty, greens flavor in this one.
Flavors: Green, Roasted, Spinach
I was curious about this one, and Andrew kindly gave me a pouch. Thanks, Andrew! :)
I’ve only had one TGY before this, and I like this one a bit more. I like the lemon in this. Part of me wishes there were more. I’m on my first set of steeps, and if I really desire more lemon, I’ll add some lemon juice to it. I do get some of the roast in here, but it’s not overpowering.
Thanks again for this, Andrew!
I’m back drinking tea after 7 days off—I had a kidney stone. Though I do wonder if tea would have helped flushed it out faster.
Anyways, I’ve been wondering what this blend tastes like for a while, and finally decided to purchase some with my last order. I’ll be the first to say I’m not a fan of ripe pu, but this wet leaf smells rather fantastic and…it tastes good too!
Lots of flavors going on. First two that come out to me are vanilla and nuts. A bit chocolately and some raisin notes are there too. 2nd round of steeps reminded me a lot of LP’s Swann’s Way. I did notice that there was some of the sunmoon lake black tea in it.
For throwing lots of left over tea together, this was good. :)
